Man who drove off fishing pier matches missing persons report, Virginia Beach Police confirm

- We now know more information about the driver who drove off the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier just over a week ago. On Tuesday, Feb. 6, police confirmed the person who recovered from the ocean with the car that drove off the pier was a 57-year-old white man from Virginia Beach. Although the public doesn’t know much about this person, I’m not sure a memorial is the correct way to go here. We don’t want to encourage (for lack of a better word) others to do this. Also, what about all of the innocent people and children who may have drowned in that area of the ocean? Shouldn’t all of them get memorials too?
Oh. No. That’s not something to give a permanent memorial to.
I live in Va Beach, The only people freaking out are the boardwalk walkers which is only a few out of the entire city of 400,000-- and the MEDIA. Slow news around here. Move on, thats what the family wants

a memorial for what a man that wanted to kill himself.. What a terrible example to show kids visiting the pier.and a theme they don t need to take as a memory from visiting the pier.
It would be to bring forth more talk of Mental Health Issues in Men.
A memorial to honor a suicide doesn't seem to make much sense to me.

I lived in Virginia Beach for 17 years. It’s a wildly depressing, empty, materialistic ball of drugs and government money. I see how someone from there could be driven to such extremes. I encourage all to move away from there unless you’re military.

No ! No memorial !! I doubt the family would want that nor should anyone else. You don't promote suicide. Let him rest,let the family grieve. He had a reason for doing what he did and knew the outcome. It's sad in so many ways it came to this. Leave him alone !!
