"The wall is permanent, you are not." I just about died laughing- brings me back to the time I was just figuring out how to skate without having to push myself along the wall, only to crash back into it. The wall is truly your friend, I guess.
Where I skate indoors theirs this barrier that’s super sturdy and I always just run into it with my skates and it makes the loudest noise LOL but it’s fun
@Jess Probably one of the many chronic internet complainers, who are loose at the lips and sassy behind a keyboard. And more than likely someone who doesn't skate and wants attention. These videos are here to help or improve skating. With all that said, Dirty Deb keep doing the damn thing.
100% this! I love the attention to detail and how thorough she is! It's so helpful to not only explain and show the mechanics, but to explain the physical and mental reasons behind WHY these are the best tips. Love these videos!
Dirty I love how you "go on and on" explaining stuff! You've been my absolute best coach on my journey back into skating. I haven't skated since my early 20's. I'm now 52. You have been an amazing teacher! Thanks!
Marquita Mason woah I love roller skating, and I only started roller skating since 2017 and I’m ## and she is an amazing teacher and I bet if you wanted to you could coach anyone! Keep skating!
Same I used to Skate as a kid. I’m a grown ass 35 year old man now who was wobbly knees and terrified getting back on. Her videos got me rolling again with ease! Totally one of the best on TH-cam.
Hey deborah! Im a 13 year old and i just recently started skating. I never got the courage to go out on the skate floor until new years eve. I went out on the skate floor and it was pretty fun! The floor was pretty slippery. You gave me the courage to do all of this! I love your videos. I hope you have a good 2020!
I love how connected and supportive the whole roller skating community is, like literally every skater I’ve talked to has been down to give me pointers or come skate with me. It’s been super fun!
The two ways I stop are trying to step off the rink onto carpet falling over and using my face like a toe stop. The other is plowing into a kid that cuts in front of me and use the kid like a toe stop. After watching this video, now I know there is a better way.
OMG! getting down on one knee (with knee pads on) was a lifesaving tip on how to stop for me! Teaches balance, how to fall and requires 0 skill. It's weird cuz it sounds like its gonna hurt but seriously, anyone out there who hasn't learnt this: Shift your weight to one foot then slowly and controlled kneel down to come to a stop like you are proposing 🙌
I took my 11 year old daughter today for the first time. She was so embarrassed she wanted to give up . Her eyes were holding back tears because she felt like she can never get it right . After watching your videos , she is ready to go back and keep trying and get as good as you! Thank you for this tutorial 😊
Actually knowing how to use the toe-stops is so helpful! I was so scared of them as a kid because I thought you were supposed to go tip-toe and I always ended up falling flat on my face. Very nice to know what I was doing wrong and how not to continue doing that.
My mom warned me of that very thing and I was too scared to even try my toe-stops as a kid. 40 years later I am re-learning how to skate and this video is a revelation. So *that's* how they work! Not sure whether to laugh or cry.
Aunt Dirty you explain skating so well, we thank you! I must admit, I was a little disappointed because you never mentioned 'snacks or snack area' during the whole video. It always puts a smile on my face when practicing and reminds me focus on my posture. Can you do a video on stopping with two feet while going backwards please? I love when you do it. I don't have stoppers so can you show with and without stoppers.
❤️! I LMAO when she said to position your body like when you sit on a porta potty...you know when don’t want to commit to sitting on a porta potty position
I have just bought a pair of skates and these videos are the MOST helpful and straight forward thing I’ve watched - massively grateful for these thank you!
Dirty Deborah Harry you are the best skating teacher. 45 & first time on skates since a kid and love learning from your videos. I will never not call it my 'snack area' now!
I just got skates last night for the first time since I was younger. Back then, I was on blades. Now I'm mid-20's, fat, and definitely not balanced, so I got these. I'm not doing anything till my elbow, knee, and wrist guards get in, but this is very useful. Thank you!
I’m absolutely loving you short, straight to the point no BS tutorials! Also your personality shines! Super entertaining too. Great work! You taught me how to skate. Thank you!
