Just picked up the sonos beam and i appreciate your help with the best setting for a good sound from the sonos beam gen 2 also I saw your other video and I just picked up 2 Sonos one gen 2 and a subwoofer gen 3
@@Smart-Alex I have just got the beam gen 2 and I also could set up a surround with 2 ones, however our tv is in the corner of square living room, which makes rear placement really awkward for the seating areas. Is yours in a corner, or central to a wall?
Very good video! You could do a update video with the best settings for the sonos system with a sono beam gen2, 1 sub gen3 and 2 ones sl’s as a surroundings.

You release a new video for settings but with two Subs, the diferences with the previews video with just one SUB are sustancial. Or add in the comments the new settings with Heights. With one Sub: Bass: -4 ; Treble: -6; Sub: -5; Heights : No INFO old firmware in the time when you release this video. With 2 SUB: Bass: -2 Treble: +3 ; Sub: -4 ; Heights : +4 Surround: 0 Thank you again for this videos, the Sonos Owner community are very happy with this info. ;)

Are these still the best settings on the newest version of the software? I’m replacing my canton dm50 with the beam 2 because I can’t hear voices or vocals without turning up the volume and then I’m overwhelmed by the rest of the soundtrack.

Hi Peter Very nice video - good job! My Q is: How do you measure the freq responce with/without Speech Enhancement? As I see it the Speech Enhancement is only for TV input so not when the signal is comming from a test signal or other Streaming sevice as music ex Tidal/Radio... My test setup for Freq. responce on SONOS: REW software on a Windows PC - TuneBlade for conneting to a SONOS device This setup works very good
Hi Peter, after watch your video I decided to go with sonos beam gen 2. However currently am having problem that my tv sony kd-55x8000g not able to deliver dolby atmos from ATV 4K last gen to my sonos. Am currently narrow than and plan to change my 2019 tv however afraid pick wrong one and still not able to have dolby atmos even with eArc tv. Would appreciate your advise on which model to go. I still prefer sony due to bad experience on LG and Samsung. Thank you.
Any chance you can help me figure out what I need to change around to have it where I don’t have to Raise the volume when people are speaking but then Lower the volume during loud actions sequences? I’d like to watch movies without touching the volume.
Same for me on the Q90T - Just got the Beam gen 2 - Voice is low, have to have the volume set to 50 to be good enough but action scenes are fucking crazy loud

Hmm. Maybe I'll save up and get the ARC, with sub and some smaller sonos speakers too at some-point OR get 2x sonos ONES, potentially with a sonos FIVE - Deffo start off with adding 2 sonos ONES for the rear left and right

I love the quality of the sound, but as you noted in your video, the dialogue is VERY central. Is there any way of expanding the dialogue somehow? So it's slightly more "distributed" (for lack of a better word). I realize the dialogue is coming from the central channel, but can it somehow be made "broader"? Looking forward to your response!

Do you think these Settings will also work for the older Sonos Playbar i tried doing the Arc Settings but it didnt really work that nice i will try these Beam Settings and hear if these Are Better and My Playbar is connected without a Sub and without Surrounds i hope ill find the right Settings because nobody has a Video about Sonos Playbar because of how old it is.
Hi Peter! Great channel. I have the Beam 2 and one Roam. Would it be worth to get a second Roam? I'm thinking about a surround sound combining this 2 Roams and the Beam but I'm not sure if this is possible. My room is slightly small. I would appreciate the advice!!
You should try making the same settings and then move the surround levels a little plus or minus to fit your preference. Use these settings suggested as a baseline.
I just have the beam 2 and 2 sonos one SL all new ,and the sonos One SL are lagging and don’t stop. I retuned everything and nothing . Don’t know what to do and my internet is fast.

I'm looking to optimise my Beam 2 that I recently got. I primarily play games so instead of Atmos it's on Stereo/Linear PCM through the PS5. Will these settings work regardless or will I have to optimise accordingly? If so what is preferable?
As you are aware dts has now been introduced to the Sonos arc and beam 2, the funny thing is when I change my bitstream dts on my Xbox series x it reverts back to Dolby atmos, Am I doing anything wrong why aren’t I able to select dts without reverting back?

If you need Atmos you need the new Sonos beam gen 2 which was released about half a year ago. The amp or connect and ceiling speaker won’t give you Atmos.

Hard to answer the question objectively without knowing your room in detail but if you’re the sort who will keep thinking about the “if only..” then go for the arc right away.

The surrounds aren't able to configure much more than the levels as well as the range. I'd say you can try to turn on the full range for surrounds if you are into music.

But i noticed for example at the recently released game god of war for PC, when the dialogue is played from surrounds it can't be compared at all with the quality of the dialogue on the beam. As for the environment sounds i can't distinguish much difference. That is the main reason i was concerned for some tweaks. Thanks again for all of your effort.

