Thanks for such a very well put together setup! I did not know about the feature where a video has to be playing in the background to change the audio settings. That was very crucial for me because I never managed to get that settings to ever be available before
This very informative for Apple TV 4K users because if your tv and soundbar doesn’t support atmos and you switch Apple TV from auto to change audio format it will say are you sure you want to change audio format this will reduce audio quality but might be more compatible, but the fact is it makes it sound better and in my case I have a klipsch bar 48 the Dolby digital logo lights up on soundbar but not when it’s set to auto which is LPCM multichannel I always that that would make it sound better but it’s night and day so thanks Peter for showing us this video. If you do have atmos tv and or receiver then auto setting for Apple TV audio is the only way to get atmos.
Thank you so much for your quality videos, I honestly love watching your videos especially how you test everything and deliver the results without any bias, i also appreciate how you report your results in the beginning although i always watch to the end, sometimes i can take the short answer then come back watch to the end when i have time, keep it up man your channel deserves to be one of the best on TH-cam. A video suggestion would you do a recommendation between the arc or beam for different room sizes, i mean if i have a small living room would the arc be worth the upgrade over the beam? Have a nice day and keep up the excellent effort, it’s much appreciated.
The Samsung automatically adjusts to the movie content. Netflix and or Prime. I set in expert settings the tab under Sound to auto on for Dolby Atmos and then I perform a search in Netflix for movies with Atmos checked my settings and BAM connects. My Samsung is only 4 months old 82 inch Q60r and I was about to purchase a 82 inch Samsung Q90 but changed my mind. Wife got upset 😀😀 Thanks for the video
Hi Peter very informative. I have LG tv however when I play Netflix from my nexus player which connects to the tv via hdmi the output is stereo even though I have ensure that the tv output is not pcm. Playing Netflix from the tv gives me Dolby. I have even went to the extent to get a Eddid but it doesn’t works as well.
The Netflix on nexus might have been checking your tv if it supports Atmos. Seems like your tv does else the Netflix client on the tv wouldn’t have played back in atmos. Just to make sure we have cleared all possible issues, you are sure the nexus is connected via a correct hdmi 2.0 port and the hdmi cable is good right? The next thing you check is the setting on the nexus player. I am unfamiliar with the nexus so I am not sure about the various settings that you can set. You might want to check that. But given that you already know the concept of Edid, I think you probably already checked those.
@@PeterPee Thanks for your reply Peter. Yes i have done the checks on the cables and settnigs. I have managed to fumble around the Kodi app in my nexus to produce the videos playing out of Kodi to have Dolby 5.1 on my beam. However, the Netflix app on my Nexus is still normal stereo. The nexus audio setting is pretty limited though even though it's native android quite unlike the one you demoed with the shield. Guess i would just have to play the Netflix direct from my LG TV. Thanks again!
Hi Peter , can you please share me the latest best sound setting for sonos arc + sub gen 3 + one’s for Sony A80J. Also how to get the full Dolby digital plus or Arnos sound from the TV to arc system ? Can I change any setting on TV to get the Dolby sound through eARC ?

Hi Pete. Awsome vids. Still thinking of whether to take sonos arc or HW Q90r. Was impressed with Q90r and for now its a better value than the ARC. Rear, Woofer included for about the same price. Would like to test the ARC when it is available in stores. Would be great if you could do a follow up list video on the compatibility of 4k tvs(non earc) that is able to out ATMOS to the Sonos ARC. I did a video previously on the compatibility. It combines both the eARC and ARC TVs though. And if you look through the comments, you'd be able to see a listing of TVs that are supported. Linked here : th-cam.com/video/Kvs2Y4lAGUk/w-d-xo.html
I could mention that in my next video. But the idea is to position them within 15 degrees to your side at the listening position, pointing towards you.

Could you do help us with the set up with the LG CX OLED tv? I am trying to look around on TH-cam, but I couldn’t find any one do that set up.

Hello Pete, I orderd a Apple TV 4K, Samsung CU700, and Sonos ARC. Do I plug the Apple TV in the arc port or Sonos soundbar into the EArc port? I know if just using the sound bar and tv, then the arc port is good. I will not be using the tv apps. Thanks.
