It's funny to me how many older people there are in the comments, when pretty much everywhere on TH-cam is riddled with kids. It's nice to see people still trying to find a new talent later in their lives.

First off, THANK YOU DAN! My Dear Ol' Dad had a harmonica in his pocket and played a 1953 martin 000-18 guitar. I never learned either of the two instruments. I lost my dad 12-05-19 to cancer. Here I sit with a 1953 martin guitar and a harmonica. I have never felt so compelled in my life to learn both. Been pluckin and have sore finger tips now and get discouraged. Got this harp in my pocket and was very happy to see a video of simple, basic instruction (YOURS). Maybe I can get a good grip on this lesson quicker than that martin. God Bless Ya Brother. Thanks again.

He was my best friend and when I think about him now it's always makes me smile. None of us (me or my two brothers) could hardly blow into it never mind get a noise from it!! Lol. I do play the guitar however, so.. The sore fingertips Will go away I promise! Stick with it.. Peace and respect from Ayrshire Scotland✌

With my grandfathers death my grandmother is moving out since she had wanted to do that well before his passing. We were clearing out his office and I found his harmonica, and remember he had given me one when I was younger (lost that of course cause I was a dumb kid) but we found his, a basic bluesband harmonica looks like yours. My grandmother let me keep it and I decided I'd try and learn it and your video has helped a lot so thanks!

I used to teach harp many years ago. My friend Steve Cash (harp player for Ozark Mountain Daredevils) once told me the earliest advice he got was to “keep the harp in your pocket. In other words just play.
Second thing to learn is to figure out how to play single notes. That’s the hardest thing for beginners. Great video. Thx.

Im the person that makes everybody laugh. It started as a joke.I got the harmonica that use to belong to my wife's grandfather. He was nicknamed BLACK GIANT(r.i.p.), he owned and played this thing all the time so im told. I am a music lover, always wanted to play multiple musical instruments. Piano, guitar, drums, trumpet etc. I love practicing and learning this thing. I love music so this allows me the opportunity to study and learn more. Especially blues and rock n roll. I can go on and on. I'm greatful for all lessons. THANK you Mr.

Thanks for your lesson Dave, in Costa Rica we don´t have many Harmonica players, and it has been hard to find someone to teach me, but this first lesson was fun and I´m looking forward to learning more.

Thanks for the info brother. 👍 my dad played harmonica. He passed away in 17. We didn’t have the best relationship but the last year of his life we really got close. I’m gonna lean this to and think of my old man when I play. Thanks again for the lessons buddy.

Like this video! So many people try to teach us Harmonica, but a lot of people use different terms, blow and suck...... and al other kind of thinks. I wish every body should say blow and draw than I understand what they are talking about! ❤🙏🏻

    Hahaha...Bob Ross..that's a pretty cool comparison.
We have heard of Bob Ross in Australia too. I was at a friend's memorium yesterday and a friend of the deceased play a guitar version of the Piano Man. He was in his 80s but captured all the harmony and friendship they shared of 45 years. Speaking to him later I asked if he had considered adding a Harmonica to his piece...WTF...sing, play guitar and blow a harp. I'll leave that to a younger man with good lungs. We talked and I asked if the Harmonica would match him note for note or just come in for a solo or just add a riff or a highlight of harp notes.
I've taught myself how to play...ironically the first Homer representative post war WWII was my Uncle.
I didn't learn the recorder, or the Organ, or Piano, or Accordion...or the humble Harmonica.
Nope they sent me off to learn the Hawaiian Guitar.
That's when I figured out I was either a dummy or a genious. Man I just couldn't learn what a note was on sheet music. There were 30 people strumming. Just learned to play be ear.
40 years later pushed by well meaning girlfriend to learn the blues. I already had those with the Hawaiian Guitar. Again 30 plus people a blowing and a sucking.
I ran out screaming NOOOO in the key of Shreak !
I happen to be in a music shop looking for the Soprano Set 6.
I looked up and saw a DVD set called...Getting started on the Harmonica....now why didn't all the former people perhaps think of that.
Lullabies , kids ditties like 3 blind mice..even God save the Queen.
They are already in your head. Just for fun, I'd whistle my way to and from work using the exercise to breathe...but without stopping whistling.
Then I'd transpose the notes in my head to numbers on a 10 hole Diatonic. Slowly learning to bend note and do wider note. I can't use my tongue to block but a mostly nail the song that pops outta my head...within 3 or 4 numbers of blow or suck, I refine it later by transposing the tune...to read a week or so later to muscle memory the tune.
I loves my dozen or so harps. Never share it with anyone...especially in these covid times.
I've always wanted to do riders in the storm..
But you got to alter a known note to play what the extra player in Morrison's band used. He disguised his well known name...played under a Pseudonym...he was part of another rival band. His record label would not have been IMPRESSED....man I can head the riff in my mind right now.
I'm subscribed to you now and will follow your easy method of teaching. Onya Mate !!!
    Translated
    To
That's..." Good on you Mate "
