8:50 They have renamed "Directions" to "Axis" since the release of this video. The workflow remain the same though. Just in case you get confused why "Directions" isn't there anymore.

Shortcuts for navigating around the workspace when using a mouse with a clickable scrollwheel:
Scroll wheel forward / backward -> Zoom in and out
Press and hold scroll wheel + move mouse -> Pan around the workspace
Shift key + Press and hold scroll wheel + move mouse -> Orbit the work piece

This needs to be said. There are many tutorials out there. The authors know the product and they have made an effort to transfer that information to others and of course gather likes and followers. But this tutorial is outstanding. Not only is it professionally designed, as a teacher myself I can say it is very didactic. Meticulously following each and every step I achieved in one lesson the kind of initial expertise I was always looking for. Now I am not just a follower. I am a fan wishing to learn more.

Completely agree. Several items such as showing how to set up the UI defaults and only briefly covering every variant of ways to access functions allowed the lesson to run smoothly for me.

I found this tutorial based on a reddit recommendation. I'm in my mid 40's now and it's been more than half my lifetime since I did CAD training on AutoCAD R12 - R14 and worked in the automotive industry. I loved that job so much. Even though I'll never use it I still have my drawing portfolio from when I finished training.
Now I'm looking to acquire a 3D printer I thought it would be the ideal time to find some appropriate software to design & model the things I want to make and it looks like Fusion is going to be the one. This was a fantastic tutorial to help me find me feet and understand how Fusion does things. Absolutely top work mate. 10 / 10.

Your last Learn fusion 360 in 30 days is how I originally learned fusion, and I feel I am pretty proficient with it now and I have you to thank for that. Many many years ago I took a Cad class in high school, and hated it. Couldn't wrap my head around it. Fusion360 with your tutorial was a night and day difference (that and being able to 3d print the things I design which gives a much greater sense of gratification). But either way, thank you!

I have to start out by saying Im a complete newb! Aa a newb I find this instruction to be worth its weight in gold but at the same time I have to admit, like others have mentioned, it took me 2 hours to complete because of all of the pausing and rewinding. The instructor is amazing but for a newb its a bit fast paced. I found a solution, not exactly rocket science but it worked for me and figured worth sharing. I simply decreased the playback speed of the tutourial video to 50%. Yes it makes the instructor sound like hes had a hard night out at the bar but the slured instructions are easy to follow and my second lession, the glass bottle, went much better. Took me only 40 mins to complete with pauses but nearly no need to rewind. Looking forward to jumping into lession 3 now, the paper clip!

I consider myself a semi-experienced blender user (3 years) and tried using various tools that are created to making CAD possible for Blender. I actually had to make something similar to this for a client and took about a week to figure it out because I couldn't get things to work precisely without having to use my software engineering level thinking.
In the end, I didn't even have a printable object and had to use Natfab to fix the model.
So I honestly can't believe I was able to to it with a free(mum) software in the first lesson. 🤣🤡

You are a VERY good instructor Kevin
It's been 2-1/2 years since I've been in Fusion 360...
You see, I was getting into Fusion 360 and I was moving right along - although somewhat sloppy because I wasn't setting up files the right way...
I just busted right into designing without even using proper constraints sometimes...
Unfortunately I had severe retina problems in both eyes that required a series of surgeries and procedures to get my Eyesite back - it took almost 2 - 1/2 years...
I'm back now and I decided to go back to the basics first - which you teach VERY well...
As a retired Mechanical Designer I can see say that you make everything straight forward...
I'll do things the right way now - the METHODICAL way this time...
I design the interiors for Class B RV's...
    Thanks again Kevin...
    Pete
PS- I am trying to get a STP file or BREF of the Mercedes 2500 - 144 wheel base - High roof to make it easier for me to design...
Do you know of any way of obtaining these drawings?
I don't mind paying for them as it would make my design work a lot easier...

So for this video series, just make one save file and just create "new components" for each video/object, you can toggle all the others days/components off when you start with the next one!

This tutorial is very good. I've been using Fusion 360 a few years, half assed, and I have tried many tutorials to learn more here on You Tube. However, a lot of people, respectfully, keep showing the same stuff, spending incredible amounts of time on the same things, and this guy just shows you how it works, where to find it, and moves on. I like his style, and I'm going through every video he has on this software now. Simple things like telling you "hey, there are two Rectangular Pattern commands, avoid the sketch one, use this one" are great. I've never seen anyone explain this. I for one really appreciate you put the time, effort, and energy into putting these videos out. I mean, seriously, anyone could learn from your tutorials, and literally create a job for themselves. Anyone that doesn't think it is possible without a degree, think again. I work at a machine shop. We're setting up CNC lathes and running all kinds of parts. Well, a friend that works there, he came on You Tube, learned Fusion 360, and then demonstrated his ability at our job. Now he models a lot of our lathe work, and gets paid well for it. So, these videos are super valuable. you can literally elevate your knowledge/skills and specialize yourself for the job you want. A big thank you to you.
I know im rambling, but seriously, I see it as a big deal. Just by following these, practicing, and learning the proper way to use this software through these tutorials, i will no doubt become more valuable at work, increase my wages, and ultimately help my family/children more because of it. Thanks again, it is much appreciated. I hope you succeed in every way bro.

