I hate how Rose's reputation was completly destroyed. She did bad thing IN THE PAST. But she changed. She grew as a person and became genuinely good. Her redemption arc is smooth, realistic and honest. Rose is the best possible representation of the messages "Steven Universe" was going for. And what did she get for that? Character assassination. Like, this show is my favourite show ever but I can't help but just be disappointed at the way it treats Rose Quartz.
Yeah, for real. They treated Rose like she was a villain for: 1. Escaping an abusive household that wasn’t listening to her at ALL, 2. Being the leader of a war that wanted to keep humanity safe because “she didn’t talk it out with the other diamonds.” 3. Lock Bismuth away because she was going to shatter gems(did u guys even SEE how she was acting, saying things like she would’ve shattered the diamonds) 3. Having a child without thinking the things he would go thru. She couldn’t have known that they were gonna try and destroy Earth again. Let alone that Steven would be dealing with the consequences. She wanted a CHILD, NOT A LEGACY, there’s a difference, Crewniverse! (I’m not talking about abandoning Spinel, because that was simply created to make us hate her) To quote Blue Zircon: “Rose Quartz is…flawed, I grant you.” And to that I say: ABSOLUTELY. Rose isn’t a horrible person, and while she did horrible things, never forgiving her is worse. Because as that showed, all it did was make everyone forget all the good she tried to do for Earth and kept it safe from Homeworld. She DID try to stop the colonization herself, she DID try the peaceful route. They didn’t listen to her as Pink, so she decided to make someone they WOULD listen to. A liberating revolutionary Rose Quartz. She NEVER intended so much harm to everyone, and it just happened. And finally, they try to pass it all off as though she’s to blame for all of it. Look, Steven, YOU couldn’t reason with Yellow, Blue & White at first, so I don’t get why YOU think Pink was a coward to run. All I wanted to say, I will be an advocate for the fact that Rose Quartz is NOT evil or as messed up as they believed. And Spinel was only created to make us hate her more than we should’ve
@@Doze1202 EXACTLY! Most of people forget that Rose was a victim of abuse. Of course trauma is never an excuse for someone's wrongdoings. But it is something that fully justifies the fact that she ran away from Homeworld. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LOYAL TO YOUR ABUSERS. As you said, Rose never intended to start a war at first. She did all she could to solve it peacefully but Diamonds just wouldn't listen to her. About Bismuth, Rose should've tell others about it but the fact that she bubbled her on it's own wasn't wrong at all. Imagine someone telling you they've made a weapon precisely to kill you and your family. Even if Rose wasn't Pink Diamond, she still wouldn't have agreed with Bismuth because it was simply wrong thing to do. I think the lack of communication with others stems from the fact that Diamonds never listened to what she wants and needs. She was taught that talking won't solve anything, thus she never told anyone about Bismuth, cleared out her relationship with Pearl and Greg, left Spinel in the garden instead of communicating with her and so on. It's not a justification but I just wanted to tell the possible reason. I actually think that things like abandoning Spinel or damaging Volleyball, I do think that it's actually in-character for that stage of her development. I know you said only about Spinel here but I'm going to talk about Volleyball too because it's kinda connected. First of all, damaging Volleyball was an accident. Which doesn't make it much better, of course. But although we shouldn't justify it, we should understand that living in abuse causes a lot of stress so for the fact itself that Rose had issues with her temper, we can't blame her. Unfortunetly, Volleyball is a sad example of how victims can hurt people too. And I think that hurting Volleyball and getting her taken away was a wake up call for Rose and this is when she started changing because she didn't want to be like this. You could even say she didn't want to be like the Diamonds, an abuser. But then we have Spinel which... is complicated and can be interpreted in various ways. But I think that she Rose never wanted Spinel in the first place. Spinel was most likely Diamonds' response on the fact that Rose ealier was friends with her Pearl. So obviously, Rose didn't want to replace Volleyball. The other thing is that Spinel most likely wouldn't have listened if Rose told her she doesn't want to play anymore and has other responsibilities to take care of. After all, Spinel was made to entertain her and in the movie it was clear how overbearing she was. She couldn't have been assigned to someone else too as she was created precisely for Pink Diamond. So when you think about it, what Rose did was bad but there wasn't much choice anyway and she most likely never wanted Spinel as her friend in the first place and we can't force people to be friends. I still feel bad for Spinel because it obviously wasn't her fault, it was what she made for. But we have to understand the both sides. When it comes to Steven... I'M JUST SO HAPPY SOMEONE FINALLY GETS IT! Rose simply wanted to create life but on human terms. She couldn't have known that Homeworld would still have interest in Earth and that her child would have to face what she left behind. In her eyes, the war was over and Earth was safe. If she knew what was yet to come, I believe she wouldn't have make decision to have Steven. At the end of the day, Steven and people who were hurt by Rose aren't obligated to forgive her. You're never obligated to forgive if you don't want to. But I think it would fit with the message of the show if they, especially Steven, came to terms with what Rose had done but understood that she wasn't malicious and forgive her. I think that especially Steven needs this. I believe he would feel so much lighter if he let go of this resentment for his mother. I'm even writing fanfiction about it because since I first saw "Steven Universe Future" I always felt like there lacks some closure when it comes to how Steven feels about Rose.
For real. I’ve had my opinions about Oink for a long time and it always boiled down to she was incredible, but she wasn’t perfect. But the Crewniverse and by proxy the characters are going through hell and back to say she’s evil because she was coping with trauma and everything we’ve explained. The entire point of Steven Universe is knowing your flaws and accepting them. Saying Rose was the TRUE villain technically was harsh to me. And then they added Volleyball & Spinel’s trauma to make her seem more hatable. I feel bad for them, and it adds to Pink’s baggage, but to me, it feels more intentional that they just wanted Pink to be hated, when we know we shouldn’t after all she’s been through
I always thought the apologies in SU were implied. Like usually when the character is sorry there's something more important to deal with. The shame of Steven only perspective
Yeah... we could've got much better view on the characters and their relationships if they didn't happen only from Steven's perspective. Like, perhaps Lapis did apologize to Peridot when they reformed after fighting Blue Diamond? But we can't know that because Steven wasn't there to see it thus viewers weren't there to see it. That could be the case for many other characters but we just can't know it...