Bruh, that was perfect. Very clear and taught me I have been trying to use my stops backwards. I feel like my confidence just went up dramatically. 50 points to Gryffindor
She makes everything look so easy Roller skating is kinda like ice skating but on the ground and trust me ICE skating is soo fun but extremely hard ok Trust me I have tried it
I used to skate when I was a teenager, then I stopped, years later I went ice skating and I could do it 😍 then returned to roller skates and I can balance well, so my guess is the 2 are similar, as long as you can balance you are good
That’s crazy because to me I’ve been trying to roller skate for years but I was a natural at ice skating… got it in less than 10 mins and could even do a few tricks within my first session. Roller skating on the other hand, I can’t even stop myself from falling back🤣
I've had my skates for about two and a half weeks now, and today I turned around a corner on my basketball court that I use to practise! I skate from one side to the other then sit down or stop for a break, til I do all four sides. I am so exhausted from doing half an hour but I just keep going. My only skills are turning corners by shifting my feet and skating using the in out foot method shown in your skating outdoors video. I will keep watching and try to improve my technique. Thanks.
I was skating around a parking garage yesterday and when I grabbed onto a pole at some point I thought "Is this a real way to stop? It seems like it is and I should know other ways as well, but if I do it safely, why not?" There was a pile of sandy debris nearby that I wanted to avoid and simultaneously power through. As a kid I was invited to roller rink parties and would get laced up and never left the wall (and totally did the "walking on skates" thing, getting nowhere), so there's a little of that sneaking into my head....But 30 years later I'm doing way more than I ever did then!!! The fact that I can spend 30 min away from the safety of a wall is an accomplishment that I don't always acknowledge, even if I skate into a wall in the end!
When she said put your knees over your big toes my weight training anxiety immediately triggered. When she followed up and said “you wanna get in the one position you never wanna be in in the weight room” i had to subscribe 😂 she definitely knows her shit
Deborah sees this last training of mine and as I am getting up faster, here it was still without having your class so complete about the immersed ways in which we can get up. Now after learning faster I will be. It is at 9 seconds and 17 that I fell Deborah, see the link. Now after I have learned faster I will be up.
Thank you for noticing! :) I am trying my best. Sometimes I get mad at myself and say "damn it! I forgot to say look over your shoulder!" I then just have to hope that skaters get it :)
Ok Debbie, whoever said your videos are too long or whatever are gonna catch these hands!! I love that your videos are extremely long and thoroughly explained because it cuts down on the amount of questions that need asking so no one will spam your inbox. And your channel. Please don’t listen to them and keep the videos long and exhaustive!! I LOVE IT WHEN YOU TOOK 30 MINUTES TO EXPLAIN STOPPING AND SKATING I LEARNED HOW TO SKATE BECAUSE OF THAT!🦄🦄💓💞💕❣️
Thank you for making those short and precise vids. I haven't been skating since i was around seven years old.. im 26 now. So i'm a beginner and NEED precise and easy learning steps! You look amazing btw. I could look at your footwork everyday. It looks so fluent and beautiful!
I'm going skating for the second time ever (three years after the first, you gotta love covid) only this time with some friends and a lot more anxiety. Your videos put me at ease, and make me feel so much more comfortable with the idea of skating and being out there on the rink among other people. Thank you so much for posting these videos and helping others gain their confidence in skating!
Thanks for these vids! I got roller skates for Christmas, but at 25 I’m afraid to get hurt and pay my deductible. This gives me a little more confidence to get started!
