Check your county tax collector’s website or treasurer’s office. They usually post upcoming auction dates and locations. Some counties also host auctions online through platforms like RealAuction or Bid4Assets, so you can bid from anywhere.
In states like New York that have both tax liens and tax deeds, you can invest in unpaid property taxes (liens) or purchase properties outright if taxes remain unpaid (deeds). Research both options to see which fits your strategy best.
Absolutely! Living outside the US doesn't restrict you from purchasing tax deed lands. Many states allow international investors to participate in tax deed sales, often through online auctions.

Thank you for this information! Just curious could a person invest or buy tax liens/deeds in states they don’t live in? I’m from nj which isn’t a tax deed state but PA is. Is it possible to invest in deeds from somewhere else? How would that process work
Absolutely, you can invest in tax liens or deeds outside your home state. It's all about doing a bit of homework on properties and the rules of the game in that state. Many times, you can join in on auctions online. Just dive into the specifics for wherever you're looking to invest.
Generally speaking, the likelihood of a previous owner successfully challenging a tax deed is quite low, especially if all the legal steps were properly followed during the sale. Successful challenges mostly happen if there were significant procedural errors, like not giving the owner enough notice. It's pretty clear-cut if all the rules were followed, so these sales usually stand firm.
How do we know if there are no other liens on the property? For example it may be on sale for $5,000 at the tax deed auction because of back taxes, but what if they owe $100,000 on a mortgage or other lien against the property?
Hey Dustin, I might be wrong here. But I was told that in TX a 6-month redemption period was for land only and an 18-month redemption period was for the property. Is this true?
The 2-year redemption period applies to homestead and agricultural properties, while it's 6 months for non-homestead, non-agricultural properties, including vacant land and most commercial properties.
