You did damn good work. I must say of the two backstories I do not care for the one involving aliens. No I do enjoy the theories of Atlantis as well as the fiction the alien stuff in here just doesn't fit for me. I prefer the other origin
@ reading the book, dissecting the parts I needed, scripting it, recording it, editing it, motion effects, it’s not bragging, it’s a fact to highlight that what might seem like a 12 min video has a ton of research and effort gone into it
Did L. Ron Hubbard get in Anne's ear at any point? That Atlantis book sounds like hard pass... great video tho summarising it all mate. Love Ur dedication
Short answer because aliens did it man I love ann rice the first three books were literally perfect then she lost her mind with the plot in the later years
I was all excited the first time it later and I clicked the notification and it wouldn't let me watch it said it had been removed. So this right here makes this rainy day in Texas so much better
I think it's interesting to point out that prior to "Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis", Anne Rice had been writing a novel tentatively titled "Born for Atlantis", which was totally unrelated to the Vampire Chronicles. However, for whatever reason, it was not working for her story-wise. After "Prince Lestat" was published, she retooled "Born for Atlantis" into "Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis". Now, in my opinion, this book's revelations about Amel's origins were initially for me a bitter pill to swallow, but I have come to accept it as canon. Also interesting to note: Amel is, in physical form, a red-haired, green-eyed version of Lestat.
Nice I'm super early! Can we get some videos on characters later life adventures? Like more to do with lestat and Atlantis how he basically becomes the vampire leader.
I used to love these books all the way up until Memnoch came out. She lost me there. Thankfully you do great videos so I don't need to ruin those memories with the later books and TV show.
Same here. I can't say I enjoyed Body Thief either because the concept of body-switching is too much for me. There are still some books in the VC that I would like to read, like The Vampire Armand and Blood and Gold, but the Atlantis and alien storylines in the later books... no, just no!
I had completely forgotten about the wild shit she wrote in Prince Lestat. She clearly took things way too far lol. Has she ever commented on that book? Like “ahhhh my bad y’all. I just needed the cash”
Thank U for making this vid Dean. I asked for it, probably a year ago (2023). Thank u. I prefer the origins of without the aliens. Bc in any story from any franchise, technology can't touch souls, unless if it was tecnomagic. I also thought for years that Amel was alway a nature spirit; having never been a human. Here's another vampire series to think about if u want Dean. The series of Being Human. Both the UK and US version. P.S. R u gonna make more vids to Rings & Iron?
Queen Anne, the Mother of all Modern Vampires. If there's a vampire trope that everyone knows weather its novels, shows, or a round of Vampires: The Masquerade (showing my age here) they can almost always be traced back to Vampire Chronicles.
No. Vampire folklore has always been much older than her books, and the makers of the Vampire: The Masquerade games intentionally delayed reading her books, as they did not want it to influence their creation. Also, as for modern media, the Twilight Saga has become equally well known, and the writer had never read or watched anything about vampires prior to writing. Underworld and Blade put a more evolutionary twist on vampires, that did not exist in Anne Rice's novels. I am not saying her books are not significant, but, each writer had their own inspiration, with a pre-existing common ground. And she definitely spiraled off the deep end with the alien plot. There *are* older, and some higher quality, vampire stories out there, And we shouldn't stop trying to make more original tales ourselves.
I read every Vampire Chronicle title up until the original Prince Lestat, granted i don't remember much from that Title, but i had no idea this Atlantis book existed and i'm kinda disappointed that she brought aliens into the folklore
Wasn't Akasha actually from ancient Iraq? From what I remember, she was brought to Egypt to marry Enkil because he didn't have any sisters, which was custom at the time. She may have been queen of ancient pre Egypt (which I think was named Kehmet) but she was originally from Uruk (Iraq).