There are many times were the "good" characters act like...twitter users. im so glad to see someone appreciating the nuance of rose quartz/pink diamond, so many people talk about her as if she is literally the devil, when the reality her character was extremely emotionally immature, she had so much love for humans that it got in the way of appreciating, protecting, and loving the crystal gems themselves. People seem to forget that characters can have both good and bad actions and still be well written, compelling, and even sympathetic at times. Im not "defending" roses more heinous actions with characters like bismuth and pearl, but i dislike how for awhile fandom discourse around her just wrote her off as a completely evil character with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

The fact that Rebecca chose to make the Diamonds the sympathetic characters that get redemption arc speaks volumes. So a group of ruthless genecital space tyrants are worthy of sympathy and redemption but characters like Kevin and Lars. What makes the diamonds redemption so terrible is the fact they don't face any repercussions for their actions.
Lars wasn’t a character that NEEDED to be redeemed, he was just a standoffish kid who wanted people to like him and felt he had to change to make that happen. Lars’s journey shoulda been more learning to be himself in front of others, and accept that people liked him or they didn’t. I don’t get why Lars and The Off Colors were underused, but the arc was rushed, but Lars deserved a better ending than just realizing Sadie and he are better as friends and then going to space to be the Space Pirate. He believes other people to be fake, so he acts like a jerk as his way of saying “I’m nothing like you”. It’s best shown in Kevin Party, where he shouts at his guests who actually WERE having fun, and his lack of knowing how people treat friends shows he doesn’t have much. Kevin’s story woulda been not realizing all people are fake or lying to themselves and learning that HE is the problem that needs fixing. @Doze1202 Lars character and his story with the off colours had so much potential and it should've been better explored. They should've played a part fighting against the diamonds.
The cool kids being bullies? Lars wanted to be apart of them, not bullied by them; I think saying that is a huge reach. @TheCrowReviewer Its hard to say because we don't know much about Beach City's school or if there are any other kids that live there. And the only school Steven goes to is in the comics and there are kids there, maybe that's where they went?
@@ionryful I love the Steven Universe school days comic and I can't wait to cover it because it's like a mini movie but the reason why I haven't covered it yet is because Rebecca Sugar's husband wrote and oversaw it's production more than she did. It's barely level 2 canon and no other characters from the show besides Steven, Connie and The Crystal Gems were involved. It's something we can definitely point to but evidence is unfortunately scarce there as well. 🤔👍
I feel like the show peaked at jailbreak because the stakes have not been as high since that episode. Jasper can be dealt with by simply fusing and she corrupts which makes her just like all of the other corrupted gems and it prevents her from resolving her arc until after the main conflict of the show is resolved. She also gathers an entire army of corrupted gems that she doesn't really get a chance to use. I would imagine that she would either try to "train" the corrupted gems, or see them as defective and shatter them. Jasper basically had to be put on the shelf until the Diamonds were ok with not killing the crystal gems instead of having her actually be the main antagonist that couldn't just be talked out of doing bad stuff.
I was online a LOT when I watched the show, but I was really hyped up on the idea of Jasper getting a redemption arc. But as u prolly saw, it never happened. She just acts all tsundere at the end, cuz they didn’t know what to do with her. But yeah, hands down, the best villain of this show is Jasper. Girl peaked at her debut episodes, was incredible in every fight. And her dynamic with Amethyst & Steven was AWESOME! She deserved WAY better than just she lives in the woods and doesn’t have anyone to follow or fight
Yeah but Ronaldo was the one mostly in the wrong there and they were like, middle schoolers. That goes for the cool kids potentially gossiping behind Ronaldo's back too. Such a non issue in defense for the guy whose main character trait is being invasive towards other people and disrespecting boundaries.
I think Lars was projecting when he said they say things about Ronaldo. I could see one of them saying that Ronaldo is a bit strange, and Lars starts immediately spiraling about how they must think they are both freaks.

