    I've been practicing librarianship for 7 years in an academic community here in the Philippines. I would appreciate it if you could make videos about employers or schools that offer scholarships for MLIS so that we can qualify as full-time librarians in the US

    Really considering getting the degree what are the steps, do you need the AA first then bachelor's then masters? Or can you just do the masters? I have 8 years experience working at an elementary school as their library media assist.

    i'm in my 30s and only have a high school diploma. do you think it possible for me to become a librarian and how would i go about making changes to my resume to reflect my interests in this field because i truly believe it's the career i want to do for the rest of my life.

      What a wonderful thing, to find the career you want to do- welcome to team library 🥳 I’d recommend asking librarians in your area about how they prepared for/got their jobs! I’ve worked with amazing library workers who joined the team with a similar background- some of whom went on to get their MLIS with the library’s encouragement! Hiring requirements can vary from library to library, so your local teams are your best resource 😊 best of luck!

    This idea of degree to be librarian has baffled me at age 12 when file cards were used. Most people in 70 80s weren't familiarized with them not saying people were dumb, it's that they were aggravating., it was hard for my school librarian, thank God she had me, I was a book shelfer, card filler,broom pusher, trashcan emptier,duster , after two years at 16 i was better that her😂, but she was very pretty. I couldn't wait to see my librarian back then and miss her all the time that was good days. Nothing electronic distracting people pure physical, social and verbal understanding learning interactions where chalk ruled and it's a powerful toolkit for when life around you is going crazy for wifi, cruise control and air-conditioning and you'll know that , and not become a technological crashed zombie . I have good memories and wisdom thank God

My daughter is graduating next year (2025) with a degree in History (minor in psychology) and hopes to attend Simmons on-line MLIS program on the Archives track. We live about 30 minutes north of Boston. She worked part-time in our local library children's room, as well as some research projects through her college and my wife's work. She is VERY EXCITED to continue her studies. Thanks for posting!!!

    Here's a Storygraph feature that I really enjoy, that you didn't show, is that if you go to your stats page and change the month it will show the stats for that month, including what days of that month that you read on. You can also keep track of where you are in a book by page numbers, which is what I always do on both Storygraph and Goodreads.

  • @greysonrome8727
    @greysonrome8727 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really enjoy Libby because you can always borrow a set number of book at a time, and you don't need to wait until the next month to borrow another set of books, unlike Hoopla. I also like that if you have more than one library card for different libraries, you can switch between them. I also enjoy the read with Kindle feature as well.

    • @randomlibrarian

      Hi! I think my best piece of advice is to start- whether that’s volunteering in the library when you can or working part-time, being in the library on the professional side will not only confirm that you like the work, it will set you up for success if/when you pursue the degree. Many of your classes will benefit from you pulling from real-life experience - the world (or in this case, your MLIS) is your sandbox 😊 if you’d like to chat all things library, my DMs are open on insta! Good luck on your librarian journey!

    • @randomlibrarian

      It’s definitely possible, but you’ll either need to obtain a visa yourself or find a place of employment that is willing to sponsor your visa. Prioritise any job listings that don’t list “ability to work in the US” as a requirement. If you have specialised in your studies, this will also assist your application. Good luck!

    How do you get experience while working on your Masters in Librarian Science? What experience you get and how did you go about for finding experience?

    • @randomlibrarian
      @randomlibrarian ปีที่แล้ว

      Mainly, I got experience working as a “library assistant.” Mainly, this term was used to describe anyone working in the library who didn’t already have their MLIS and primarily went to students pursuing their masters (since the towns where I worked were in close proximity to a great program). Other experiences you might be able to get include an internship through one of your classes, working for professors, or volunteering through different clubs at your program (for ex: prison book drives were big volunteering days at Simmons and the club that organized them were actively supporting libraries for incarcerated users year-round). Hope this helps!
