As someone who worked at a family campground for two years, it is painfully familiar to hear a note written by a camper about something the wild animals did. We received a complaint one day because raccoons stole a bag of marshmallows. A bag of marshmallows that had been opened and left sitting on their picnic table overnight. This family expected us to replace their marshmallows, because it was clearly our fault that the raccoons took them. Luckily my manager had a "suck it up buttercup, we're in the fucking woods" policy whenever things like that happened. A policy that the family was none too pleased with... People can be absolutely ridiculous.
Yup I work at a park and the utter nonsense we encounter on a daily basis is ridiculous, has this one chick tell me “the geese poop too much it’s everywhere”like we aren’t in a fucking park lol I’m sorry Leme tell them to use the bathrooms 🤣
I mean there is a LOT to question here but why does this park, which is apparently out in the middle of nowhere, need to have a sewer system that rivals New York?
Imagine if this happened to you in real life. You woke up in some strange out of proportion bathroom with nothing but crazy jump skills and bad lungs. Your dog went to get you help but never came back because of magpies and/or Ranger Ronald. Chilling stuff.
Game Artist here. To answer your query on the gate, here's my assumption as there is more than one way this person could have done it. Collision would have been applied to all fences surrounding the map to keep the player inside. Simple, you see it all the time. This is where things get odd. If your looking at something like a door or anything that plays an animation, you apply collision all the same. And when that object moves, so will the collision attached to it. Either that or they just didn't apply collision to the mesh at all. So making a gate swing open is very easy as it stops the player from going through when shut, and when opened the player is free to walk pass. Just like real life. In this case I imagine this person had no idea how to animate or import an animation into Unity. So instead they placed a trigger surrounding the gate that disabled the collision when the player entered it's radius. P.S you talked about animation and pivot points. If the person were to animate the gate swinging open he would have to place the pivot to the far left or right (depending on which side he wanted to do first) of the gate door then rotate and place key frames to lock the animation. Otherwise if the pivot was in the centre of the gate mesh it would just rotate in circles on the spot :) Got a little carried away there but I hope that is somewhat helpful.
+HarshlyCritical I was just thinking that the end pillars of the gate didn't have collision. I assume, if this was done on purpose, the gate wouldn't open for the maker since the door was colliding with the end pillars and refusing to open (since a door might be programmed to not pass through a player or other object). Wouldn't put it past them to go "So long as they see the pillars, why would they try walking into them?" When you passed through, you hit a trigger zone which loaded the next map. I assume the gate actually could open - just that you'd immediately move maps. If the gate wasn't supposed to open, the trigger zone wouldn't exist, because clicking the gate with a key would be the trigger. I saw nothing to suggest the gate, itself, would lose collision and make the player walk through the rendered, closed gate to activate the trigger zone. We just didn't get the chance to see the gate open.
Griffo1709 I'm guessing that the collision models for the gate and player just let the player pass through, while there's an invisible wall right in front of the other wall.
Help, I played this drinking game last night and blacked out within 5 minutes. I just woke up on a bathroom floor in a strange park. The ucking birds are attacking me!
+proudblackjynx It used to be common folklore and knowledge that magpies stole shiny objects; most people likely still believe that, as I did until quite literally looking up the link +buckshot badger posted. Don't know why you'd think it had anything to do with cartoons...
Okay, you have an awfully bugged game, with an unbalanced monster with a rather cute sound and can actually DIE from sprinting too much that costs $6. Whoever made this game wants you to pay $6 for the Absence of Fun it seems.
It looks like you take damage from being in the dark. It seemed like you were taking a little bit of damage even while walking, and being in the light actually reduced your damage. That actually seems like it'd be a decent mechanic in a better game, especially considering the sewer section has you turning off lights to progress.
I always love watching you play bad games. xD Always entertaining. I think your reaction to the monster actually showing up was the best part, as it actually startled me! Haha
I'm pretty much convinced at this point that there is a sect of indie horror game developers out there who intentionally create the most broken, God-awful, generic games out there, just for kicks and to see how TH-cam Let's players react. That can be the only answer. Right...? Right.....? It has to be a joke, and not real. RIGHT??
The complaint about the birds is so realistic. I have dealt with too many customers that are after nothing but an argument. They usually don't even want anything other than confrontation and if you don't give it to them they will tell the manager. -Des
I don't know why, but it's so funny to watch you play those games, they are so good! Sometimes it looks like you're beta testing them. How is your sanity not gone yet ?
Awww, your dog is so cute!!! ♥ But WOW! ... That is so bad. Some of the nonsense that gets sold on Steam - just wow. Thank you so much for the warning on this one though! lol
Old video but I got a kick out of Everytime the load screen ended, you can hear the two feet just drop on the floor like the character just jumped through the door or something during the loading screen. I've watched this video 3 times now, and that drop into the next area always makes me chuckle
Every time you say something about red being scary I start playing Red by Chevelle in my head. Specifically the phrase "Seeing red again" for some reason.
this is the amount of coding we learned during one course in my school. if you think 6 weeks of low intensity studies makes you a pro game dev, this is what it would look like.
I know I'm a little late, but as far as the gate thing is concerned, I think you may have it right about them not giving the pivot point detection. Either they wanted to make the gate open at some point in development and gave up, or they gate actually does open when you go through properly(with the key) and the loading screen isn't from you going through the gate specifically, but tied to your character standing at a point that is past the gate threshold.
***** Definitely want to see the new one. From what I've read, the game is expanded and things look less goofy (barring the new crazy DLC outfits). Ghosts that had stories but weren't finished to be in the actual game are there, missing stories explaining ghosts added, entirely new ghosts that didn't make it at all into the original Bunch of other changes I'd looove to get to see.
"Well acquainted with friends' bathroom floors...." I think there'd be more entertainment hearing the stories behind THAT than playing this sad excuse for a game. Hell, I don't *think* it --- I *know* it.
+NM Gaming Visage, Allison Road, Narcosis, Routine, Perception and What Remains of Edith Finch are other promising titles to look out for. Most of them are scheduled for release this year.
Your pup is so adorable! I like that it came in to check on you. I tend to hug mine after really spooky gaming sessions, though this game was...uh...well. Something.
Sp00py disappearing continue button! ooOOOoo. I'm happy I woke up to this in my feed, good to start a day with laughter. ^-^ Also, what a sweet dog being all concerned like that.
How you can run yourself into submission before the "monster even gets a hold of you is the funniest thing to me. Or at least that's how I'm interpreting it, because any other answer actually makes sense.