at 8:45, you mention "switch to the direction selector" and I don't have this option. So far everything else has been perfect but not sure if that's different because you are using a Mac or if a recent update removed that option. Not sure where to go from here: Update. I found that the "direction" selector will never appear, however you can proceed with "axis" being displayed and clicking on the edges for the directional adjustments to be made. Then you can continue the demo. Hope this helps others that may encounter this with latest version of Fusion360 / Windows. Thank you, keep up the great work

Excellent video. I've been self-teaching the basics of this program for a while and decided to get some help when sculpting exceeded my abilities to figure out alone. I figured I should start at the beginning. In Day 1 of the series, I learned about shells and rectangular patterns and other things I'd never even thought to try. Unlike some videos, these are clear (not blurry) and the audio and voice work is also clear and well-spoken. It all makes listening to and watching the videos very easy. Keep up the good work.

I have been wanting to get into 3D printing for some time, finally decided to make the jump. Been printing models that others have created just to get familiar with the process. My next step was to jump into learning how to 3D model. Played our with TinkerCAD in the past but recently found your tutorial and I'm hooked. If you were to print multiple blocks, would .3mm really be enough of a gap to make the right fit? What's a good rule of thumb of how much of a gap you'll need between components that snap together?

Hey Kevin (@ProductDesignOnline)! Thanks for this series. I've been using TinkerCAD for a few years and decided I needed to advance to something more powerful, albeit that TinkerCAD has served me well and is a lot more capable than it is given credit for. But I have a few more rings around the trunk than many people, so I did have to have one finger on the pause button all the time 🤣. That being said, I got through the tutorial and actually understood it!
The only thing I would love to see with these tutorials is a summary of all of the measurements so that we can recreate the models after doing the tutorial, as a means of practicing what we've just learnt. My old brain isn't as spongelike as it once was, it is more calcified and fossilised now 😜, so it can take a few times for things to sink in fully, and with a summary of the model's measurements, in the order they're used in the tutorial, it would be a good self-test for those following along to see how well they've learnt the material. But anyway, I've waffled on for long enough. Thanks so much for the tuts, on to lesson 2!

When you use the rectangular pattern feature. How did you know what distance to set? The first number for instance was 24mm. How did you know to use this number, and what exactly is it measuring. Thanks. Great tutorial to follow along.

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  ปีที่แล้ว

Great question! I was referencing a dimensional drawing online. Normally, your dimension will come from a known dimension or by you measuring something - or trial and error in some cases.
The pattern tools allow you to define the overall length OR the spacing between each instance (individual pattern). Both come in handy, depending on what known dimension you have.

Thanks for the quick reply. You set the circles at 3.9 mm from the walls, is there a way to use to rectangle feature to make sure the other circles/cylinders are also that far from walls, for the sake of symmetry. So all of the cylinders in the corners are the same distance from the edge as the first cylinder. I dont want to flood you with questions. Thanks again.

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline  ปีที่แล้ว

@@nbb5026 Not within the rectangular pattern feature, unfortunately. The best way to do so would be to use Joints on individual features OR to create those features in a sketch where you can add those specific dimensions.

Another tip with the rectangular pattern, and why using the solid body part of it is better is it doesn't load fusion down so much. If you have to do a big mesh piece for example the solid body rectangular pattern doesn't lag as much (in my experience anyway) ill be watching the whole series, always something to learn on fusion!

Thanks for the tutorial! A couple of comments that I hope help others.
I got stuck at the 8:45 mark where you said "Switch to the direction selector". I believe it is now "Axes" for anyone else super new to Fusion 360.
I also had trouble at the 9:42 hallowing part. You did not do this, but I did. My Sketch 1 and 2 were highlighted over on the left. I can't articulate why this did not work for the other new folks, but I'm sure you know why. For the others, make sure you only have the Body 1 selected. I'm not sure what it is called but I'll call it the Eye, looks like a football to the left of the word Sketch 1 and Sketch 2.
Gosh, this must have taken me 4 hours to do, but I'm looking forward to doing lesson 2 tomorrow.

I have to say you were the teacher that got me into this. Many years later and stuck on something. I thought who better to ask. Maybe he knows. So here goes. My example. Imagine a wooden box with shallow sides. Ok its filled with fruit brimming over the edges. Now to make a mould for something to fit perfectly above that fruit touching down in all places against it. Fusion has the section analysis which looks like what I want as it passes over things but its not. So using the fruit analogy how to get the shape above it.
