I rode approximately 600 miles from Sacramento California to the suburbs of Portland Oregon with my 9 year old son as my pillion on a Yamaha FZ6. Last and wettest day of a trip to San Diego and back. We went down the PCH and up I5. My son is a trooper! Now at 22 he rides and attributes his interest from that trip. I still have and ride the FZ6.

A classic argument for the electric under-suit. Keep it switched off for most of the day, then when the temperature drops just switch it on and every part of your body is toasty warm! Great safety aid too.
I also have a speed twin, and an absolutely fantastic modification I made was to slip a piece of 20 mm foam under the stock seat cover, I just simply undid the staples on one side, installed the foam on top of the original and then stapled the cover back in its original position, it works a treat in adding comfort to the bike.
Great video! It proves you don't need a BMW GS to go touring. I own a Street Twin 900 and use it for touring in Europe. At the end of this year I would like to testride a 1200.
Did 600 miles yesterday on my Speed Twin from top of Scotland back home. My butt hurt so much, had to keep moving around. It was made worse by the drybag strapped to the back which meant I couldn't move around as much. Did 1600 miles over 6 days in total. To be honest I expected my body to be suffering more than it has. The bike was flawless bar the chain needing a good clean and adjustment when I got back!
Did the same distance coming back from Scotland on my 2020 T100, but it had its foot pegs dropped by 25mm and a Triumph King and Queen seat. I could have turned around and done the journey back sooo comfortable, grant you it doesn’t look cool!!!

I own a 2017 Bonneville T-120 Black. It was my first bike at age 65 after a 40 year absence from riding. When the Speed Twin came out, I was intrigued by it similarities and differences. I liked its looks, sound, and power. I was unaware of its short gearing. My T120 is stock, and does about 3000 rpms at 70 mph in th gear. Nice video.
The farthest I've ridden is 3200 miles in 4 days back in 1979. Rode from Monterey CA, to my parents house in Harpers Ferry WV. Was on a 1978 Suzuki GS 1000. Had my Army duffle bag strapped to the back.
Did 1000 miles back in June from my home in CA to Portland, OR on my ST (Oregon greeted me with rain for the rest of the trip). Like the others, the seat is not the best but finding all the sitting positions definately helped. I had aftermarket cafe handlebars, by the time I got to Portland my left pinky and ring finger were numb. 100% my body took a beating but it was worth it. Getting the cramp buster was a god send on the highways.
My longest one day is 625, I've found that pressing down on the pegs slightly prevents cramps (for me) because I tend to squeeze the tank at high speeds and hairy situations,,,, like rush hour in Atlanta at 90 mph 😵💫
I did 21 hours on a Honda 300 Rally last summer riding from California to Alaska. Can’t remember the exact mileage but I started somewhere in the upper middle of Canada and ended in Tok, AK. Absolute madness
Was fun to watch. Long distance rides on a motorcycle not suited for this purpose is always better than watching a similar video on a BMW 1250 GS or a Honda Goldwind. My personal best is 620+km in a single day (385+ miles), riding from the west end of Crete island to the East and back home (not all the way back to the west side). I did it on my V7iii Moto Guzzi and it was not planned ahead. It was the "just a bit further" mindset, once the next checkpoint was reached! Took me around 12 hours with two major stops for a snack and a beverage. Moto Guzzi vibrates a lot more than silky smooth Triumph 1200 engine and in the end my palms were buzzing like i was still on the thing riding! I was also a lone wolf during that ride, and it was one of the best days ever, i 've spent by myself!
I have driven 290 miles in a day on my humble hunter 350 to a Royal Enfield meet up in India. Best trip I've made yet, took nearly 14h. Man that bike is not meant for long distances and bad roads.
Hey van blamm. Nice video as ever. I, follow this rule when I am doing long rides on my speed twin. Take a 15 min break every 100 kms, maintain a constant speed of 100 to 120 kmph. Hydration pack ( compulsory for our Indian weather). The longest I rode on one day is 800 kms. I just wish that the speed twin had a touring seat.
This past Christmas rode a rode a Suzuki GW250 990 miles in 18 hours at temperatures below freezing from Nacogdoches Tx to Tampa Fl. My longest day was 1072 miles on a Hyosung GT250 at the end of a cross country trip. I found your video because I'm about to purchase a 2023 1200 Speed Twin to replace my aging Bonnie now at 112,000 miles.
Nice video Sir! My longest ride was Calais to Nice in France, 767 miles on a 2009 Triumph Speed Triple. It took 12 hours including the many stops for fuel and rest. It was tough. At 250 miles I thought there is no way I will make this in a day. At 500 I thought yeah maybe I can do this. At 750 I was thinking maybe I can ride forever and ever and never ever stop. Clearly that was some fatigue-induced nonsense! I was good for nothing the next day. The ride itself was well worth it - but it also enabled me to ride the stunning mountains of Provence and cruise the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. Special biking memories. Keep riding and keep safe.
Great channel, I just subscribed. I've been 2 wheel road tripping for almost 50 years. I share your sentiments about the interstate. A great book that comes out every year is Road Trip USA. Great for route planning, I highly recommend it. Also, I avoided GPS for the longest. There's something romantic about a map. Once upon a time, only kings and explorers had maps. They give you a feel for the lay of the land whereas GPS seems to remove part of your brain. If I followed GPS to the same destination 10x I still wouldn't know how to get there without it. Anyhow, ride on and be safe...
I just got my first bike ever two weeks ago, a Speed Twin 1200. I guess I was inspired in part by these videos. I live in Fairfax, I have watched this video several times. I still get goosebumps when you enter the tunnel at Rosslyn. I can’t wait to do my first road trip. I guess it will be a short one, maybe Annapolis or Philly 🙂. Baby steps

