      Hey esoterica (Dr Justin) I want to praise your humor, really underrated. I mean both in the corners of dailybreadtubers like let's talk religion and religion for breakfast there are great academic and fair-minded works, and in the darkfluencers can get really interesting topics and takes... But your dry dark and silly humor is something that goes without mention both in guests and comments.

    It is irresistibly charming when an obviously intelligent and erudite person asks the proper pronunciation of a common word when she is speaking about recondite subjects in her third or fourth language.

      Do you think I can believe her interpretation of the correct pronunciation of the word Jeu sounding as the word joy would in English?
      I'm soon to begin the for baptism rituals described in the text and I think the pronunciation would be important.

    Ive had the pleasure of working with Dr Dzwiza through her kickstarter. She is genuinely passionate about this work, super willing to answer questions and share insights. I named one of the magic signs she had offered (an anti demon sign) and she took the time to compile some information for me on my sign, how it was used etc. Very thoughtful and just generally a pleasure to deal with.

    The part around 39:00 that brings up the side-notes, marginalia, and contradictory instructions reminds me of something very familiar: modified food recipes! I have all sorts of notes written in cookbooks, often don't bother crossing out steps I already know to skip, and might leave in contradictory advice or failed substitutions for reference later on. Delightful to get the sense that these ritual references may have been modified in similar ways from practitioner to practitioner, or even within the lifetime of a single magic-user.

    Interesting, there is a headless Goddess among the 10 Tantric Goddesses of Hindusim, she is named "Maa Chinnamasta" and her image is quite terrifying to the lay person. The Tantric system is based on the divine feminine and is the equivalent of the Gnostic teachings of the West. The Tantric system is where the Kundalini/Shekinah teachings with all it's spells/mantras of Mukta(Liberation) as wells as worldly desires fame, wealth, destruction of enemies known in the west as "Left Hand Path" practices. The Low Status of Women a theme in western traditional esoteric practices is a theme that bars entry to the Paternalistic religious & philosophy of both East & West academia. I am exploring the Kabbalistic connection between Western Magic & Vedanta philosophy. The 10 Goddesses of the Dasa-Mahavidya align with the 10 Sephiroth which align with the 10 Bode Orbital planets & the 10 Goddesses. Neptune (Kali), Uranus (Bagalamukhi), Saturn (Dhumavati), Jupiter (Kamalatmika), Ceres/Moon (Tara), Mars (Bhairavi), Earth (Maa Chinnamasta), Venus (Tripura Sundari), Mercury (Matangi) & Sun (Bhuvaneshvari). The 22 letters of the sacred Phoenician/Hebrew alphabet align with the 22 Shruti Notes of Classical Indian Music. The Pi ratio closest approximation using integers of 22/7 points to the alignment of a Theory Of Everything uniting all physics which I am pursuing. The Ten Goddesses are the combination of the 3 main Vendanta Goddesses, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Parvati Archetypes combined as 3 doubles (6), 1 Triple(3) and 3 (3) single avatars to give a total of 12 archetypes of the Zodiac added to the 10 t give 22. Meditation on the symbolism of Maa Chinnamasta shows the unique path we experience on the Earth School.

    Magic from the ancient past was based in symbolism but it's not relevant enough to compile together? That's like saying language is irrelevant so we don't need dictionaries. Magic symbols are like a universal language for Magicians.

    Listening to y’all talk about “ring signs” and how pervasive those are is crazy for me as a practitioner, those signs look very similar to signs I use in my magick that I’ve collected from meditation. I had no idea anyone else used signs that look like that, them calling on a higher power and not a god/spirit tracks too. They usually represent concepts when I use them like justice, healing, revenge, karmic return. Broad concepts, like calling on an archetype almost. I’m EXCITED about that kickstarter.

    Maybe the 'heart girt/encircled with a serpent' wasn't intended as this great poetical notion, maybe it was just magical shorthand for the Heart-Shaped name referenced in PGM II 64-183, written inside an ouroboros serpent?

    • @TheArchaeologyOfAncientMagic
      @TheArchaeologyOfAncientMagic ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is an amazing thought I totally missed! You mean "My name is a heart ..." is meant as an instruction concerning how to write the name: in the shape of a heart, which is attested multiple times in the Greek magical papyri, among increasing and decreasing winged shapes of writing names and vowels and other shapes, and encircled by, as Dr. Sledge suggested, an Ouroboros. This would make a lot of sense. Thank you for sharing your inspiring idea! I'd love to share this on Twitter and include it in my future work, how can I reference or refer to you?

      @bcask ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheArchaeologyOfAncientMagic You are very welcome (btw you can refer to me as Darren Grant, if you want). Glad you found it useful. Not that amazing, though, considering the use of phrases like 'You, I adjure, God's seal' or 'You I adjure God's signet,' I just read it as a shorthand reference to the complex shape of the name rather than this full-blown deep meaning that Crowley et al ascribe it with.