Did this family at least sign the letter with some kind of contact information? Cuz the Absent family didn't.
Yup
I work at a park and the utter nonsense we encounter on a daily basis is ridiculous, has this one chick tell me “the geese poop too much it’s everywhere”like we aren’t in a fucking park lol I’m sorry Leme tell them to use the bathrooms 🤣
old comment but tickled me when you put “because it was clearly our fault that the raccoons took them”🤣
"Who needs to actually solve the puzzles when we can- NO WAY!" I laughed hard.
I mean there is a LOT to question here but why does this park, which is apparently out in the middle of nowhere, need to have a sewer system that rivals New York?
bc its SPOOOOPIER
It was probably just the only completely free sewer asset available.
What is this? Who made this?
This is nothing. Nothing made this. They were absent when this was made.
Lol no
+wolfdragon productions™ maybe their name was.. abby sent ? :O
it made its self :P

+Griffo1709 Thanks for the info! At first I thought you were identifying yourself as the Game Artist for Absence, haha.
+HarshlyCritical Oh god no

Drinking game: Take a shot every time John says "No way!"
*[dies of alcohol poisoning]*
Help, I played this drinking game last night and blacked out within 5 minutes. I just woke up on a bathroom floor in a strange park. The ucking birds are attacking me!
Absence of a working liver.
The magpies are acting strangely. They're taking jewelry.
THAT'S HOW MAGPIES ACT.
Sabbat-X not Australian Magpies.
Actually it isn't. Magpies don't do that. www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-28797519
Sabbat-X no they don't. You watch too many cartoons.
+proudblackjynx It used to be common folklore and knowledge that magpies stole shiny objects; most people likely still believe that, as I did until quite literally looking up the link +buckshot badger posted. Don't know why you'd think it had anything to do with cartoons...
John's dog was the highlight of this video for me.
7:05 Another day in the life of customer service.
more like "and i demand a refund!! and!! compensation for my necklace and all of my future jewelry"
Okay, you have an awfully bugged game, with an unbalanced monster with a rather cute sound and can actually DIE from sprinting too much that costs $6.
Whoever made this game wants you to pay $6 for the Absence of Fun it seems.
"The birds flew away with my necklace and would like to know what to do to fix this. Fix this!? You can't fix that you dumbshit!" Lolled so hard
same sprinting ¨out of breathe¨ sound from the original slender.
"Your necklace is gone dumbshit!"cracked me up.
that steam description deserves a perfect score of 5/7!
I think Its a 7/7. They stuck with the whole absence theme and didnt even include the final sentence. They really committed to the gimmick.
Step it up Stairmaster you got me there xD
Wait is 5/7 that joke this facebook guy made trolling this other guy about a movie?
Lorenzo Syquia indeed it is
Lorenzo Syquia except he wasn't trollin anyone. he owned both accounts and just made it look funny :P
if u notice...the floor sounds like wood even tho it's dirt
Maybe it's wooden shoes.
Ah yes, Ranger Ronald. Ranger Rick's alchoholic Brother
***** no, Ranger rick was a magazine. Thats who i was referring to. Ive never played gone home
pikaforce64 Oh man those magazines were my childhood.
i love the breathing sound effect that is literally just looping over and over and again every time you sprint
2:53 "So right away there's like a billion Red flags going off."
Boy that sounds REALLY SCARY!!!
We all know red is a scary color!
People are starting to miss you as a mod.
I thought this game was gonna steal my idea for a horror game where nothing acctually happens
Doctor Mercy it's like an episode of Seinfeld, it's about nothing lol
It looks like you take damage from being in the dark. It seemed like you were taking a little bit of damage even while walking, and being in the light actually reduced your damage.