Is it possible to connect the Sonos arc straight to Apple TV 4K through airplay 2 directly without any physical cable connection ? If so, can you get also Dolby atmos?
Yes you can connect, but it will be in stereo only. Make sure to upgrade your Apple TV 4K to the latest software version. The Arc will show up as an airplay 2 speaker in your ATV4K.
I have a Sonos Arc (+Sub+LS+RS) connected to a Sony Bravia XR via eARC. I also have Apple TV 4K that I use exclusively. Here is my issue: ATV does not allow to set Sonos as default audio (Temporary Audio only). Instead, it switches my audio to Receiver Speakers whenever I watch a different show or switch apps. The problem with this is that both my Sonos & Sony speakers play simultaneously. I do not want my Sony speakers to play since it distorts the overall listening experience. Is there a solution?Thank you.
This should be a setting on your TV. Don't hunt down the path of the ATV. The problem isn't there. I am unfamiliar with Sony TVs but there should be a sound menu inside. Look for something like Sound output. On the LG and Samsung, there is a setting that allows for simultaneous Receiver and TV output or just Receiver output.
That so much Peter! My wife ordered our SONOS ARC + Sub Gen 3 yesterday- hopefully it will arrive this week. How important is adding a pair of One/One SL speakers in a 4.5 * 4.0m room?
You won’t miss it much for now. I’d say hold out for another 3-4 weeks and get used to the Arc with Sub first. Ie, get blown away first.... Then get blown away again when you get the surrounds. I am using surrounds in a smaller room than yours and the leaf surround is just 1.5 feet away from my ears. Not the most pleasant. But if you can place them 1.2m away at least, then it’ll work very well!
I have the Samsung 2019 75" Q80R. Are you aware of the audio lag problem that many people, including me have when using the HDMI ARC port? The audio lag is just slight by noticeable. The Optical doesn't do this. This is a common complain on the the Sonos Community forum and also on the Samsung. Samsung denies any any problem with their TV and Sonos says that they process the signal as fast they get it. (I have the Beam + two One's for L/R surround. )
When you have two parties, one will blame the other. When the party gets to a size of 3 or 4, things start to get really wild! Everyone will say it’s everyone else’s fault. But to be fair here, there might also be a problem with the encoding as well as the bandwidth requirements. Optical carries Low bandwidth. It’s 40 years tech. They probably thought that 1 million bytes was a lot. So maybe for optical there’s a lot less data to deal with so it’s faster without lag.
Thanks Peter! I have the same setup as yours and have come to similar conclusion like you. I get atmos from native samsung smart tv apps but not from apple tv 4k since the format i can pick for apple tv is only DD in samsung TV audio settings and not DD+. Any luck you got DD+ enabled for apple tv 4k or atmos worked with aplle tv 4k?
With the 2019 Nvidia shield you can get Atmos. But again, most of it depends on the audio encoding format on the streaming platform. I was able to get Atmos over prime tv but it was impossible to get Atmos out of Netflix.
Hi Peter, I love your videos on the Sonos products even though I like the Bose slightly more. I've noticed on my Samsung Q60t, I do not even see Dolby option (only PCM and Auto) in the expert settings with or without connected to my bose soundbar 700. Would you know what could be causing it. I checked it with extraction on Netflix. Appreciate your response.
You should select Auto instead of PCM. TV settings are a bit of a Guesswork here. I am not sure why you don’t see the Dolby option. When you playback Netflix, is there any indication that you have Dolby output?
@@PeterPee All I see on Netflix is the 5.1 symbol. Looking at videos of 2019 Samsung models which has dolby options listed categorically, Samsung may have changed it to Auto so the Soundbar picks up the format Automatically. It is just my guess atm.
For Netflix and specifically for extraction, it is Dolby vision and Dolby Atmos encoded. So in a supported setup, you will see both logos on the extraction info page. Looks like the tv is not reporting support back to Netflix.
I got a LG B7. I played thst movie on the Netflix app and changed the sound on my tv from auto to digital plus. Question is. When I'm watching broadcasting tv the settings remaining as dolby digital plus. I get sound but will this affect 5.1 movies or stereo tv shows? I also got the sonos arc. Cheerd
Welcome to the channel! Whether it switches to and fro or not depends on the tv. And whether the tv setting sticks or not is another question. In general it shouldn’t affect as Long as you’re not switching the hdmi ports.