The cool kids being bullies? Lars wanted to be apart of them, not bullied by them; I think saying that is a huge reach. They did do bad things like every other character in the show, However, it wasn't that bad; the worst thing is the guitar dad shirts, and even Steven did the same thing to Buck. Point being, It doesn't warrant that level of scrutiny.
@@dr.koupop880 Did you watch the entire section, the fun follow-up question that I have for you now is if The Cool Kids weren't the group of people that Lars was referring to who were saying *unfathomably awful things* about Ronaldo then who were? Who else would Lars respect the opinion of to such an extent that it would make him betray his friend? We know that it couldn't have been any adults cause Lars couldn't care less about what his parents think so yeah. 😉👍
It was never that black and white. A character wasn't good or bad. Less punishment and more like personal growth and development

2:40 Puss In Boots: The Last Wish.
Haha, you got me. 🙌😉
This is so underrated omg!❤
@@welcometodreamworldfan Thanks for being here so early, fam and I appreciate you commenting more recently! 😊
I think Lars was projecting when he said they say things about Ronaldo. I could see one of them saying that Ronaldo is a bit strange, and Lars starts immediately spiraling about how they must think they are both freaks.
I only know about that cause ppl complain about multiversus comic on twitter. But it's not well known

...... why didnt they use the rejuvenator on vollyball?
God, I love that thumbnail art. I need that Lars pic. Who's the artist?

Man you realy love steven universe it seems huh
Yes.
Make a vídeo about what happened to Warner Bros Discovery's other animation channels: kids'wb and the hub respectively
This was a great video but I'm kinda confused by its title, it feels very different from the actual content!
@@ThePaulineu It's nuanced, I still believe that overall the Redemption System on Steven Universe was weak for the reasons explained in the video but I also understand it's purpose was met at least from the perspective of the writers. 😉
Here early!
Thanks for being here, hees! Second place for you, fam. Much love! 🥈
honestly my second least favorite character is steven. he gets too much screen time.
Yeah, I've heard about that. Bloom from Winx Club has also been called out for that.
I do like Steven but I agree that he was getting way too much attention that we haven’t gotten episodes where the gems didn’t had episodes that were focused on just them. If rebecca ever gets the chance to make a revival series, I do hope it can be a spinoff. And honestly a spinoff makes sense after Future. Steven’s arc finally has been done after Future, so a sequel spinoff series that can focus on just the gems can work.
Kinda goes with having a pov character
The show is supposed to be entirely from his pov, so anything we see is what he sees. Anything that he isnt present for goes unmentioned (like lars and sadie not working out)
@@dusksunsetio6042Which in the long run is a disadvantage for story-heavy shows like this. The only shows I can think of where the permanently-anchored main character POV didn’t hurt it are episodic ones
1 MINUTE AGO!
Also I liked it :)
