    just a general fyi, the reason neville is so disturbed by the spell moody is casting on that spider thing is because that was the same spell that was cast on neville's own parents. it caused them to lose their minds, and they had to live in a mental institution due to its effects.

      they cut Neville's grandma from the films which is a shame since he's such a huge part of Neville's story
      She raised Neville, she's absurdly proud of his son and daughter-in-law's sacrifice and constantly bothers Neville with high expectations that he should live up to them (while poor Neville always visits them in the mental hospital and sees just where that bravery got them)
      She's old friends with McGonagal who urges her to "be proud of the granndson she hasm not the one she wants to have"

    Honestly, Harry not being able to let go of Cedric’s body, the juxtaposition of everyone cheering when something terrible has happened, and the wailing of Cedric’s dad as he realizes his son is gone is one of the saddest moments in the whole franchise. It’s so interesting to me because we were introduced to Cedric for the first time in this movie, and for the duration of the movie, he isn’t necessarily a special character. He’s just there. But his death was so impactful. The way his head was laid back, with his eyes wide open upon his death is an image I can never forget about.

    • @zippo_muk9254
      @zippo_muk9254 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I mean, his death was only really impactful because it was Voldemort who did it. His goons anyway and that Harry was almost caught too. I do wish we got more Cedric through the entire series, I think Robert Pattinson made a great character in both HP and Twilight. I think many people misunderstand that he’s a vampire, and has to old back and uncontrollable urge that he’s had for a century to meet this specific girl. He did a good job portraying both characters.

    • @TheSchaef47
      @TheSchaef47 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      It's the one moment of the entire franchise that really grabs me. It is just so devastating, Harry's sitting there, just fought the most evil man in the universe, barely escaped with his life, holding the body of his friend who, though he's only there for a short time, is just kind and generous to a fault, and didn't deserve any of this. And all the people around him cheering like that because they just don't know. And then the dad slowly realizes it. It rips my heart out just thinking about it.
      The implication there is that we're sad because we care about what Harry's going through, and not about Cedric specifically, and to be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of these books so I don't even care about Harry terribly much. But that moment is just an absolutely fantastic storytelling moment, one of a very few I can name off the top of my head, and I can get behind that.

    "I've never seen Dumbledore get angry like that" is right because he doesn't ever get like that. The whole scene feels so weird because the director apparently didn't read the book, but in that scene Dumbledore is calm and wise and reasonable and slowly unpacks the situation with logic and empathy for Harry. Why Gambon played it so crazed and over the top and why the director didn't stop him I have no idea.

    • @DaltonXMusic
      @DaltonXMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Really weird that the director didn't read the book, but I'm sure a lot of people around him did and might have advised him on how it's said. My thought is that Dumbledore takes an angry parental role and tries to scold the truth out of Harry hoping that Harry is still that mischievous child, otherwise he knows it's more sinister. From the Death Eaters attacking, having to set the entire school up for this event, trying to make his school look great in front of all the other schools, then Harry somehow ends up in the tournament. Kind of like that one nice teacher we've all seen get pissed. This man is stressed.

    Ravenclaw here. I love your reactions! To answer some of your questions: the red firework in the maze was to call for help for Fleur per Dumbledore’s instructions at the start of the maze; you are right that Neville would not steal from Snape because it was Dobby who did so in the book; yes the captives were aware that they were going to be bait in the lake and they were not going to die if a champion failed. In the book, Dumbledore is friends with the merpeople and they help willingly; when Tom and Harry duel, their wands react strangely because they share a core. There is a ball of light where they meet, and that ball moves according to the wizard’s will. Harry forced it all the way back into Tom’s wand, which means he had a stronger will than Tom. This forced the wand to basically backfire and start spitting out shadows of its last few spells, something the books explained in detail back during the quidditch championships when they were trying to see who had cast the dark mark in the sky. The last spells Tom’s wand had cast were of course to kill Cedric, the caretaker, and Harry’s parents. Finally, that old man wasn’t being nosy. He was the caretaker for the old Riddle manor, living in a small caretaker’s cottage on the premises, so he’s responsible for maintaining it and chasing off trespassers.

Fortunately his students already knew how to steer the ship to get home, Karkaroff always just stayed below deck and let them do all the work. In the book during the ball he was starring at Hermione and Viktor dancing together with a similar expression to Ron's so we know that he hasn't changed his views on Muggle-born students like Hermione.

    One of the main things I love about the Harry Potter movies is the introductions with the Warner Bros Symbol. If you have noticed, each movie the scene which the symbol is on gets progressively darker with each movie. To the point that in the last movie - you can barely see the symbol. Another thing is the curses. The crucio ( I hope I spelled that correctly ) spell affects Neville because its the same spell that puts his parents into the mental institute. I think in the books, there is a whole chapter dedicated what happened to Neville's parents. The killing curse and why Moody seems to look at Harry weirdly is the fact that Harry is the only one to have survived it.