Hi Peter, thanks!! But wat I still don’t understand is if it’s possible to listen to Atmos if you have only a Atmos sound bar. I have an LG led tv from 2018 and a 5.1 one setup with Sonos. But my tv converts internal a digital + signal to a standard 5.1 signal output . Because a Sonos Arc is to expensive I am thinking to buy a lg Atmos sound bar.. oke don’t laugh. But do you know if that works? I can’t find the answer. Thanks Peter. Greetings from the Netherlands.
If it converts a DD+ signal to DD, then I would say odds are it can do Atmos over ARC. My sound goes silent if I feed my TV DD+ as it can only decode DD. I will add this varies TV to TV but bring a 2018 LG model you have a much higher chance.
Hi jisiwa, hello from singapore! As the days pass, I’m more or less confident that the right format of Atmos encoding can actually be played back on the arc properly. I am not sure yet. I never got Atmos to playback on the arc before I tried the files downloaded from Dolby website.
Peter Pee hi Peter thanks for your reply. Yes I have seen in one of your other videos that you had downloaded Atmos files from the Dolby website. You should think (because those file works) that al the other used codes (Netflix etc.)are not in the same format. I have read on a Dutch website that the typical Atmos codecs are within the Dolby digital + signal so that its still compact if it goes over the Internet via Netflix or Disney. I have an Xbox one-s console and I have seen a couple a minutes ago that this console has the option to output Atmos etc so perhaps if you have an Xbox one -s you can figure out if it makes sense to buy an Atmos Playbar or not if you tv has not the right codecs.
@@PeterPee Please considering working Sonos distributor in Singapore to get the compatibility answers cleared. It will be definately benificial for them (can equip their sales team with product knowledge) and info for your channel. Win win situation. Many times i feel that i know more things than the sales team when i am asking questions. (usually electronics)
under speaker setup 5.1, 7.1, is greyed out on Win10, stereo is the only option. Nvidia forums are full of this problem. Not sure if this is a Win or Sonos problem. Maybe the new Sonos LPCM update can correct this, hopefully.
Ah. I see. I am not familiar with a windows setup so I can’t really advice on that. Windows graphics card might not support the full bandwidth required for anything more than 2.0. So it might be a pcm implementation issue on the graphics card.
@@PeterPee I can get atmos when connected to Onkyo receiver, so its definitely the Samsung TV/Sonos Arc combination, im counting on this new update coming to correct this.
Great video series! One question, what difference does it make adding 2 Sonos 1s into the mix ? I have an existing Playbar with 2 Sonos One's as surrounds and i am planning to upgrade the Playbar to Arc keeping the One's as surrounds. Will this enhance the sound or with the new speaker configuration it doesnt make much much difference ?
It definitely still makes a difference. The arc is only able to simulate surround. Nothing Beats having the physical surround speakers. So keep the Ones!
@@PeterPee You convinced me :) I just got the Sonos ARC today. Looking forward to setting it up with the 2 Sonos 1 as surrounds. I will be hooking it with my Sony 65 AG8 series.
I really enjoy your videos. It helped me for my sound settings that fits my needs. Good job. ✌️. It would be great if an hdmi splitter could split output in 2 from Apple TV 4K. My tv won’t let atmos pass too. 🙁
The splitter can split the output. But it won’t put the audio in the ARC Channel. Which is what the Sonos arc is listening to. So no go there. I haven’t tried a splitter that splits audio into arc channel yet though.
Another awesome video Peter! I want to ask you, which is your favorite movie and music / song that shows the best experience of what the Arc and Sub can do?
There is a demo track from Dolby. It’s called nature fury or something. Maybe I should try my best to record the experience down. I am not sure if I can capture the scale. But it’s simply jaw dropping. Other movies are: Max max: fury road 13 hours: secret soldiers of Benghazi Lone survivor Gravity Extraction Inception The mummy (Tom cruise)
Hi Peter, Ive been watching all your videos.. and you indeed have one of the most in-depth reviews. I've decided to buy the sonos arc along with a 55inch Samsung Frame. I have a question though: Sonos Arc only has one HDMI eArc port which can be connected to the TV. But if I also have a ps4 pro, would it be able to pass the Atmos or DTS sound from the TV to the sound bar or will the quality drop?