Hillsboro Oregon to Missoula Mt 577 miles on a Honda CB400 hawk. My buddy was on an Xs1100 Yamaha. Hit a torrential downpour going up the west side of Lolo pass. Great ride. I had worked an 8 hour shift the night before and got off work at 6am left on the trip at 7am. Long day.
Great video. Your riding philosophy matches mine. I hate riding on freeways, but I'll do it when I need to make time or it's really the only option. But also to get through medium and larger sized cities. It's a better option than hitting every stoplight going through the city and taking 5x as long. But overall, yes, slabbing it is boring, and very tiring if you're on a naked bike like the Speed Twin. I'm on a BMW R nineT Pure and it's pretty much the same, except that I installed a small windshield which takes the wind blast off my chest at 70+ mph. Like the Triumph, my bike's top gear (6th) is a little short for sustained interstate travel. It's doable, but at 80+ mph the engine gets quite buzzy and you feel it through the bars. No cruise control on mine either, and I agree even if I had it I wouldn't use it all the time, but on the freeway I'd definitely use it. My longest day ever was on my old Honda VFR 800. I did a SaddleSore 1,000 on it not long after I'd bought my BMW, and not long before I sold the VFR. I also did a few 600-mile days on that VFR over the years, too. It was great for long-distance rides when my knees and neck were younger. I've done 400- and 500-mile days on my Beemer, but even with a Sargent seat installed, it's just too uncomfortable to try doing much more than that. For trips this year and beyond I'll finally buy some kind of saddle pad, which should help prevent backside pain. Any ride over 500 miles on any motorcycle is a nice accomplishment, but even more so on a naked standard/roadster style bike. Kudos to you and ride safe!
Man, what an awesome video! Thanks for the vicarious road trip. I've ridden a few 500+ mile (805 km) trips over the years on various naked sport bikes (LOVE the feeling of riding in the wind!). Once did 800 miles (1,287 km) from Joplin, MO to Dexter, MI on a 2007 Triumph Speed Triple with a stock seat. Along with getting a solid 8 hours sleep the night before and keeping hydrated, I think the best thing to be able to do long days is doing it more frequently. Your body (i.e. butt) just gets used to it. Cheers to naked motorcycles!
In the early 90's a couple of us drove our 1100 Viragos from Chula Vista, Ca to Cabo San Lucas in 2 days; about 1000 miles. Spent the night in Mulege, halfway to Cabo. Next day drove to Cabo. Spent a week in Cabo deep-sea fishing. I sure miss the Virago, best bike I've ever had, wish I still had it. 😎
hi there ive done 380 miles in one day on my 2015 triumph bonnieville t100 around wales in the uk i loved it, im planning on going to scotland to do around 750 miles in a few days .
my longest ride was Akaroa to Seddonville on the West coast of New Zealand on a 400cc Honda vibrations above 90mph. Although only 6 hours in rain and just missed the snow. It took me two hours to recover in a jucuzzi. I was 38 years then, now 71 and havent rode since So im looking at the 900 Speed Twin as I will only do short trips
Well I did 850 miles from Indianapolis, Indiana to the Hudson Valley, NY, 9am - 11:30 pm. on a 2015 Triumph Tiger XRX, 800cc. It was long but cool. I still have that bike I bought new, Heated grips, cruise control, comfort low seat with Alaskan Butt pad, adjustable wind screen,. GPS, centerstand. I also have a 2019 speed twin, same as yours. I love that bike but 200 miles is about all I'm willing to go on it, not great for touring. I also have a 2018 BMW G310R with an Akropovic pipe. It a single that puts out around 34 hp and weights about 350 lbs. wet. Wringing it out is fun and it's a bit sporty and so flickable, it just works great on twisty roads.
I rode from Minneapolis to St. Louis in June, straight shot, 562 miles in just under 9 hours. Two days later I came back to MN and yeah, my ass was also numb. I did this on a 2021 CB500F....will never do that again!
I've done just over 800 miles a few times on my FJR1300. Never more than 400 when my girlfriend is riding on the back. I had heard stories about how bad the stock seat was, but it wasn't terrible. Then I added a $20 seat pad, and eight hours in the saddle is comfy.
+1 front sprocket made a huge difference for me on my Speed Twin. I don’t do much highway riding, but when I do, the 17 tooth has really made it tolerable.
I did this mod and i recommend it to every Speed Twin owner, 1st gear was way too short, this mod lengthens every gear for a much more relaxed ride. It drops about 300rpm off top gear at 70mph.
Did a 550km ride this summer on my 2021 SpeedTwin with a pillion with temperatures ranging between 37-42 ºC. Was really impressed by how well the bike handled the extreme heat. I didn’t find it to uncomfortable to ride for such a long time. Even though The SpeedTwin isn’t made for comfort or long cruises. I’m able to easily manage a tank without stopping.
Hats off to you, that was some ride! I've done a few long rides but most memorable was Ulm in Germany to Graz in Austria, less than yours at 450 miles but I was two up. Along the was we took in the Neuschwanstein Castle and the Grossglockner High Alpine Road (look them up). In Graz we visited the Arnold Schwarzenegger museum and attended the MotoGP at Spielberg.

