Let me tell you a story. There’s a path above the highway at my airport where people could walk to the terminal. At the end of the path, there’s a gap bewteen the path and terminal sidewalk. To save a couple of seconds (or to look cool), a teenager jumped across the gap. Instead of landing on the sidewalk, he plummeted four stories and splattered right next to me. On the concrete. Screaming. Crying. He died before an ambulance came. TAKE YOUR LIFE SERIOUSLY!

There was a kid in the grade below me in high school who lost his life doing something similar. Instead of subway surfing, he tried skitching (where you grab on to the side of a moving vehicle while you either stand on top of a skateboard, roller skates, or those sneakers with the wheel built into the heel, and go for a ride).
He lost his balance, was sucked underneath the car, and was run over. Everyone in his grade was devastated, and made T-shirts with his face emblazoned on the front as a memorial of sorts. It was definitely a tragedy, but even it's more tragic that he lost his life trying to get a cheap thrill.
As a piece of advice for anyone thinking about pulling such a dangerous stunt like skitching or subway surfing: getting a cheap thrill or recognition on social media (especially TikTok or Instagram) is not worth throwing away life and limb. There are safer ways of getting thrills or recognition.

Good thing a newly board passed doctor was around and a nurse at that time (they didn't know or work with each other as I remembered on the news). They were able to perform first aid. The people also helped get the arm after the train passed cause the doctor had mentioned when she saw the wound, how the arm could still be re-attached if they could get to the hospital on time. There’s nothing different about the kids today than about us when we were kids. The difference is the instant and perpetual accessibility to stupidity. When us older kids who didn’t do things _this_ stupid were young, most of us didn’t do them because we weren’t exposed to other kids who were this stupid. The internet opens that up to the whole world, and now where one idiot can ruin a few lives around them, today, one idiot can ruin millions of lives around the world doing the same exact thing that idiots have done since the dawn of the human species.
The thing that we haven’t learned culturally (including most adults, to be completely frank) is that “the internet” including social media or other sites that allow general public interaction, are the bad kids our parents warned us about and would keep us away from. Except in our day, there were maybe two or three of those idiots within our whole social world, and there was always a chance they didn’t want to be friends with you. Today, there are millions of those kids, and every single kid alive has access to 100% of those idiots.
And don’t think that the same thing isn’t happening across the adult world, too. It is. It just takes a different form. Hardly any of us has _truly_ learned and internalized the lesson that what you find on the internet shouldn’t _ever_ be taken at face value or trusted without independent corroboration and validation. This is why the world is becoming so stupid and depraved today. It’s the lessons that the vast majority of adults (and all kids by the nature of being kids) have not yet learned. Culturally, we are almost all still very immature individuals. It’s hidden more among adults because adults have been around enough and are old enough that the social circles we’ve cultivated for ourselves have been largely functional and socialized enculturated not to be so overtly stupid. But underneath the machinations of all of our intellectual short cuts, we are almost all still just as stupid as this poor kid was.

I don't. I feel worse for the thousands of people that he inconvenienced. Thousands of folks on their way to their jobs or job interviews... doctors' appointments, hospital visits, picking up their children from school. We all know that blaming the subway is no excuse even under these circumstances. Someone might have lost a shot at a much needed day job because of him. Someone might have had a scared kid waiting for mom on the 1st day of school. Someone (god forbid) might have had a terminally ill loved one in a hospital they missed out on seeing. F--k the kid. His quest for a personal thrill might have cost a struggling single mom her livelihood and ability to feed her innocent kids.

Saw an 12 year old got shot in the back of the head by a 14 year old relative, then the 14 year old either killed herself afterwards with the gun or misused of the gun and accidentally fatally shooting herself.
The 12 year old boy was playing with a extended mag handgun for their Instagram account for quite awhile due to the amount of post before the tragic incident happened, and yet no one stopped or notice that boy for having a live fucking gun?!