The Samsung Frame should be able to support all the inputs for Atmos. EARC is also enabled on the Samsung Frame and should get you atmos output to the ARC. The quality should not drop. The reason why I use a lot of “should” is that the dust isn’t really settled and there are quite a few settings which need to be correct in order for it to get Atmos in lossless mode.
@@PeterPee Thanks a ton Peter for that super quick reply. That gives me a lot of peace of mind. I will be sure to set it up properly with all the settings in the tv and the PS4 pro. Also noticed that your patreon account is active now. Will also contribute whatever little I can. Cheers! ,👍
I am having an issue with my setup. I have a 5.1.2 Arc with a Samsung 75” TU8000 which has one eArc input. I use it with Netflix, You Tube etc and it works fine but the speakers get disconnected once the cable box is connected? Any ideas why?
That sounds like a bug. It is not supposed to behave that way. Do you get Atmos when you are on the Arc connected via eArc? Does the cable box pass through PCM signals?
Questions? Vizio tv only has the option for me to select Bitstream or Dolby digital? I'm assuming select Dolby Also would liked to see a video on plex settings if available 😉

Ah ok! Thanks for confirming. What about nvidia shield pro? Or Nvidia shield?
With the 2019 Nvidia shield you can get Atmos. But again, most of it depends on the audio encoding format on the streaming platform. I was able to get Atmos over prime tv but it was impossible to get Atmos out of Netflix.
Hi Peter,
I love your videos on the Sonos products even though I like the Bose slightly more.
Peter pee i have A Philips 803 and sonos arc but how i can listen dolby atmos? Please help
Is the 803 an atmos capable tv with hdmi eArc outputs? If not, please check that you have the digital dolby plus output option checked.
@@PeterPee the Philips 803 is compatible but i have only hdmi arc not earc
How about HTPC Win10 can only get stereo output
Sorry, I am not sure if I get your question?
@@PeterPee Home Theater PC (Win10 connected to TV by HDMI)
Have you ever connected a PC to TV/Receiver. Are you able to get 5.1/Atmos
I have an Xbox one. In itself it’s Atmos capable but I did not manage to get it to output Atmos to the tv and pass through.
What model TV are you using with the LED lighting? is it a Philips Ambilight model?
Hey it’s a Samsung mu6100. I retrofitted the led light strips myself at the back of the tv.
under speaker setup 5.1, 7.1, is greyed out on Win10, stereo is the only option.
@@PeterPee Thanks for the reply!
@@PeterPee You convinced me :) I just got the Sonos ARC today. Looking forward to setting it up with the 2 Sonos 1 as surrounds. I will be hooking it with my Sony 65 AG8 series.
Peter Pee love your videos. If I have the playbar and 2 Sonos ones, should I choose DD or DD+ on the output on the tv ?
Cool! Nice that I am able to share some joy! :)
Other movies are:
Max max: fury road
13 hours: secret soldiers of Benghazi
Lone survivor
Gravity
Extraction
Inception
The mummy (Tom cruise)
Peter Pee thanks! I’ll check the Dolby page.
Cheers! ,👍
Hey there. Thanks and glad that I’m able to help.
Peter thanks for the video
Thank you once again Peter.
Fantastic! Thanks!
Great video again👌🏾
I am having an issue with my setup. I have a 5.1.2 Arc with a Samsung 75” TU8000 which has one eArc input. I use it with Netflix, You Tube etc and it works fine but the speakers get disconnected once the cable box is connected? Any ideas why?
That sounds like a bug. It is not supposed to behave that way. Do you get Atmos when you are on the Arc connected via eArc? Does the cable box pass through PCM signals?
@@PeterPee yes I get Atmos. The cable box is connected to the tv via and HDMI cable. I am not sure why this happens.
Questions? Vizio tv only has the option for me to select Bitstream or Dolby digital? I'm assuming select Dolby
Also would liked to see a video on plex settings if available 😉
Thanks again, Peter!
Hi Pete. In regards to the Apple 4K box. Have a look at this video. They configured differently from the way you’ve done it here.