Thank you!!! Sharing this NOW! LOL A couple of my friends just started coming to the rink this week. One hasn't skated in almost 40 years (he's 67), and another is used to inlines (the whole "no back break" thing confuses her a little - she's getting it, rolling at a fair speed, but is having a little trouble making that adjustment with stopping). Hopefully this will help both of them. :)
@@pirateyarn6331 Being in shape has nothing to do with it. I can - and actually HAVE - tripped over the painted lines in parking lots! Sad, and slightly pathetic, but true. LOL In gymnastics when younger, after a few months, my coaches wouldn't let me on the balance beam. I ALWAYS fell off, just walking down it. (I don't even remember them letting me try a cartwheel on it.) I don't know how I can skate to begin with, but I do it. As for the balance, don't forget to practice off skates, too! Go into your kitchen bathroom, or by your dining room table. Practice on both sides. just lift one leg up, just a half inch or so off the ground, with all (well, most of) your weight on that leg...put a hand on the counter/table if you feel wobbly. Repeat with the other leg. Then, try with one leg off the ground in front of you...then repeat with one leg off the ground behind you. Once you're comfortable doing that, put your skates on and repeat. Then, roll slowly (on carpet at a rink or in your home) to practice while on your skates and moving. You'll get there! :) P.S. You can actually buy a back break for roller skates. At the time of this comment, only $17. www.derbywarehouse.com/Sure-Grip_Back_Brake/descpage-SGBBRAKE.html If you'd prefer to switch, at least for a little bit. They will fit MOST skates, not "only" the Sure-Grip brand, but I'd still email them first, just to double-check that they will fit whatever skates you have if you're not running a Sure-Grip skate.
I have a brand new pair of Riedell. Learning on them. I have the bone wheels and the barrons with it. Haven’t skated in years. Your channel is very informative
Just went to a skate night for my son's school, and I haven't skated in maybe 35 years, and my son was a first timer. These tips were so helpful! We had a great time, thank you!!
Your a great teacher Debbie.I’m a bit creaky now I’m a 60 year old window cleaner 40 years working so I’m trying to recreate a bit of nostalgia from my teenage roller disco days when I could skate backwards and do crossovers etc.I’ve been outdoors at moment up by the sea.I can do a flip round turn to stop now Keep up the entertaining style .cheers.Steve in uk x
Thanks for the vid! Just bought a pair of skates, and haven’t regularly skated ever. Did it once or twice a year growing up, but not to the point where I was outside! I have helmet, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads, and there’s a lovely tennis court with few people who use it when I will be! Woooo!
As much as I love your detailed videos, this one was brilliant. Quick, but still explains enough, nice music, well edited and I don't think I heard the annoying machine in the background. I'm excited for more videos like this. :D
I never try new things and I was too motivated to give skating a shot when I took my daughter for her first skating lesson and within 5 mins, I had a fall and a fractured tail bone. I so wish my instructor was at least half as good as you and it would have saved me lifelong trouble. I took my younger kid to the rink the first time yesterday and watching your video has given me the confidence to give it a shot one more time. Thank you so much for such wonderful, detailed instructions. I am yet to find an instructor who gives even 25% info out of what you gave.
I've been dreaming about having roller skates since I was 10 and now here I am after 15 years I've got mines.. 25 years old, totally beginner, seeking just one helpful channel to learn basics yet only sees roller skates TikToks or how people improved over 6 mouths etc.(no, I'm not jealous at all)(maybe just a..)(whatever:) Finally, I found this channel.I can't explain how grateful I am🙇🏻♀️
First video that came up when I searched "How to stop." Super helpful, thank you! Just bought some cute retro skates at an antique/thrift show and hoping I can get more comfortable with them!
I just got my first pair of Roller Skates today and came across your video's. They're so helpful! I'd already started out wrong so I'm so glad I've come across your Channel to correct myself and learn. Thank you!
Wow. This is the only skating video on TH-cam that I didn’t have to fast forward through! Not only was she quick and right to the point, she is so funny and entertaining to watch! Love from Florida! Just bought skates 👍😃
I see two different series here. The long and the windy, which i love for all the details and the quick and the dirty for the omg just do it this way already!
