      Haha GN should totally to a Review of T Shirts from theirs and other Tech channels merch stores. Test for things like sweat and water absorbancy, dry-ability, strech-ability, tear-ability, and cat-ability.
      Then have a T shirt with tech channel logos saying they participated in the GN T-Shirt Review 2020 (or something catchy) All proceeds from t shirt sales and that month goto getting more trees planted since so many burnt down in USA.

    I've long been a big fan of GN's reviews and general editorial policies, but the explicit remarks about the value of keeping old hardware running, not buying something just because it's new and shiny but buyinng if what you have is no longer serving your needs really, really cemented the absolute excellency of GN as a review site. Nobody else comes even close. Reviews that explicitly counteract their implicit "look how cool this new shiny thing is, maybe you should buy it" message are so so so so so sorely needed in this industry. Thank you.

      He should be doing Review's Masters classes. Although i'm a little disappointed with the conclusion section. In older video's Steve would take all data and results and use that to give us insights on the product. In particular he'd make statements about the value, whether the data supported the manufacturers hypbole and if the product was of particular note. Comparisons with the competitors and if there was any recommendation to purchase it.
      It would seem to me that this review should have concluded that the 30 series cards have incredible value, not seen for several generations (perhaps you'd have to go back to the 8800 GTS/GT/GTX range for something that provided the customer with a great bang for buck).

    23:40 Re performance regression at +100/900 OC, GDDR6X has error-correction features built in, so unlike traditional VRAM, which will artefact or crash when the overclock is unstable, the GDDR6X will resubmit transfers if it detects errors. This may lead to performance being slower than at stock, because you are getting bottlenecked by the memory.
    If you have a software tool to test GPU VRAM latency (eg perhaps a timing call in Cuda or OpenCL), you might be able to show this behaviour when the memory is pushed too far.

    I've got friends who are not tech savvy at all and just casually play games (not even demanding games) on their PC's, and all of them are panicking thinking they NEED a 3090 or 3080 or somehow the world will end. And they panic even more when hearing about the low initial supply, these are people with builds from 2014 and older who seem to think the the 3080 is the next coming of *Insertreligiousfigure* and being without one make the lesser beings (I might've exaggerated a bit, but still its absolutely ridiculous.)
    One of them has a 1080p 60hz monitor and an i7 2600k and he is losing his shit because he needs a 3080.

      @ISOHaventhat's cool and all but OP's point was that nvidia has somehow set a raging panic on the market, that has somehow convinced people that they NEED a new rtx 3xxx card, DESPITE, many of these people being bounded by monitor limits and cpu bottlenecks. Ex, somebody with a sandy bridge i7 and a 60hz 1080p monitor somehow believes they need the new cards, when in reality, their current setup won't even allow the new cards to break a sweat. It's essentially, a misplaced and false panic

    • @indianboy0453
      @indianboy0453 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @ISOHaven when did I say that it was nvidia's fault? I never said there is someone to blame here. Here's a basic summary of what fundamentally said. Nvidia launched a new product. Because of the press material and previews, people reacted as they usually do. Panic. A sizeable number of people freaking out most likely have no need for these cards because they don't have the gear to justify using such card. Since nvidia is the only company that is releasing a card as of right now, the only entity we can trace this unreasonable reaction to is nvidia. But does that mean nvidia should be held responsible for peoples irresponsibility? Absolutely fucking not. I NEVER said nvidia should be held liable for peoples panic. You misinterpreted my comment and pulled words out of the void. Words that I never said. Did you also miss my last sentence? I said "misplaced and false panic", referring to the ridiculous reaction.

    The regression in FPS lows when overclocked is interesting. We know Ampere uses ECC, so it seems plausible that this could be a sign of an unstable overclock. It retries whenever it has a memory error, so any frame with a lot of memory errors would presumably be held back quite a bit even if the frequency increase is still driving the average FPS up.

      Most of this information is practically useless to your average consumer. Most of the time all people want to know is how it performs in games in comparison to current cards. Though I give him props because it's good to have some who go this in depth compared to none. But it's never a good idea to only use a single source for information regardless of how in depth they go.
      If he was to ever get a faulty part and his numbers were off due to that, you wouldn't know unless you watched/read other benchmarks. Sure, he would obviously make a correction after the fact, but that's just one example of why you shouldn't just use a single source.

    LTT Video title: "Nvidia you promised!"

    • @ps2232
      @ps2232 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@azurai3934 my only issue with HUBs review is they continually Incorrectly kept stating that Nvidia claimed 80% increase at 1440p and ragging on them for not providing this... but Nvidia never made that claim.
      Also not to defend Nvidai ( i'll have to go double check) but I'm pretty sure they claimed Upto 2x increase and because HUB chose to use a slower platform (by viewer request) plus margin of error many of their test were close @4k
      In the end though everyone shoudl rememerb they are companies AMD, Nvidia, Intel will always show things in the best light and use carfull wording to set around things Like "Upto"

      In defense to the others channels, they found doing clickbait is extremely effective and Linus wouldn't do it if he wouldn't lose potential viewers.
      It's a marketing strategy and at least they put the product name in the titles now, unlike other channels.