I'm the same regarding freeways, highways so I installed the tall travel screen only when taking long trips then I remove it because it detracts from the Bonnie look. And it makes highway travel very comfortable with the only negative being louder dbs has the wind hits the helmet but not the chest.
I have 4 bikes, and I tour on all of them. I just did Crater Lake OR from Seattle a few days ago. On a 99 ZX9R. I also have a 04 VFR 800 a Harley Night ROD, and a BMW K1200 GT 03. 2 things you need to get, to make touring much more comfortable on long trips. An air hawk seat pad. Forget the comfort seat. I have a comfort seat on my VFR and it is not comfortable enough on long rides. That air hawk seat pad is worth it's weight in gold. Get one. The other thing you need to get is an oxford cramp buster, it will allow you to rest your wrist on long rides. Again worth every penny. Both these items are very cheap. Peace..
My longest ride on my 2013 T-100 was 580 miles. NC to Orange Beach, Alabama. It took forever because I get gas about every 90 miles and you’re right, the stock seats are rough. I still haven’t changed mine. Bought my bike new, my first bike, and I’m about to hit 70,000 miles. Not bad. I’ll be 61 in a few days. I plan to buy a new bike after I hit 100k miles on this one. As someone who lived in DC/NoVA for the greater part of my adult life, this made me a little homesick! I felt every emotion passing those highway signs 😂 Not the longest ride I've done, but the most stressful was ferrying a 1979 KZ400 with bad electronics from DC to PA. Never again
Rode my ‘18 Tiger 1200 200+ miles to K.C. An easy pleasure cruise. Then traded for my ‘20 Speed Twin and rode back. At first I had a tail wind and felt great! Last 100 miles I battled a strong crosswind, so that made my back and butt more sore. Also spent 3 days riding all over the Badlands and Black Hills in SD with my son. We were having so much fun on some of the best roads for motorcycling that we never felt fatigued. BTW, loved your video! Especially how punchy you got at the end! 100 mph in the tunnel, you rascal, you!
Sweet video dude! A few years back I did the trip from the Pocono’s in Pa down to Asheville on the BLP. Took several days to get there. Did the return trip along your route 627 miles home in one shot on my Beemer K1200GT. Makes me want the Speed Twin!
Hey there, Great vid... 300 miles on my air cooled 2016 Bonnie T100 with a pillon... 40° heat... Took us 7 hours (numerous stops and lunch)... rode back home 2 days later... Loved it (apart from the heat). Fitted the Bonneville "Comfort seat" for the trip.
430 miles one way in 50°-38° weather on a 1980 Honda CB900C… and it was pouring down rain 80% of the time! Turned around one week later and made it back home.. Was asked once I got home by a friend “I bet you won’t do that again!” To which I replied “The very next time I get the chance too!” Excited to try out my “new” 2010 Triumph Thunderbird on a trip!
I have always traveled that way. I'm a planner, I can't help it. But I do really want to try a trip where I just ride away with my stuff and see where I end up, no reservations.
@@VanBlamm I understand. I've done it both ways. Backroads through small towns in places like Iowa and Missouri and Oklahoma have been my best rides, with no end-of-day destinations.
I’ve done 430 miles on a Street Twin in a day. Was very glad when it was over. The last hundred miles were rough and it was very hot in AZ in summer. The balls of my feet were numb. My butt cheeks were burning. Hands were cramped. I was riding too fast trying to reach the end quicker. If I’d had a couple of longer breaks it would’ve been easier.