    The graveyard scene is one of my favorites. Voldemort back at full power after so long. He's both manic and elated which just adds to his madness with him "dueling" Harry. Teaching him about the etiquette of a duel then showing off his power by torturing him. Him screaming, " I want you to look at me when I kill you! I want to see the light leave your eyes!" I get chills every time.

    Hufflepuff! And when it comes to HP this was probably my favorite of the books. It was the first one that was released where people were lining up and trying to get them on release day. it was when 'Potter-mania' really began (at least around me). And the book was much, much more in depth than the movie, but this was still a great movie. I actually wasn't the biggest fan of the 3rd movie because they changed a ton of stuff from the book (that didn't need to be changed), but just wait for what's to come because there are some really great things to come.

    In the books, it was actually Dobby the house elf (remember him from movie 2?) who stole the gillyweed and gave it to Harry! After Harry freed Dobby Dumbledore hired him to work at Hogwarts. I agree with you-- I can't see Neville stealing from Snape, very out of character.

  • @user-ee8yj4io3g
    @user-ee8yj4io3g 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    - Neville's parents were tortured by Crucio Bellatrix Lestrange (Sirius Black's cousin)
    - In order to master the forbidden spells perfectly, you really have to want to subdue, torture, and kill someone, and it takes years!
    - The scene where Dumbledore grabbed Harry interrogating him whether he really threw his name into the Cup infuriated book readers)))
    - Harry's wand is ironically the twin of Voldemort's wand, namely both have the core of the phoenix feather, this is also the reason why they cannot harm each other...

    • @user-ee8yj4io3g
      @user-ee8yj4io3g 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seigeengine Forbidden spells take a lot of time, mostly years + it depends on the skill level of the wizard and what kind of pedigree he has along the biological magical line...Bellatrix, for example, spent many years to master Avada Kedavra.I am aware that they belong to the same Phoenix, which is what I was saying that they are twins of the same feather.

  • @phousefilms
    @phousefilms 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Taken from the book: "Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" Dumbledore asked calmlly. CALMLY.
    The conspiracy of Barty Crouch Jr. was revealed to go further. He's the one who imperius's Krum to get Cedric out of the way and curses Fleur in the maze. However, despite the fact he's a major witness, Cornelius Fudge brings a dementor with him as security and it gives him the Dementors Kiss, sucking out his soul and making him useless as a witness.
    Theres a side plot which was removed that I was upset about, as it sets up a great deal of the conflict in the next film, but the journalist Rita Skeeter begins publishing secrets and its revealed she's an animagus, taking the form of a beetle to spy. She reveals Hagrid is half giant and also that Harry is a parseltongue.
    Ralph Fiennes is amazing as Voldemort. But the tone of the movie definitely didn't feel like it was setting up for the moment of his return. My friend even said he thought a totally different director filmed the graveyard sequence.
    The book does mention that the shared cores make Voldemort unable to kill Harry(and the Phoenix that gave the wands cores was Fawkes, Dumbledores pet.)
    It doesn't mention it in the later movies, but Karkaroff, the Headmaster of Durmstrang, runs off rather than return to Voldemort and is killed years later as punishment for snitching.

    I forget if it was explored in the books or not, but I believe Igor Karkaroff (Durmstrang headmaster) tampered with the goblet of fire too. But it wasn't to help Barty Crouch Jr., It was to ensure that it was Viktor Krum's name that was chosen as the Durmstrang champion.
    Although Sirius said "no one stops being a death eater" I do not believe that is true, and Karkaroff is indeed reformed from his old death eating ways.

    Yeah, this is the movie that cut a lot of things out of the book that it made it feel incomplete to me when i first watched it. This film is kind of the reason why I kind of want you to watch some videos from Movieflame talking about the differences between book and film, as he did for all eight movies. I do say that you don't need to react to them, but can watch them after finishing all eight films as there are some spoiliers for the other films, and you should wait after viewing all the films, and if you have time.

      This is actually the only movie I thought better than the book. That book had about 200+ pages of nothing but filler if you ask me. It was what the 3rd movie cut from the book that most bothered me. Still great books great movies and so far as movies based upon books go you gotta say HP is amongst the very best

    • @more-reasons6655
      @more-reasons6655 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure there are differences but at least the movie cut the filler parts, gave nevill a moment which the book even hinted to and it added so much terror to the trials
      We may lose Ludo Bagman and learning that the challenges are safer than a play-pen in the books but in my opinion I think the whole fan base thinks it's a good change.
      You cant argue that it's a bad adaptation when the only gripe people seem to have with it is that Dumbledore says the same words but with different intent (Did'ya put ya name in the Goblet of Fiyah!!!!!!!)