I love all your videos-long and short. They are always so informative. Have to say, the intro beat on this one was really catchy. Makes me want to put my skates on and groove along with it😎
I usually only use in-line skates (not the best skater either) and i always wanted to learn regular roller skates so i watched a ton of your videos and hit the rink with my friends and you helped me so much!! 1 hour in and i already stopped using the wall and my adrenaline was pumping and i felt so confident. it was amazing and so freeing. (honestly surprised i didn’t fall). you inspired me to buy my own skates and really try to learn how to be a good skater. thank you so much and please keep on making more videos :)
You're awesome and make every lesson fun. I lived on my rollerskates in the late 70's , early 80's. Just bought my daughters rollerskates (because of covid and staying home), im a terrible teacher so I appreciate you so much! Thanks for making this more enjoyable than i could have ever imagined. 🤗👍
@@Dirtydeborahharry Thank you very much, my kids are older however my niece and nephew (we bought them rollerskates too) are staying with us now and are very interested they are both 11 years old though...any classes for 11 and up? Ty again for all your informative and comedic videos. You make learning fun
I soooo love your energy!!!! I recently just got some skates... trying to add it to my acting resume. I’m being a little daredevil by teaching myself so that you for this ♥️
I actually got a pair of rollerskates today as a way to cope with not being able to ice skate for the past year. After I watched your video I realized it's still very similar to when I ice skate. I was just a little bit nervous about using toe stops but your video was super straight to the point and I feel a bit more confident when I go practice stopping later!
I’m saving up for some protective gear and some Impala quad skates. I’m here to remember the stuff I tried to learn a year ago at the rink. Love your energy! Thanks a bunch!
I love your personality sooo much, thanks for these videos. I'm feeling quite depressed and am thinking of taking up roller skating to meet some friends. Sending you love and thanks from the UK.
Hey Dirty, thank you for these videos! 💚 I’m 24 and never learned how to roller skate. I randomly had flashbacks to middle school/high school of when I would go to the skating rink with friends just for me to sit and watch my friends skate because I never got the concept down and gave up. I had the sudden urge to learn lately because it looks so much fun and want to know what I’ve been missing out on 😆❤️ I’m excited for my roller skates to come in and practice
You got the best skate videos! I feel like she's my personal coach lol. I like this skate channel compared to the other skate channels i've watched so far.
Hey Deborah!, I started learning how to roller skate in march 2022 with a portuguese roller derby team. I’m a beginner skater and this week I receive my bont quarstart skates. Yesterday I bring my new skates to practice with the roller derby team and in the beginning I was struggling with stopping, with plow. I was able to stop with toe stop. I didn’t play any jam because I’m getting to know my skates.
Thanks for the video! I’ve been roller skating for years inconsistently and the way I’ve always stoped is either losing all my momentum slowly but surely or just crashing(which is really scary when you’re going down a big hill and you know you have to stop before the bottom cause there’s a road). I’m gonna practice these techniques and hopefully avoid injury!
Dont worry about talking much,....we love it...and its how you are so who doesnt like it can find another channel...thank you for your videos...im learning a lot
I was doing this before I saw some of your videos, and leaned my top half too far and did a double knee slam into the cement! yeaouch! Your tips helped!
I’m in the market for my first pair of skates since I was a kid! And these videos are so helpful! I can’t wait to be able to apply these lessons in person! Y

I love it when you go on and on about one topic! Best, most thorough skating teacher on the net! Thank you DDH!
Thank you. I really appreciate that.
I’ve always wanted to try roller skating cause it looks so satisfying and I just wanna try a new hobby that would be fun and active :)
You found it!
You are the best teacher and skater. I can’t wait to learn and be a ballerina skater. Thank you for inspiring me!
Yes! Exactly! :)
It’s my 4th day rollerskating and I learned how to do toe stops thanks to this video!!! You’re the best
That is awesome!
Thank you so much! Just bought my first ever skates. (as a 34 year old)
Love from Scandinavia!
Thank you!! This video is so helpful. I had just started today and when I tried to do a toe stop I kept falling! 100% needed this.
Glad it helped!