That actually seems like it'd be a decent mechanic in a better game, especially considering the sewer section has you turning off lights to progress.
it's like they tried to make the Sanity feature from Amnesia but it really sucks
some people have no shame in how they make a quick buck. thank god steam finally has a refund system of some kind.
Has it at least made your heart grow fonder?
Fuck
Ranger Ronald: GARY THE BIRDS ARE TAKING JEWELRY AGAIN, TO THE RANGERMOBILE!
I died at "GUYS THIS GAME IS SO BAAAAD" like omg the way you said it loool
Getting to see HarshlyCritical's dog easily the highlight of this.
"WHAT!? THAT IS A CRAZY VERTICAL!!!" XD
"We cant be lousy cheaters all the time." Dont tell me how to live my life.
I always love watching you play bad games. xD Always entertaining. I think your reaction to the monster actually showing up was the best part, as it actually startled me! Haha
I ought to buy this game...
...then mod the ever-living hell out of it.
There's an "Absence" of good programming in this game
Your dog is awesome and adorable. Fact.
You want some cinematic story telling? Ok lets see... Oh I know!
THEY CLOSED THUH LAKE TUHDAY
There are 1 steam achievements!
Aw this game is so bad, your dog had to save you from this pain!

The TRUE Horror
I'm pretty much convinced at this point that there is a sect of indie horror game developers out there who intentionally create the most broken, God-awful, generic games out there, just for kicks and to see how TH-cam Let's players react.
That can be the only answer. Right...? Right.....? It has to be a joke, and not real.
RIGHT??
Magpies stealing jewelry?
That's nothing; there's another forest park where bears are stealing picnic baskets!
The real horror is that the cute dog didn’t have more air time.
The complaint about the birds is so realistic. I have dealt with too many customers that are after nothing but an argument. They usually don't even want anything other than confrontation and if you don't give it to them they will tell the manager.

John: "That's all I need in my room! A Table, a chair and a crate! :D"
You and I have that in common ;D
"every once in a while there's a good indie horror game on steam" wishful thinking, john, wishful thinking
Every time you play an Indie horror game, my favorite part is when you read the Steam store description. They get me every time.
Don't mind me. Just passing through watching John's Bad Horror Games playlist. This game is: Absent of game quality.
I love how you read the Steam description every now and then. Love this channel, keep up the gud work.
+10Bananas OFFICIAL Also your doggo is adorable :^O
8:43 I know im extremely late, but no, he simply forgot to add the collider to the fence and you could walk right through it lol.
Old video but I got a kick out of Everytime the load screen ended, you can hear the two feet just drop on the floor like the character just jumped through the door or something during the loading screen. I've watched this video 3 times now, and that drop into the next area always makes me chuckle

you have not even seen it
+Keron Wynter you can see her in the video ? So I have
+Keron Wynter Clearly you would be a fantastic detective.
Ooh! Doggo!
I can't believe John wall hax.
This was freakin incredible.
It looks like the sprinting speeds up your character's heart rate, which is what the red is for, and maybe when u look at spooky monsters too
The most horrifying thing a game can do:
When you click "continue", the only thing that happens is the option disappears.
I'll write this in my notes.
For me 2016 was like peak John for me
jeeze I feel like a jerk. ive been watching your videos for ever a year and never realized I've not yet subscribed. well, I'm subscribed now.
This was absolutely hilarious xD your reactions made this video for me. I'm so happy you played this!!!!
had to come back to this after so long because man, that ranger Ronald part is literally the best LOL love you John!!
Every time you say something about red being scary I start playing Red by Chevelle in my head. Specifically the phrase "Seeing red again" for some reason.