@@cullenarthur8879 Actually…In her mortal life Akasha originated from the city of Uruk in the Tigris and Uphrates Valley. She went to Kemet to become the bride of Enkil and Queen of the region, bringing new ideas and beliefs to the area. At the time of birth there were people who were of a darker hue. Even in Royalty all different shades. That “Eve Gene” is amazing. Isn’t it? Then she moved to Kemet as Enkil’s queen… Now Class Where is Kemet??? Everyone let’s say it at the same time: AFRICA! @theofficialqueenofthebling I never discussed or disputed her "hue", but merely pointed out that she was in fact not originally from Kehmet (Egypt), which would be in Africa. Like you said, she was from Uruk, between the Tigris and Euphrates, which is Iraq, which is not Africa. I didn't dispute or even bring up any of the other things you said. I also wonder, why does it matter? She was a monster. She was a monster in life, and as a vampire. She ordered the kidnapping and violation of two women in front of her court, and after becoming a vampire, tried to kill half of humanity. Where she originally comes from is insignificant.
@@cullenarthur8879 true, in the grand scheme of things here actions spoke louder than anything she could have said, and was vicious to those around her - even her on kin, so her origins don’t really matter as much because she was always a monster, even as a human or vampire - as you said. I highly agree
Wow. I know a lot of people here are freaking out about the alien aspect here but tbh, I’m starting to think that Anne maybe a prophet without knowing. For those who don’t know, basically Amel is Enlil who is Annunaki and his wife (you guest it) is ninlil (aka Lilith). So yes, she is the first vampire. Which has a connection to Sekhmet and Egyptian goddess
The orgin of tvc vampires is from science fiction and not supernatural 😅 anyways, I love Amel. He's like Lestat's inner thoughts who love creeping on Louis while he's sleeping 😂
It was only Kaman that Amel harassed, when the King and Queen found out they went to Kaman’s home and tried to exorcise him, but could not. After a few days, the Nobles that wanted to continue eating the flesh of there family members, instead of barring them, they tried to kill the King and Queen, giving Amel a way to enter Akashas body
@VampireFolkloreVideos thank you! I really love all your videos and your voice is amazing to help keep relax before sleep. Good music as backgrounds as well. Can't wait for more.
There are all sorts of stories of ghosts, spirits, demons and other entities taking over human bodies for their own means. I find it no far stretch the concept of Akasha being taken over by a dark spirit etc even under false assumptions.
Ann Rice is a great story teller, but this origin is sooooo stupid. There are better origin stories out there. Sorry Ann. Original Bram Stoker, Penny Dreadful is inventive, the movie Van Helsing, staring Hugh Jackman, even the recent 2020 Dracula series starring Claes Bang is brilliant. The Atlantis story sounds like a mashup given to Ann Rice to construct. This happens a lot in the Publishing world.
It actually mimics other stories that people have told… I thought it was a good way to explain Menoch. The spirits of knowledge that the Taltos were/are make it more palatable
I love and miss Aaliyah but they never should’ve released Queen of the Damned. It was incomplete and it was a disgrace to a phenomenal book. The Vampire Chronicles are a masterpiece in my opinion. 10:24- Until I hear this! Aliens 👽 Huh? Now I just feel bad for Anne Rice. She dug into her own mythology so deeply that she came out the other damn side. Aliens man…I don’t know wha…It’s the damn aliens I guess. I’m starting to wonder how her mental state was at the end. She is still one of my favorite authors ever. But aliens? I’m just going to have to accept it.
I have *not* read all of her books, but now am off put by the aliens/replimoids/Atlantis revelation... How disappointing. I guess Tom Cruise was the right choice for Lestat 😉
So...if the aliens hadn't been lazy & just wiped out life on Earth themselves then vampires wouldn't exist, but neither would humans or any other Earth creature, so we have a rebellious half-alien & his murdering vamp offspring to thank for our existence! Those they kill & eat is our sacrifice to thank them for preventing the aliens from getting what they want. 😂

It was a really good video.
The level of jumping the shark that the vampire chronicles took with this Atlantis storyline should be studied.
Just realizing that vampirism is the first MLM. The line about needing to make more vampires to satisfy his bloodlust...needed to grow his downline xD
Exactly. And MLM is definitely a source of infectious modern vampirism
