The song is from the Powerslave album which has an Egyptian theme. The symbols your seeing are just stage art from that album. On the Powerslave tour, the entire stage was one huge Egyptian themed tome. I’ve seen almost every tour since Piece of Mind; Bruce is very high energy live. They always deliver live.
Whenever I listen to Iron Maiden songs that Paul diano and blaze written I need to watch the live versions with Bruce because Bruce is Iron Maiden no one else sounds right to be honest
As a bass player, the stamina of Steve Harris is incredible, he is a bass god. Steve uses some of the heaviest gauge strings on the market, which tune to a high tension and take a lot of strength to play. He really drives this song with his triplets. Just as impressive as Bruce.
he's also the main author of their lyrics. If Dickinson is no doubt the most powerful interpreter and frontman, conveying their message, SH is the spirit behind everything.
My English teacher in high school used this when she taught epic poetry. We had to read and interpret the lyrics then we moved on to the actual poem. It helped me understand it so much better

Me and my friend didn't realize the song was based on a poem when we were in high school, we surprised our English teacher when we already knew the poem when he started teaching it. We showed him the song and he was so impressed that he started playing the song in all his classes after they read the poem.
This was taken from the Somewhere Back in Time tour. It was a 'history' tour that meant only playing songs from 80s albums (most notably Powerslave, Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son). As Powerslave was a song based in Egypt and the album had Egyptian iconography all over it, the eye is just part of the decoration. The song Powerslave mentions the Eye of Horus so I assume that's what it's meant to be.
This was perhaps the most amazing Maiden song I ever saw live, and I saw it three times on Powerslave's World Slavery Tour. The dry ice was bellowing fog with a huge triangle prop that lowered above the stage and swayed back and forth to the snippets of Coleridge...Bruce nailing every word to the bow of the ship
I was at the '86 Powerslave show in Lakeland, Florida. I was 17. I remember every single moment of that show. Can still feel the power of it. I've played in 100s of shows, and seen 100s of concerts. This is the only one I remember every single second. If that sais anything about a Maiden show.
Saw it live in 89 on the somewhere in time tour from the 2nd row at Providence Civic center it was so hot and crowded I was going to pass out but the fog saved me😅 caught a guitar pick and a drumstick at the end still one of if the best concerts I've ever been too
Bruce has more energy than people in their 20s. He bounced all over the stage when I saw Iron Maiden live. I am going to see them again in October of this year in NYC. I cannot wait!
Hell yeah man, Seen em live 5 times with more to come. The best show you'll ever see. Hands down my favorite song by maiden. Hopefully I'll see em do it live one day, it's a bucket list for me
My favorite part is watching Ken's looks of amusement, astonishment, and sheer awe at what Bruce is doing. There is a reason that Maiden still has fans after over 40 years in the business. Incredible musicians
Saw them in NJ about 10 years ago. He is a kid off his Ritalin onstage the entire show! A nickname of his is something to the effect of the opera singer of metal! He lost almost nothing vocally to the tongue cancer treatment he underwent years ago. He's awesome as is the rest of the band. Thanks for the great r&a!
Agreed, but check out the live performance of Ayreon "Into the Electric Castle" a few years back... tongue-in-cheek storytelling and top notch metal/prog musicians.
I love your Iron Maiden reactions! You truly have the joy of a Maiden fan! 🌷 Bruce is not as active as he was 10 years ago obviously but he still is more active on stage than performers 20 and 30 years younger than him. The energy in their shows is always amazing!
The 'eye' you pointed out on stage is an ancient Egyptian symbol. It could be either the Eye of Ra, which in the simplest way to explain it represents power! Or it could be the Eye of Horus, in which case, once again in the simplest way to explain it, is a symbol of protection. Either way, they used it on and off since their album Powerslave which featured Egyptian themes.

Bruce does infact run around the whole show live, costume changes and working the crowd. Also the whole band is into ancient themes which is why they have runes and hieroglyphics all over the place
Yes. I started going to their shows in the mid 80's and every show, every tour, is the same effort that you've seen on these videos so far. This sustained effort for decades is impressive and so much fun.

Greetings and Love from Köln/Cologne, Germany. The Wadjet (or Ujat, meaning “Whole One”) is a powerful symbol of protection in ancient Egypt also known as the “Eye of Horus” and the “all seeing eye”. The symbol was frequently used in jewellery made of gold, silver, lapis, wood, porcelain, and carnelian, to ensure the safety and health of the bearer and provide wisdom and prosperity. However, it was also known as the “Eye of Ra”, a powerful destructive force linked with the fierce heat of the sun which was described as the “Daughter of Ra“. The “eye” was personified as the goddess Wadjet and associated with a number of other gods and goddesses (notably Hathor, Bast, Sekhmet, Tefnut, Nekhbet and Mut
I've seen Maiden three times, back in the day when they were in their prime. Front row and third row for two of those shows. Hands down the best and most elaborate stage setups and pyrotechnics of any band I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. The giant Eddie's were always a sight to behold. As for the Eye of Ra, I don't think it has anything to do with the Illuminati, it's a throwback to their Powerslave album, which used Egyptian themed artwork, and the title track was also in that vein. Thanks for the awesome reaction bro, always love your analysis!
The eye of Ra is attached to the album’s title, power of slave, a lot of egyptians draws on,the rime of the ancient mariner is one of the song of this album
Thanks for another very cool reaction. If you want to be impressed by Bruce's ridiculous vocal chords, I HIGHLY suggest The Talisman (En Vivo) He hits higher and longer extended notes on that song. Spoiler alert: the song is so hard to sing live, that even Bruce doesn't move from the spot
I went to this tour back in May of 2008 in Irvine, CA. It was such a treat to the fans that Maiden played 'Rime Of The Ancient Maiden' since they had not since the mid 80's. I have seen Maiden more than 10 times and each time is better than the last. I will tell you this when I bought this on vinyl when it was released I nearly ruined my record on the first day because when I heard this song and the part (18:49 point of this video) my 14 year old ears were blown away. I picked up the needle and moved it back at least 10 times nearly scratching it up every time I dropped the needle on to the record. "Up the IRONS!" \m/\m/

This song is off the Powerslave album. This is not the concert in regards to the album. The Powerslave tour was named ..The World Slavery Tour.. this tour is 2002 New Jersey. This tour incorporates several different album tours. The symbol you refer too is indeed The Eye of Horus.
The Somewhere Back in Time Tour has songs from the albums Powerslave & Somewhere in Time albums & the cover art for the Powerslave album the song is from is Pharaonic themed. the eye you asked about is "the eye of horus", about the theme song (and album name) "Powerslave"

The set has hyroglyphs also & then the back canves looks like the bowels of a sailing ship for the song. The song is based on the poem of the same name by English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