It's very tricky to enable that if your TV doesn't report the Atmos capabilities. Can you try to enable Apple TV4K's video and audio setting. There is a format section. Set it to Auto, Atmos available.
Really enjoy hearing/watching your opinions/advice and reviews. I have 2 x Sonos Five (theatre speakers) and I'm consindering a Beam Gen 2. Both Five and Beam 2 have similar specs and both are priced at similar cost. Would love for you to review/compare the Five and Beam 2 and hear your thoughts whether Beam 2 or Five would be better suited as music speakers. I will be as some point purchasing a Beam 2 but waiting to see if Sonos upgrades the ARC with Dolby Atmos or not? Thank you for considering my request
Hey if you are listening primarily to music then I say the fives are better. If you’re going for movies, the 3.5mm output from the tv to the fives will introduce lag so the beam fen 2 will be better.

I use the Five's (with Sonos Sub Gen 2 and One SL's as surrounds) with Apple TV, all connected wirelessly (wifi) and all the speakers sound amazing when playing movies with no lag at all. As the speakers are portable I can utilise the Five's (and One SL's) as music speakers around the home with ease. Once again Peter, thank you and appreciate your time and expertise to answer my question.
Shit sucks. I thought it would fix the problem I had with my TV speakers. Where the dialogue is so low and the explosion effects or music is super loud. Same thing only both are now louder
I purchased the beam 2 recently as an impulse buy even though I had researched a lot of sound bars. I do find the sound pleasant and was surprised at the amount of base relative to the size of the bar. However “true play” didn’t sound any different at least to my ears. Surround sound is almost non existent but maybe because the tv is in a corner doesn’t help. Enhanced speech seems to be just a factory eq preset slightly raising the midband and lowering bass
You are spot on how speech enhancement works. I don't believe that a lot of speakers do real dialogue enhancement. But I am very sure if they do allow us to add a center speaker to the setup it will really help!
Hi Peter, it was lucky to find your chanel, I just bought a Sonos beam primaryly use it as external speaker for my MacBook pro 14" via a LG external monitor (27UN880-B), currently the Sonos beam setup with wireless wifi connection, the sound always have 1 sec lag and sometimes it does have bzee sounds for a second which it is quite annoy. Is there anyway that I can get a eARC adaptor in order to use this Sonos beam pair with my setup flowlessly? Thanks Michael
Yes. But you will need an optical output from your MacBook. Buy a dock with an optical out or buy a usb to optical adaptor though that’s quite a bit rarer. Not sure if I can Point out a particular model.

So you are basically saying that trueplay is for nothing :-), don’t get me wrong, but shouldnt it be the trueplay to manage that sound flatten up as much as possible based on your room? I dont get these advices at all
Hi Peter.. I tried your suggestion on my Beam gen 1 via HDMI ARC Dolby Digital… I already had speech enhancement on and loud setting and TruePlay.. When I increased the base to +2 and Treble +4 the speech was hard to hear. I dropped the base to +1 and treble +2 and same issue so I am back to 0 / 0. Just thinking maybe your suggestion would be better on Beam Gen2 I am only getting Dolby Digital and not Dolby Digital + so that might affect things due to the lower bit rate on Dolby Digital. A great test for you to do is.. I presume you don’t get lossless Atmos via Dolby Digital+ on HDMI ARC.. ? That would be an interesting sound test Dolby Atmos on ARC Dolby Digital+ versus HDMI EARC Dolby TrueHD
Great content. Just subscribed. I just picked up the Beam 2 and Sub yesterday. Peter how do you connect REW to measure your Sonos system? I use REW and Umik in my home theater, and connect it to my AVR, but don't have an AVR in my Sonos family room system . Thanks!
You’ll need a laptop and umik connected to the laptop. Or pc if it’s in the Sonos family room. The laptop will need to then output to the tv which is connected to the beam gen 2 through ARC port. Then the sound output will be from the laptop to tv to beam gen 2.

@@AzzBoi81 I added the Ones as surrounds and they're fantastic. It gives greater clarity to dialogue on the centre channel on the beam as well.

Unfortunately there is no setting for the center channel on the Sonos App.
@@PeterPee Thank you for your reply. Would adding a sub "spread" the audio a little? Since those channels then won't be used for the bass?

In general, start with what I have, then bump up the bass for the lack of a sub from there and see how you like each change you make.

For the surround sound effect, this is enough. The Sub won't add to that aspect but it will improve the bass.

As you are aware dts has now been introduced to the Sonos arc and beam 2, the funny thing is when I change my bitstream dts on my Xbox series x it reverts back to Dolby atmos, Am I doing anything wrong why aren’t I able to select dts without reverting back?

Great video. I would love it if you could re-do the Beam gen1 video like this one. I am curious what are the best settings for just the Beam gen1 with trueplay, loudness and speech enhancement turned on. Your previous video suggested turning the bass way down, which didn’t sound good in my environment. Thanks.
I don't understand... was the loudness setting on the entire time? Or did you just turn it on at the end?
Sorry I had to be clearer. The loudness setting was on all throughout as all Sonos system has it defaulted to on out of the box.

