Let's say you want to build a car to go compete. You can't just build the craziest thing you can manage. You’ve got to follow these things called “rules”. But what happens when a professional race team ditches that rulebook and makes the most insane, most powerful, drift car ever to lay down some rubber? Our buddy and pro drifter Chris Forsberg built a drift car so sick, it’s not even allowed in Formula D! And today we not only get to show you this car for the first time, but how this car came to be and why breaking the rules was necessary for its creation.

Big Altima Energy just reached a whole new level
Im an engineer, and i just want to say i really appreciate you guys taking the time to do a little deeper explanation on why things are done they are done. You could have just said, "round tubes are stronger than square tubes" but you do a great job of giving an explanation thats technical enough to be correct and keep my eye from twitching from glossed over things that are technically inaccurate, without getting to deep into 2nd moments of area and stuff like that. And you do a great job of explaining the why behind things. Big props to the writers and whoever is in charge of technical stuff.

@@hellcat8819 I have one, crazy fast 0-40 mph in 6 hours. Sweet handling, -1g on skidpad, that's right this car is so awesome that when your turning left hard you also get forced left, figure that out. Mine has the red triangle tune. Luckily for me the thing has the old battery delete. Gen 2 Prius only, the rest of them are too slow.

Chris came to drift fest weekend in Ireland 🇮🇪 a few years back. He was a super nice guy. He of course won the competition and rather then keeping the prize money he donated to the runner ups who were all unsponsored armatures 👍 total legend

I love seeing production design methods like CAD and 3D scanning being used by independent builders. Shows how accessible this is becoming for people
Need an “unlimited” class of formula drift, think it would be awesome to see what manufacturers can do with modern tech, think we should allow full tube chassis, think formula 3, formula 2, formula pro, and formula X or something, I think that would get Americans obsessed with motor sport again

That's an absolutely insane build... I don't really have any words for it, I'm just glad it exists. Maybe it'll make Altimas kinda cool again. If nothing else, it definitely makes that one in particular pretty badass.

I feel the need to say building drift taxis are not a new thing (we have lots of drift taxis at GATEBIL for example).
But it is realy cool that they took it to this extreme level with a whole tube chassis and stuff. it is espesialy cool that they made it so they in theory could "mass produce" those chassis and have a whole fleet of drift taxi Altima's.

Seems like this would be a good prototype for a higher-spec drift class, sort of like the Formula 1 of drift. The only question would be "is it more entertaining to see two of these do a drift run?" and I think the answer would be a loud YES. So maybe it won't be too long before we see an elite drift class for the fully-cashed-up teams to play with.

The freaking laser cutter for the pipe

That was pretty slow cutting, check out Trumpf TubeLasers, especially the newer fiber lasers can go ludicrous speeds with thin materials. The cutting speeds for say 3-4mm stainless is pretty impressive even on older Trumpf co2 lasers.
I do cutting programs for these machines daily, they really are great.
Beautiful! Perfectly measured tubes! It used to be a difficult art, now it can be premeasured in merely hours rather than weeks!