This trainwreck of a game honestly made my week. Also, your dog is a cutie ^-^
funfact: that is the sewer set from the witcher 1.
someone forgot their colliders
Well... I kinda like the lighting. It's simple, but used reasonably effectively. Reminds me of Afraid of Monsters and Cry of Fear.
sounds like the monster says "slow down"
White Day (Remastered, English) is out on Google Play store now. :o iOS on the 14th. PC and PlayStation are still promised and on the way.
+MegaScience Yes, I am well aware. Been contacted by the devs about it :)
***** Definitely want to see the new one. From what I've read, the game is expanded and things look less goofy (barring the new crazy DLC outfits). +MegaScience how much will white day cost on ps3, if its on there?
Zombieeraser12 I thought the PlayStation plan focused on PS4's upcoming VR support, so it'd only be on that.
MegaScience NOOO! its fine thanks
"Well acquainted with friends' bathroom floors...."
I think there'd be more entertainment hearing the stories behind THAT than playing this sad excuse for a game.
Hell, I don't *think* it --- I *know* it.
I wish we had another good game coming. Dammnit outlast 2, why must you come in fall?
+NM Gaming Visage, Allison Road, Narcosis, Routine, Perception and What Remains of Edith Finch are other promising titles to look out for. Most of them are scheduled for release this year.
No Man's Sky also.
HarshlyCritical True, well can't wait to see those games. Awesome John
"Outlast" "Good". Pick one
Are you trying to say outlast is shit?
I guess you're a fan of RE6 or something.
14:50-15:15 god i can't remember the last time i laughed so hard, i guess the game's about the absence of proper coding
7.2Gb's of the download is the red screen border sprint effect & senseless notes about jewel thieving birds.
Your pup is so adorable! I like that it came in to check on you. I tend to hug mine after really spooky gaming sessions, though this game was...uh...well. Something.
damn it John u went from being harshly critical to harshly mean! lol
Not mean, John is just very sassy
+Gabi Soto yea I guess so :p
+Gabi Soto I wouldn't even say he's sassy. The reason he's so straight forward is because John is not loser.
"BEWARE!" it's like i'm watching a Scooby Doo episode lmao
this is a classic
god from slipping the fence the video just gets better and better!
WHAT IS THEIR A STRANGE SENSE OF? Will we ever know after 2 years?
Outro art cool asf
The hinges were lacking colision-detection was what you were looking for.^^
Looked at the thumbnail, absolutely thought the title of the game was "Alosenoe".
Makes more sense than the actual game :V
"There is a strange sense of..." That suspense though...
Sp00py disappearing continue button! ooOOOoo. I'm happy I woke up to this in my feed, good to start a day with laughter. ^-^
Also, what a sweet dog being all concerned like that.
Woah, slow your roll. All that sprinting around is making the screen red. Scary red is making me uncomfortable. I'm triggered now. :(
How would you react to a bouquet of red roses?
+Sur-Gee-O Immediate dislike, triggered
Bouquet of red roses? 3SPOOPY5ME!!!! Everyone knows Red is Scary
actually roses can have different colors, you rosist #triggered
I love watching your videos..you do a great job..your dog is adorable btw.
How you can run yourself into submission before the "monster even gets a hold of you is the funniest thing to me.
Or at least that's how I'm interpreting it, because any other answer actually makes sense.
6$?! Why people why
These random horror games always make my day :)
I heard the monster say "Turn around!"
omfg i died at that note about the missing necklace fml
john because i make some short games i can tell that the door just didnt had collision when they modeled it
"why can't you just squeeze through the bars" is finally realized, here in Absence
*WHERE İS THERE?*
When the "continue" option disappeared, I suddenly understood what was absent.
Oh, so it's Birdemic.
The best thing about this in terms of hilarity is the fact that it's advised when you go camping to not bring bright or shiny jewelry because animals like Crows or MAGPIES will steal them.
For some reason, I turned on the auto-subtitles, and I find them funny as I hear John speak his words, even though they're correctly translated.
"What are we doing here?!" Such a good question...
So, John my man, someday you're gonna have to elaborate for us on your vast experience with bathroom floors.
Not gonna lie, it still scared me at the end. I'm a chicken.
Hey, John. just want to check did you saw my message about the game DEAD HEAD FRED?
I feel like I get hurt from running, too 😂 Death by running seems like a distinct possibility!