I did just under 700 miles To the Lake District and back to take my son his medication he had left behind while on a school trip. I have the stock Speed twin slap. And it was the first time I had to keep standing up because my ass was so sore!
Great video! Back in July 2012 went to Newfoundland from Boston. First day was 650ish miles, went past Saint John's in New Brunswick on my 2012 Tiger Explorer. Very easy to do with cruise, heated grips and seat. Didn't really need till we got to ferry and went over to Newfoundland.
@@VanBlamm went all the way up to L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. Saw Viking settlements. Saw icebergs, took a boat out to one of them. There were smaller ice chips floating around. The crew had a net and pulled some in the boat. Broke off some pieces and gave us some to taste. 20,000 year old water was so pure and good. Wow!
Hiya buddy,l have just found your channel.....that may be due to me getting a new t100. I'm in the UK and our cold weather season is about 6 months. I've made a few mods to help me...I've had cruise control fitted....helps me as a solo rider and oxford heated grips. As an aside my fuel economy has gone from 70 mpg to 76. Great stuff VB! I own an exact grey 2019 speed twin and it’s my “around town/commuter/Sunday afternoon-around-the-countryside-bike. Longest I’ve done in one day only about 400km (240m). I also own a 2020 Tiger XRT and recently did a trip around the South Island of New Zealand. Incidentally, one of my longest days was exactly 855km!(~500m) The XRT is a touring beast with excellent wind protection and a very comfortable seat + it was a nice warm sunny day, - so all I can say is kudos to your 500miles on a naked bike in colder weather!

