Dr. Robert Svoboda is the first Westerner ever to graduate from a college of Ayurveda and be licensed to practice Ayurveda in India. During and after his formal Ayurvedic training he was tutored in Ayurveda, Yoga, Jyotish, Tantra and other forms of classical Indian lore by his mentor, the Aghori Vimalananda. He is the author of over a dozen books and has served as Adjunct Faculty at the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, NM, and at Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA.

I will certainly check them out. But the books that I can say truly changed my life was the Aghora trilogy; I can honestly say that God led me to these books and that reading about Aghori Master "Vimalananda" CHANGED MY LIFE. It truly was the most astounding experience I have ever had, and I became a devotee of Lord Shiva as a result. Oh and "The Greatness Of Saturn" too. I can't begin to describe the effects these books have had on me; it would sound like fantasy fiction if I were to write about it!

(00:00) Namaste, I'm Dr. Robert. And today on 5ish minutes with Dr. Robert, my subject is books that I recommend. Now, honestly, I'd recommend all kinds of books, but for 5ish minutes, I've come up with six books that I really want to recommend. Book number one is "I, Lalla," which are the poems of a very wonderful, Kashmiri mystic poet named Lal Dêd, and it's she's quite unique and you will enjoy reading that.
(00:36) Book number two is in a similar vein, the Dnyaneshwari technically called the Bhavartra Deepika, but it's Dnyaneshwar Dnyaneshwar Maharaja's commentary on the Bhagavad Gita. And it is a wonderful commentary, not only because it is so focused on bhakti, but because you can also learn how to awaken your kundalini just by reading it.
(00:58) That doesn't mean it will happen, but it does mean you can learn how to do it. Number three is a book called "Kinship with All Life" written about 70 years ago by J. Alan Boone. And it talks all about how human beings can interact with and meaningfully communicate with all kinds of different species and how all life really is communicating.
(01:22) With one another all the time. Number four, "The Guns of August." I really like Barbara Tuchman. I believe that's how you pronounce her name. She's written quite a number of excellent books on history, but this one shows just how almost inevitable World War I was. Once certain events in August of 1914 happened and everyone started to behave in a way that forced the events that eventually turned into World War I.
(01:59) It's an excellent analysis and really a dramatic example of how humans with the best of intentions often end up with the worst of results. Book number five is called "The Wonder That Was India" by Professor A. L. Basham, who I was fortunate enough to meet about 45 years ago and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
(02:24) Professor Basham was a professor at the Australian National University, and though this book is also quite old and some of the conclusions may be not as valid as they were in the past, it's really an excellent description of, the many ways in which Indian culture flourished during the classical age.
(02:47) And the sixth book, is one that I have just completed and it's called "An Immense World" by Ed Young. Ed, for a different book, won a Pulitzer Prize. He's an excellent writer and this is all about how absolutely mind boggling are the senses that animals have and humans have and, how all of these different perceptions of the worlds, the technical term that they use is the umwelt, the, world environment of different species, how dramatically they're different even though we're all, are living in the same world.

I have one book by Lalla Ded, The Ascent of the Self. And of course I learned about Gyaneshwari from you n have collected it. Yet to read it. Currently I'm reading Tapobhumi Narmada a series of eight books that covered both north n south venture by a Bengali elevated Self Shailendra Narayan Ghoshal Shastri. Unfortunately it's only in Bengali n Hindi. 🙏🌻

Jnaneshwari is translated by many- can you please tell the translator for the version you recommended?
Mr Robert I would like to tell you the saint who has written Gyaneshwari - by saint gyaneshwar has taken birth again to liberate people in this current time, named as Shri Shivkrupanand Swami. His ashrams are spread all over the world. I myself am a disciple for many years and have had life changing experiences.
