  • Here is my first part in a series highlighting free library apps and the amazing resources they contain! Today's app: Libby!
    Libby is an awesome app created by OverDrive that features books, audiobooks, and magazines. All materials are hosted through your public library!
    Find the apple and android apps here: www.overdrive.com/apps/libby/
    You can also access Libby through a web browser here: libbyapp.com/welcome
    In any of the above situations, Libby will walk you through the setup of your account with your home library and library card number (have it handy!) and other information like your name and email address.
    Books mentioned:
    Winter Street Series by Elin Hilderbrand
    Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia
    The Westing Game byEllen Raskin
    Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt
    Yes, Please! by Amy Poehler
    City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
    This series is going to aim to give you alternatives to streaming apps. By the end, you may be able to replace Audible, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Apple Music, and others! Stay tuned for part 2, coming soon.

    I really enjoy Libby because you can always borrow a set number of book at a time, and you don't need to wait until the next month to borrow another set of books, unlike Hoopla. I also like that if you have more than one library card for different libraries, you can switch between them. I also enjoy the read with Kindle feature as well.

    Ooo I always use Overdrive! Which is pretty similar to Libby I think!

      Libby is owned by overdrive but I find it much more user friendly! Both have such wonderful collections ❤

    From your experience, is it annoying to wait for borrowing books?
    Maybe for both Libby and Hoopla, if you use it too. I heard we could wait until months.
    I’m planning to get paid library card from OCLS cause I don’t live in America and my country doesn’t have library that support digitalised library like for Libby or Hoopla.

      @randomlibrarian  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never had to wait for a hold on Hoopla, I think most libraries offer simultaneous use on that platform! When it comes to Libby, they have so many things that I want to read and/or listen to that it doesn't bug me too much to wait on a certain book, because another one is always available :) Especially when collections offer "lucky day" holds of popular titles, which is a great way to skip the lines. Hope this helps!

    Do you know if there is a way to donate or sponsor a book/audiobook for a library on Libby?

    • @randomlibrarian
      @randomlibrarian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a "recommend to library" feature! You can find the details here: help.overdrive.com/en-us/0860.html

    What about patrons who live near libraries that do not have many titles. How do you change from libraries on Libby? We have three small towns nearby. It seems each one of the libraries offers different titles. How to do I change from one library to another?

    • @randomlibrarian
      @randomlibrarian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you have a card or e-card from a library, you can add multiple collections!

    • @randomlibrarian
      @randomlibrarian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Underthe center home button, a screen will pop up with notifications and "your libraries" under that section there is an option for "add a library." The big city library near me offers e-cards so that people who don't live near enough for their physical collections take advantage of their online offerings- I am not sure if that is a common process, buti hope so!

    Is it possible to have Libby play thru my car speaker rather than use my iphone earplugs?

    • @randomlibrarian
      @randomlibrarian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You might be able to connect it to your car speakers through Bluetooth, an aux cord, or downloading it as an app (if your car has that capability!) I don't have a car to test on, good luck! 💕

    the idea that a digital copy is in limited supply is really dumb..thanks libraries

    • @randomlibrarian
      @randomlibrarian  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely understand this frustration, but would say more “thanks publishers” since they’re the ones who restrict sharing and make it prohibitively expensive for libraries to purchase DRM-free copies of anything digital 🤷🏼‍♀️
