Are the NC properties sold free & clear of any mortgages that the previous owner may have had on the property? Say the foreclosed owner owed a bank $150k and you purchase the property at auction, do you then owe the bank the money?
In North Carolina, upset bids don’t need to prove an error in the initial sale. The upset bid process allows someone to submit a higher bid during a 10-day period after the auction. The new bid must be at least 5% higher than the previous bid or a minimum of $750. This process can happen multiple times until no new upset bids are made within the 10-day window

Depends on how you set it up, if you do buy any assets before, make sure they are not in your name

Yes they are. The tax lien is a “superior” lien and knocks out any mortgages owed.