If you need Atmos you need the new Sonos beam gen 2 which was released about half a year ago.
The amp or connect and ceiling speaker won’t give you Atmos.

Hard to answer the question objectively without knowing your room in detail but if you’re the sort who will keep thinking about the “if only..” then go for the arc right away.

Hello! Indeed the settings you mentioned made the sonos beam gen2 as best as it can get right now! But a quick question. I have 2 sonos play:1 set as surrounds for my beam gen2. Are there any settings that i can change to make them sound better as sonos beam gen2. Thanks a lot.
The surrounds aren't able to configure much more than the levels as well as the range. I'd say you can try to turn on the full range for surrounds if you are into music.
@@PeterPee Thanks a lot for the reply! I mainly play games on PC and ps5 on my lg cx through earc. But i noticed for example at the recently released game god of war for PC, when the dialogue is played from surrounds it can't be compared at all with the quality of the dialogue on the beam. As for the environment sounds i can't distinguish much difference. That is the main reason i was concerned for some tweaks. Thanks again for all of your effort.

It's very tricky to enable that if your TV doesn't report the Atmos capabilities. Can you try to enable Apple TV4K's video and audio setting. There is a format section. Set it to Auto, Atmos available.
Really enjoy hearing/watching your opinions/advice and reviews. I have 2 x Sonos Five (theatre speakers) and I'm consindering a Beam Gen 2. Both Five and Beam 2 have similar specs and both are priced at similar cost. Would love for you to review/compare the Five and Beam 2 and hear your thoughts whether Beam 2 or Five would be better suited as music speakers.
I will be as some point purchasing a Beam 2 but waiting to see if Sonos upgrades the ARC with Dolby Atmos or not?

Hey if you are listening primarily to music then I say the fives are better. If you’re going for movies, the 3.5mm output from the tv to the fives will introduce lag so the beam fen 2 will be better.
The arc already supports Atmos.

I use the Five's (with Sonos Sub Gen 2 and One SL's as surrounds) with Apple TV, all connected wirelessly (wifi) and all the speakers sound amazing when playing movies with no lag at all. As the speakers are portable I can utilise the Five's (and One SL's) as music speakers around the home with ease.

Shit sucks. I thought it would fix the problem I had with my TV speakers. Where the dialogue is so low and the explosion effects or music is super loud. Same thing only both are now louder
I purchased the beam 2 recently as an impulse buy even though I had researched a lot of sound bars. I do find the sound pleasant and was surprised at the amount of base relative to the size of the bar. However “true play” didn’t sound any different at least to my ears. Surround sound is almost non existent but maybe because the tv is in a corner doesn’t help. Enhanced speech seems to be just a factory eq preset slightly raising the midband and lowering bass
You are spot on how speech enhancement works. I don't believe that a lot of speakers do real dialogue enhancement. But I am very sure if they do allow us to add a center speaker to the setup it will really help!

Hi Peter, it was lucky to find your chanel, I just bought a Sonos beam primaryly use it as external speaker for my MacBook pro 14" via a LG external monitor (27UN880-B), currently the Sonos beam setup with wireless wifi connection, the sound always have 1 sec lag and sometimes it does have bzee sounds for a second which it is quite annoy. Is there anyway that I can get a eARC adaptor in order to use this Sonos beam pair with my setup flowlessly? Thanks Michael
Yes. But you will need an optical output from your MacBook. Buy a dock with an optical out or buy a usb to optical adaptor though that’s quite a bit rarer. Not sure if I can Point out a particular model.

So you are basically saying that trueplay is for nothing :-), don’t get me wrong, but shouldnt it be the trueplay to manage that sound flatten up as much as possible based on your room? I dont get these advices at all
Hi Peter.. I tried your suggestion on my Beam gen 1 via HDMI ARC Dolby Digital… I already had speech enhancement on and loud setting and TruePlay.. When I increased the base to +2 and Treble +4 the speech was hard to hear. I dropped the base to +1 and treble +2 and same issue so I am back to 0 / 0.
Just thinking maybe your suggestion would be better on Beam Gen2
I am only getting Dolby Digital and not Dolby Digital + so that might affect things due to the lower bit rate on Dolby Digital.
A great test for you to do is..
I presume you don’t get lossless Atmos via Dolby Digital+ on HDMI ARC.. ? That would be an interesting sound test Dolby Atmos on ARC Dolby Digital+ versus HDMI EARC Dolby TrueHD

Fair enough! The settings should be tweaked to your own personal preference.
Just got the Beam Gen II. Configured exactly the same. So far so good.
How do I measure the “EQ line” on my own?
You will need a clean usb mic and learn how to use Room EQ software.

You’ll need a laptop and umik connected to the laptop. Or pc if it’s in the Sonos family room. The laptop will need to then output to the tv which is connected to the beam gen 2 through ARC port. Then the sound output will be from the laptop to tv to beam gen 2.