      Finally finished (watching the video, not organizing my Pathfinder portraits). A lot to take in. This is the second interview I've heard with Dr. Dzwiza, and her sincere enthusiasm for the material always shines through. I feel you two left each other with new things to think about, I know I have a lot to think about.
      The thing about the decans is extremely interesting, and it's never come up in my reading of the Akephalos. I've often wondered if "the Headless One," like a lot of Greek deities, was both a title and thing in and of itself (like how there was a goddess named Nike, but then you have Zeus Nike. Not a syncretic god, necessarily, but maybe). I also have a lot of sympathy for the idea of the Akephalos as an executed criminal, even though I recognize it's not likely.
      Anyway, you guys put a lot of work, and I think all of the viewers can appreciate it.

    I'm very curious as to why there seems to have been a huge interest in Crowey and rituals that came his way through the Golden Dawn in the last year. Twenty years ago as a kid I knew Crowley as the bald weirdo that all the Goth kids worshipped and who made them feel tough when they were getting bullied around, but they really didn't know anything of Crowley's work or anything of the Occult. Last year for reasons I can't explain I became fascinated with Crowley, read some of his works which led me to other older works. What I find fascinating is the amount of material that has been posted on the internet in the past year alone. Why is this? Is there some sort of Reemergence of a Golden Age if Magick?

    The journey continues. So much perspective and actual data provided here this 3hr. I'm immensely grateful. The name Akephalos appears Egyptian, appears in temple, papyri and from knowledgeable hands of their time as scribes/practitioner(s).
    What I find interesting in this the headless having nothing above the shoulder, and others having 5, 7 or more, what's described as eyes, snakes etc. This perhaps specifying the particular daemon, deity, attribute or Archetype called upon. Having None perhaps being the highest, the Creator God(mother/father), the Adamic, or Adonai highest in Creators under the AbsoLutE.🤔 The two 📚 s IAO, Bruce Codecs I think would be an excellent video. This Magik describes the Treasury of Light, Jehoshua Magik and gives the Three Baptisms (each with it's own Ringlet Sigil). 3 baptisms not One as provided by the Church

There's ofcourse George Battaille's l'Acephale - too modern to help your determiniations -philospher, anarchist, anti-fascist - in his symbolism it denotes no leadership - so it could indeed be sabbatical year for a priest, or the freedom from the kha(ba) and the thoughtbody (that needed to be controlled strictly to lead a fulfilling (after)life...name doesn't pop up in my head (huh) om the fly. Also, for some reason they have found in really old homes in Europe and also America where people hid a single shoe , usually a child’s shoe, inside the wall for protection from something. I am wondering if it’s all related to this headless god. I am also wondering if the origins of the Cinderella story where the prince will only recognize her by her foot then he will take her is also all tied into this some way. Something that I've learned from using a Strong's is that English completely and utterly butchers Hebrew and Greek complexity. I've seen so many words that have completely different meanings translated as the same word in English. Also sometimes it seems like the word that something is translated into deprives it of all the other definitions that the original language had embedded in that one word.

      @The Archaeology of Ancient Magic & Ritual Practice with the ecliptic (and thereby each of the astrological planets) passing just above it, I tend to agree with an astro magician colleague of mine, Andrew B Watt, that it's association with this ritual seems persuasive enough for magical-work, given the various associations with this being's apparent authority over the hosts of the stars. I'd be very interested if there are any academics making that link, and how they find it.
      Thank you so much for this interview! I'll definitely be looking at the original manuscripts for further PGM work, now that I know they are mainly available online! I'd been making-do with Betz and Dr Skinner's complimentary "Techniques..." book.

      Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking...Gordon White's discussion of the headlessness of Orion, and the occurrence of such at Gobekli Tepe and elsewhere in his book Star Ships was what resonated with me when I heard the discussion of the decans connections here.
      I also know the "chest-heads"/Blemmyae (as they are called in Pliny the Elder's Natural History, and in a number of other texts, like Dioscorus of Aphrodito's fragments on a "Blemmyomachy" that--if I am remembering correctly?--is associated with the Emperor Trajan in some fashion, though of course written several centuries later, since I believe Dioscorus wrote in the 5th/6th century).
      This is exciting stuff, certainly! Thanks, Dr. Sledge, and Dr. Dzwiza! If I can find some way to assist with this work, I would certainly like to do so. I've written a few smaller pieces on particular PGM names and formulae in various places, (e.g. what voces magicae/nomina barbara are associated with Ereshkigal) in a few different places, so if it would be useful to have those things, I can definitely provide them. And, I will eventually have some more work on certain matters of relevance to the PGM in the next year, if all goes well...!?! I also used to know some people involved with database creation, and it would be great to see if they'd be interested in working on some of what is discussed here, as it probably wouldn't be too difficult or time-consuming for them, though I don't know their rates or availability currently.