I love all your videos-long and short. They are always so informative. Have to say, the intro beat on this one was really catchy. Makes me want to put my skates on and groove along with it😎
the song & what you say at the beginning fit perfectly together like a song
Thank you lady for teaching me things I should have been taught 23 years ago when I got skates for the first time!
(honestly surprised i didn’t fall). you inspired me to buy my own skates and really try to learn how to be a good skater. thank you so much and please keep on making more videos :)
i got the moxi beach bunny and i’m so excited for them to arrive this saturday
I’m on the fifth day of skating and just when I saw this video I was able to stop! Thank you so much, your videos are helping me A LOT!!!!
If your kids are under 10 - I have a Zoom class for them this Saturday! online.rollaskateclub.com/pages/live-events
@@Dirtydeborahharry Thank you very much, my kids are older however my niece and nephew (we bought them rollerskates too) are staying with us now and are very interested they are both 11 years old though...any classes for 11 and up? Ty again for all your informative and comedic videos. You make learning fun
Thanks. I just bought some new skates. I haven’t skating in ages. This was helpful.
I soooo love your energy!!!! I recently just got some skates... trying to add it to my acting resume.
I’m being a little daredevil by teaching myself so that you for this ♥️
"maybe its a car. hopefully it's stopped -"
Deborah thanks for sending me your video on the skating theme that I asked you for.
It will help me a lot to improve.
This is the kind of teacher I need for everything I learn!!!!
You are my favorite omg! You are single-handedly teaching me to skate. And cracking me up constantly
I'm so glad!
Literally just bought skates today and I couldn’t figure out how to use the toe stops. This video is exactly what I was looking for 😊
I actually got a pair of rollerskates today as a way to cope with not being able to ice skate for the past year. After I watched your video I realized it's still very similar to when I ice skate. I was just a little bit nervous about using toe stops but your video was super straight to the point and I feel a bit more confident when I go practice stopping later!
my skates just came in today & your videos are saving my life!!! i can’t wait to skate here once quarantine is over
Glad you like them!
Thank you sooo much for helping me with your videos!!! I got my skates today, and I just started watching you, but I can't stop!!!
1. Love your energy 2. Remind me of Melissa McCarthy
I love both types of videos, quick and long. Thank you for both!!
I love your videos I always watch them to skate good
You're an incredible teacher. I really feel like I'm in the room learning with you!
Do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for showing the plow stop!! My toe stops are terrifyingly high and I'm just not steady enough to use them yet!
Hey Dirty, thank you for these videos! 💚
I’m 24 and never learned how to roller skate.
Are you skating yet😂? ..I wanna try to at 46 years old
@@goldmouth100 I haven’t skated in a long time but I kind of got it down 😁
You got the best skate videos! I feel like she's my personal coach lol. I like this skate channel compared to the other skate channels i've watched so far.
Glad you like them!
This video makes me want to start roller skating again!
We love Dirty Deb and we LOVE planetrollerskate
We love you!
She’s a genius !! Currently waiting for my roller scates to arrive. I’m confident
Skates “”
Hey Deborah!, I started learning how to roller skate in march 2022 with a portuguese roller derby team. I’m a beginner skater and this week I receive my bont quarstart skates. Yesterday I bring my new skates to practice with the roller derby team and in the beginning I was struggling with stopping, with plow. I was able to stop with toe stop. I didn’t play any jam because I’m getting to know my skates.
You are the best instructor! You get right to the point you’re funny and you’re considerate of other peoples time!!😂😂❤❤
Thanks for the video!
I friggin love your methods of teaching something So FUN!!
I was doing this before I saw some of your videos, and leaned my top half too far and did a double knee slam into the cement! yeaouch! Your tips helped!
Wish I lived closer to take personal lessons but this will have to do!! Thanks for all the amazing energyyyyy ☮️💗 🛼
She cracks me up!!! I just love her! Now I found a video tutorial for skating ♥️
I’m in the market for my first pair of skates since I was a kid! And these videos are so helpful! I can’t wait to be able to apply these lessons in person! Y
