I gave myself a harmonica for Christmas. I was 70 years and 7 months young at the time. I have 2 months under my belt right now and I love it. Tom's videos have been very helpful. Didn't think I would stick to it, but I have. Great way to help fill the day when you're stuck at home because of Covid.

@@TKBarnes I'm still with it. I like to make up new tunes and just wing it. I never learned to read music and I don't plan to at this point. I am hearing impaired, but not enough to keep me from music. Now 72, learning a new skill and sticking with my new hobby has been most satisfying. My grandson was so impressed, he asked me to get him a harmonica. I did, gladly.... Keep paying it forward!

27 years old never played one before. drank perhaps a bit too much one night during this quarantine and apparently I ordered a harmonica and had no memory of it the next day. By the time I saw the email it was already shipped so I couldnt back out on it.
Well the thing is here now so I have no choice but to learn it!

I am 62 and have decided to pick the harmonica back up... I got one for Christmas when I was little, and didn't get into it enough to go anywhere with it... I took piano lessons when I was younger than that, but quit when I felt it was too girlish a thing for me to be doing... And I regret it every day...
I am retired so I have a ton of time on my hands... I have been watching a lot of videos and decided to stick with yours... They are the most informative, to me, and easier to follow and play along with... I'm actually quite good at this lesson, from the start... But I shall keep on using it for exercise and building method...
I am playing an Easttop T008k Blues harmonica in C... I love blues so that will be my largest concentration, but rock may get some interest from me, yet... In the Easttop Blues harmonica I have also obtained an A, and a G... I'm waiting on an E... I'm all in on this, and I think those 4 should really be able to cover most anything I am wanting to learn how to play with...
I did see your evaluation of an Easttop Blues harmonica, and it was helpful... I'm on a limited income, being a medically retired, disabled veteran and all... So the Easttops just seem like the instrument to go with...
I moved into my house a year ago, from living on a sailboat for 17, and I have been truly blessed by our Lord... I am hoping this will be a great way for me to entertain myself and possibly some friends that come to visit... Hopefully rekindling my interest in music, as I did get a very nice used upright piano for my small living room...
Thank you for what you are helping me with... I really appreciate it... This will enrich my life on so many levels...
    TNX...

Love these videos ! I have wanted to play harmonica all my life but never had the time to learn. Now due to an injury and illness I find myself chair-bound ( mostly ) and a lung that does not cooperate - But my Dr says to exercise it and I will be back to full working order he hopes - I believe and have faith ! I said all that only to explain why I may lag a bit behind or be a bit slow in the lessons.
I was given a harmonica yesterday and I know it is not a great one ( Sawtooth Key of C Diatonic ) So far I know how to open the case - Take it out and if I blow on it I can make noise.
I did randomly start watching the first persons lessons that came up but had a hard time following. You are great in the way you teach ! This person did teach that when trying to achieve a single note you should tilt the harmonica downward into your bottom lip. I struggled with that for a while and began searching through for other teachers, I found you and would like to ask you if I can ...
While trying to tilt the harmonica down did not work I played around and tilted it up and I got a perfect sound. Can I ask would this be ok ? It is only a slight tilt. But when trying to learn more advanced techniques will that be a problem ? Or do you have a different suggestion - I am eager to learn - Thank you.

    • @davidfasnacht2123
      @davidfasnacht2123 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for that - I immediately got it when tilting it up and I was happy to hear this would not be a problem. Just to be clear I am crating a single note using my upper lip as opposed to my bottom lip ( as I have heard others say to use my bottom ) - I only own shirts with pockets and carry it i there - I pull it our many times during the day and have very my come to enjoy it.

I just ordered a really really cheap one. It was R119.00 which is 6.76 USD.
Well as you can tell I'm not really looking to be good or anything. I simply got it to play around and enjoy some peaceful time with my dog.
I will learn some beginning things during these crazy times.

I felt I might be somewhat old being 48 and starting harmonica, but the charming debate below made me feel quite young in fact. :) Great tutorials, Tomlin - started with the 5 most common mistakes video only to find out I was making all of them, naturally, but it helped greatly. Thanks and greetings from Prague.
