To find out what was going on and how it was fixed, watch this video: th-cam.com/video/CKgj6boQGQQ/w-d-xo.html Or hold off if you want to preserve the mystery until after finishing the No GPS Tour series!
Awesome, glad it was resolved. When I finish paying for my 2022 te300i I’m going to get a speed twin. Should not be much longer, but the wait sucks 😀 Enjoying your videos!
This is so great! No matter where U go, how isolated... IF U ride a Triumph some old dude (I'm 67) will come & talk about his old Triumph. I know because I ride 2 Triumphs (2012 Speedmaster & 2022 Street Twin). My first Triumph, I bought straight out of high school in '72, was a 1968 650 single single carb. Keep on keeping on my young friend!
Respect for riding that Altitude without a wind deflector, I was cold just watching the video!!!! Dude you are making great content , subbed!!!!!! I love the motorcycle, but hate electrical issues, just kills your confidence. My Royal Enfield quit working twice on me over the last 3 years, same type situation, the only fix was a new battery.
Great series I enjoyed it a lot! Brings back some good memories of past trips, especially Beartooth. I ditched the leather jacket when touring after being too hot like you were. I went to a layered set up with a mesh jacket as the base to carry the armor. Much better for me, but may not be your thing. I ditched the sunscreen as well and now wear a UV protective buff on my neck. Also helps with jacket collar rub. Its not as hot as you would suspect either, wind flows through it. Anyways, great series I am sure I will watch it a few times over the winter. take care!
Thank you! Yeah this trip definitely got me shopping for an all-season ADV-style jacket. I'm planning to rerelease all of these videos as one long "movie" (with some extra footage) so be on the lookout for that!
you did another great ride, VB, the weather had the road closed when I was out there . glad the speed twin got you back..to where you needed to be. It can mess with your mind when you are far from home and your ride starts to act up.
Love these set of videos, VB - I have recently purchased a 2022 Street Twin and am gradually getting more comfortable with it as a first time rider. Hope to be able to do something like this one day - appreciate the motivation!
Heated grips working overtime... dash lights flashing like a XMAS tree... DEJÁ VU! Sounds like another battery change was needed back then... Don't blame the universe, blame the DIY shed-wiring directly to the battery - BIG NO NO. Hope it all worked out in the end, without major hustle... You're alive and posting, so I guess it did! LOL Cheers from PORTUGAL brother. Stay safe, take care, have fun.
Hah, this is actually the original dying battery issue from back in June, I just didn't catch up to that point in my editing until now. Figured I'd try to leave the mystery intact for the sake of this story. The heated grips are now running off the taillight wire with some quick-splice connectors!
@@VanBlamm makes sense 👍🏼 It was either that, or the ONLY other possible and logical explanation: - that thin layer of ICE 🧊 you decided to crack with your boot, was actually preventing the WORLD 🌎 of being invaded by ICE-Gremlins, cryogenically retained / concealed beneath it !!! 9:30 - Now, look what you did…! 👹👹👹🤪😜🤣😎✌🏼
Great video! Definitely adding Bear Tooth to my riding destination list. P.S. Your issues sound like a weak battery, exacerbated by the cold weather up on that pass. The ECU will do all sorts of bizarre stuff if the voltage is low. Loose battery connections or an accessory that puts too much load on the charging system can do the same thing. Can’t wait for your next trip.
Your video was a huge success!!! Time 12:25. I’m heading their in a couple of weeks from Fresno California on my 2009 Bonneville.Keep up the great videos
You resolved your problem with a new battery. Deltran makes a volt meter that plugs directly into the battery tender cable. I check my now every ride as my battery is three years old. Also, I always put it on the battery tender during the Winter . All bikes break and when they do it is very scary. I learned this the hard way when I lost my key fob and when I went to start it nothing happened. A recent service reset my my personal PIN number and I did not know the master PIN number. Good thing a cop stopped to help me call my neighbor to get the master PIN number recorded at home. Very remote area and I had no cell service. I thought that I might have to be there all night on this mountain. AAA makes a service plan for motorcycles, but from past experience, then are very reluctant to come to remote areas. In your case, there seemed to be enough riders or cars that you could call a tow truck or hitch a ride back to town.
Like these travel video’s and nice footage still, don’t worry. The feeling of a bike letting you down really sucks. I rode Japanese bikes for 20 years and jumped onto a 2021 Bonneville T120 recently. Fingers crossed I won’t regret it…🙂
I feel like these Triumphs are awesome enough that the occasional reliability hiccup is tolerable. Ideally I'd keep something Japanese in my garage alongside the Speed Twin just to be sure I'm never without a working ride. Hope you're enjoying that T120!
Helo Van.. Tom here from India.. you are a motivation for me to get my Speed Twin ( Red Hopper) 2 weeks back.. your travelogs are amazing and one finds oneself one saddle soon after seeing your video.. Sorry to see ur bike with lights flashing.. even though I'm not a tech guy but I speculate that may be your battery I not getting charged or it's under charging or may be it's not able to give dat output to the ECU.. Wen u ride in high altitudes with near freezing temp, the battery doesn't hold well compared to ambient temp.. Ride safe bro, it's a beast of a machine 💪 👌 😎 Keep riding
@@VanBlamm We did not get to ride it! Yellowstone river flooded the day we got there. The trip was pretty brutal overall. High heat in Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado. Start of that "Heat Dome". High winds and cross winds exceeding 45mph and gusting higher. We left Billings and went to Deadwood for a couple days and rode that area and loved it. The trip home was brutal with high heat and crosswinds again. Did spend an extra day iin Eureka Sprigs and that was great! 14 days on the road, 11 days of actual riding and 5800 miles total.
Aw man! Well I guess that just means you'll have to go back, and I hope it's a nicer trip next time. Glad you enjoyed the Black Hills though; I took my Triumph there in 2020 and it was some of my favorite riding I've ever done.
Glad you made it back to town. I've ridden Bear Tooth a couple of times over the years. I hope you made it to Missoula. You know that there's a Triumph dealer there, right?
Thanks! I was heading back home two days later anyway, so I just waited and solved it there. Turned out to be a simple fix. I posted a couple vids on it several months back.
Great video. Appreciate all the effort you put into your rides. I'm also on a big trip now and second battery feeling a little weak. Not as bad as what you experienced though so hopefully I won't have problems. Next battery I'm going to try a lithium ion.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching. I'll be curious how it goes with the lithium. I thought about getting one as my replacement but decided to stay OEM for now.
Great vid, very strange about the bike, I have the same 2019 Speed Twin here in the UK, have done around 12,000 miles, twice the left hand clock has acted up, first time everything reset to zero, except thankfully the odometer reading, the second time my trip reset itself, up to now it has been totally reliable, never let me down, so who knows?
With the problems you're describing check your battery connection and ground I know you put in a new battery but don't count that out it could also be going bad.

Swings and roundabouts, the drone could have been lost. £300 hotel sucks tho and the price of Gas could have been £7. Although bike issues, still a thumping journey. Thanks