I’m looking to ride from Fort Worth TX to Denver on my sfv650 after I get some things done to it. I bought an inflatable seat cushion to help with comfort.
a Very Good thing to have is a Backrest, it is Worth its weight in Gold. hard seat i bought an airhawk seat cushion and it works well i have a neck injury and riding a triumph bobber so the bumps can be quite hard sometimes.
696 miles on a 1992 Triumph 900 Trophy. Provence in southern France to Bayeux in Normandy on the way back to England. Nice ride when starting out, went through the Alps and the scary mountain roads. However it started to rain heavily which it did pretty much for the last two thirds of the journey. My palms were bruised and sore afterward. I definitely couldn’t do it now.
Well, bro. My longest ride in just one day was from the city of Jacareí, São Paulo state, to the city of Araxá, Minas Gerais state, here in Brazil. I was in a MT-07, or FZ-07 for some countries. Man, not looking forward to repeat that, as you said. But had 541Km on a KTM Duke 390 from São Paulo city too, and it was even worst... My ideal one-day range is 300Km maximum on whatever agressive naked bike, which I like the most. In both situations, I had just bought the bikes, and first 300Km were awesome and funny. But arrived without buttocks at home. Insanely hurts... That's why I'll try to buy next bike in a 300 Km range next time. Congrats for your videos. Came by that of Thruxton vs Speed Twin one. I love both bikes; have never rode one, but started to look for them after have been rode a Street Twin. Loved, but I missed some power and quality that time. And the 1200 bunch seems to solve that! I did 770 miles on a 2010 Bonneville going from Illinois to Colorado. Wanted to do more but left later in the day then I wanted to and was worried I'd get stuck in the middle of farm land without being able to find a hotel. And I am one of those who thinks the Speed Twin needs Cruise control. To the point of I'm waiting to see if Triumph decides to make it an option before making a purchase.
Hi Van. I'm from Brazil and I drove 1.100km in a Speed Twin 1.200, and is the best bike for me. I had a Tiger 1.200 too, but my best experience it was in this bike.
In 1981 I rode a 750 Seca from Santa Cruz CA. to twin falls ID. in 10 hours a 750 mile journey in 1 fast shot in NEVADA I was doing 95 ➕️ up to Donner lake on I80 I guess I was going 100 ➕️🏍💨💥⚡️💥⚡️up the grade ⚡️⚡️it helped to have a screen to tuck behind the wind blast was horrific 😢 💨
Awesome vid! I did 665 miles from CT to just outside of Dayton OH on the first leg of a cross country ride. Was on a DR650 i set up for highway comfort with a smaller front sprocket, wind screen, and more comfortable seat. I was still dead after that day! I would have loved to have been on a heavier bike on the highway that also didn’t have a skinny 21 inch front wheel lol
Impressive! Were the rest of your days similarly long? I want to ride across the country but after this experience I just don't think my bike is the right tool for the job, for me. I'd have to average 300 miles a day.
@@VanBlamm looking back at my log the rest of the days were between 450-500 miles give or take. I took a bunch of rest days in between tho. Yeah the bike makes a big difference. You might be able to have a long haul touring set up with a windshield and that ugly corbin seat lol. But yeah if I do it on two wheels again it will definitely be on something more highway friendly.

Last month I did 403 miles in one day on my CX500E through some pretty awful weather at times … but it was fine, bike was great. It was the last day of a 2400 mile week too (Great Malle Rally etc). Another good video, Elliot, cheers 👍🇬🇧
I did 849 km (about 528 miles) from Raymond Terrace NSW to Orbost Victoria in one day on a Buell Ulysses XB12X a few years ago on my way to the Australian round of the Motogp at Philip Island.
The +1 front sprocket suits the bike better, the gearing on mine felt better. Why not try a small screen for a bit of wind protection. I have the triumph comfort seat on and I would say it's a little better than standard but I find a sheepskin makes my bum last longer.
Just did 2,200 on a trip, with one 500+ mile day and several 400+. Get an Airhawk for the seat - the smaller cruiser one, not the ADV one. Looks like crap, but your butt will thank you, and can be easily removed and reinstalled for long rides. I also installed a Cobrra chain oiler from Best Rest - simple and avoids the hassle of trying to lube every night. The bike needs a center stand, but it is a great motorcycle and works fine for touring.
I did a 1000 km ride on my ST Sprint, that was a 12 hour trip from Yarrawonga to Adelaide (Australia) along the Murray River, well should I say roads that were as near to the river as practical.
Nice ride. My longest was about 580 miles but it was on a 2018 ultra classic. I’ve always liked speed twin but never have had the opportunity to own one. I’m hoping to change that soon. Thanx again for a great video.
I just put an Atlas throttle lock on,, it seems really expensive but man is it easy to engage and disengage, and therefore worth it in my mind. There are cheaper ones (20$) that will also help with right arm/hand fatigue. They are less easy to use however and take up some grip space.
Did a 1640 km in 24 hours last year on speed twin. Stopped only to refuel. In general its ok, but in my case last 400km was very cold- 4-10 celsius, lots of road constructions and poor lightning.
Great video man, I only discovered your videos recently but I enjoy them very much. Big trips like these are awesome, maybe this particular trip is a bit overkill lol, but much respect for finishing it! Last year I did a day trip of 644km (402.5 miles) on a 2014 Moto Guzzi V7 Racer. That was loads of fun! until I had to do the last leg of the trip on the highway in the rain.... Oh well, nice memories ;)
@@VanBlamm I had (2) vstrom 650's. The original I think it was a 2002 black, the most comfortable seat of the 15 or so bikes I've owned and a newer 2012, also good. Once I tried the Tiger 800 line I thought this is the motor that 650 wants to be and that was it for me. The seat in both 650's is still more comfortable than the Tiger's.
Awesome bud, I felt your euphoria when you arrived lol...I only ride nakeds and have done many 12 to 13hr days, approx 500 miles but using mainly back roads more than motorways....for me a hydration pack, like camebak etc was a game changer! Gotta stay hydrated even in cool temps. Only eat small snacks as well...My ass is always the 1st to give up, esp on the ST so I'm gonna try a seat pad next!
Hey..finally got the same model of bike as yours..2019 triumph speed twin...and have some of grt modification on it...for my upcoming long bike trip...and yes when I rode down from pune about 1800kms from my place..I was doing the 80 mph or 130kmph as that's the best speed to cruise in..👍🍻
The longest one day ride I've ever done was from Virginia Beach to coastal Alabama. It was 950 miles +/-. I did sounded exactly like you did at the end of the video. The bike was a Russian Ural with a side car. Max speed was 65mph.
90 mph with no wind protection. That's something to consider. It takes a toll. Yeah, if you intend to keep your ST, I'd change gearing ratio. I went the opposite way as here in Korea 2-wheeled vehicles are prohibited from highway travel.
Did 3000 miles in 10 days on my 1150gsa a few years back……..8 days hungover. One day was forever going German, CZ, Poland….getting lost in mountains at night then riding into Krakow, parking up and drinking with locals. Then went Slovakia and into Ukraine before heading back to the uk. Had an air hawk for my butt. Two guys, two bikes and beer money. Best days.

