    Great video. 👍 I have 2 little fry in my tank now that look JUST like yours in this video. I assumed they were zebra danio fry (who haven’t developed the stripes yet) because that’s the only breed of fish with male and female in my tank who could be the parents. BUT, I do have one silver female mollie. But there’s no male mollie in the tank. And never has been. The fry are about 4-6 weeks old. I’m baffled as to what kind of fry they are!! LOL

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How long have you had the molly for? They could have been pregnant at the store. I've also read (but definitely fact check this) that molly females can carry eggs and sperm for a while but not fertilize if the temperature is not right. I guess in summary if you have had the molly for say under 3 months there is a chance it could be her fry. Over that probably unlikely. I'd love to hear back in a few months once they grow a bit!

    hello! thank you so much for making this video. I just had my first fry this morning when i woke up! I am new to molly keeping.... like 1 week and what I thought was a balloon molly was apparently a pregnant one, lol! Could you possibly recommend another gel food? the link you have in the description is no longer valid unfortunately.

    When I first got my mollies, I didn't know that 2 of them were pregnant! So one morning I was surprised to see black frys all over the tank (most of them hiding under the rocks) and the next day I saw another set of yellow frys! I kept them in an isolation box, but when I saw your video, I was thinking of releasing them, since an isolation box would be too small for them. Is it safe to do it, or will they get eaten by the adult mollies?

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a similar experience to when I got my Mollies haha. My experience was that most were eaten but a handful survived to be adults. If you have a bunch of plants and decorations a lot more will survive without keeping them in an isolation box

    hi my balloon molly gave birth and 4 survived-I don't have another fish tank so I put them in a see through plastic container for the time being, what do I do with the temperature n air flow for the baby fish? I thought I'd close the container and let it float in the tank? for a month n then let them in the tank with the others, is that okay?

    My Frys are not growing At a good rate some suggestion? Rn they are in a small tub

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always felt mine grew slow when compared to the rate I found listed on forums and such. So there may not be anything wrong. For tips to increase speed it would be to put them in a larger container/tank (10 gallons would be best for growth), feed them twice a day, ensure they are able to eat the food you give them (I prefer Repashy gel food), and more frequent water changes. I know only some of those changes might be possible right now so do whichever are realistic right now.

    Nice video! :) I have gold dust mollies and the first one I bought ended up being female and gave birth a week later. Unfortunately only 5 of the babies survived but theyre doing great so far :) although if you have any advice on how to tell if and when my gold dust mollies will give birth, that would be great!

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for checking out the video! I'm glad some survived and I hope they continue to grow up. It is definitely a fun experience. The females get a larger and larger stomach as they become close to giving birth. Although from my experience they show this even a week or two out before giving birth but it does give you some time to prepare.

      @@TheAquaticCoder Thank you for the response! :) I guess what I'm asking is, is there anything I need to look for to be certain that they are about to give birth? 🤔 I'm just not sure when I need to separate them from other fish. When i got my first female, she really didn't look that big to me then she had only 10 fry. Thanks in advance! ☺

  • @paksallion
    @paksallion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've separated the parents in a cage in tank but I still have about 10 cardinal / silvertip tetras free with the molly fry. Would they be safe? How long would you recommend before I re-introduce the parents, I feel bad putting them aside lol thanks buddy

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they should be pretty safe with those tetras. Especially if you can keep them well fed. How long will depend on how large the parents are. I get not wanting to keep them in a prison though, but they should try to not be cannibals lol. If you wanted to be 100% sure as many survive as possible then probably 2 months apart. But I think after 3-4 weeks most will make it, especially if you can have some easy to hide in plants like java moss, guppy grass, or hornwort.

    We don’t have an isolation tank only a breed box and our girl is like about 6 or 10 days away from babies

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I might be responding to late so I apologize for that. You have a few options.
      1. You could put the female in the breeder box before she has babies and remove her right after. The con is it might not be a good idea to stress her out right before she gives birth.
      2. Keep an eye on the tank each day for when she does give birth. Once she does try to round up as many fry into the breeder box. If you keep the rest of the fish well fed up until then they shouldn't eat too many on the first day.
      I'd go with #2 personally but its up to you.

    My mollies gave birth, and one was a lyretail, and one was a dalmatian. Will they be mixed or something? Its been about a month and a half and they have grown to a bottle cap

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's cool that you bred different types together as well. That growth seems about on pace with mine. Many forums I read report faster growth but that was probably with optimal feeding, water changes, etc.
      As far as color my experience is that it was a mix. I bred a Black with a Silver molly. Most of them ended up being a mix that turned tan/brown with black spots throughout the body. This was probably 70% of the mollies. The other 30% were split between being fully Silver, fully Black, and a few that turned out to look like beautiful Dalmation mollies. About 3 months after they were born I was really able to see their adult colors.