Alright. You won me over with this video. Not simply because of the bike or the views......but because you also wear a Duro! ;) In regards to my longest ride as you requested at the end of your video, it was from Norfolk, VA to Malvern, AR on my 1984 Honda Magna V-30 (the lesser known 500cc Magna). I did that trip 3 times.

I rode approximately 600 miles from Sacramento California to the suburbs of Portland Oregon with my 9 year old son as my pillion on a Yamaha FZ6. Last and wettest day of a trip to San Diego and back. We went down the PCH and up I5. My son is a trooper! Now at 22 he rides and attributes his interest from that trip. I still have and ride the FZ6.

A classic argument for the electric under-suit. Keep it switched off for most of the day, then when the temperature drops just switch it on and every part of your body is toasty warm! Great safety aid too.

I also have a speed twin, and an absolutely fantastic modification I made was to slip a piece of 20 mm foam under the stock seat cover, I just simply undid the staples on one side, installed the foam on top of the original and then stapled the cover back in its original position, it works a treat in adding comfort to the bike.

Did 600 miles yesterday on my Speed Twin from top of Scotland back home. My butt hurt so much, had to keep moving around. It was made worse by the drybag strapped to the back which meant I couldn't move around as much. Did 1600 miles over 6 days in total. To be honest I expected my body to be suffering more than it has. The bike was flawless bar the chain needing a good clean and adjustment when I got back!

Did the same distance coming back from Scotland on my 2020 T100, but it had its foot pegs dropped by 25mm and a Triumph King and Queen seat. I could have turned around and done the journey back sooo comfortable, grant you it doesn’t look cool!!!

I own a 2017 Bonneville T-120 Black. It was my first bike at age 65 after a 40 year absence from riding. When the Speed Twin came out, I was intrigued by it similarities and differences. I liked its looks, sound, and power. I was unaware of its short gearing. My T120 is stock, and does about 3000 rpms at 70 mph in th gear.

The farthest I've ridden is 3200 miles in 4 days back in 1979. Rode from Monterey CA, to my parents house in Harpers Ferry WV. Was on a 1978 Suzuki GS 1000. Had my Army duffle bag strapped to the back.
Did 1000 miles back in June from my home in CA to Portland, OR on my ST (Oregon greeted me with rain for the rest of the trip). Like the others, the seat is not the best but finding all the sitting positions definately helped. I had aftermarket cafe handlebars, by the time I got to Portland my left pinky and ring finger were numb. 100% my body took a beating but it was worth it. Getting the cramp buster was a god send on the highways.

My longest one day is 625, I've found that pressing down on the pegs slightly prevents cramps (for me) because I tend to squeeze the tank at high speeds and hairy situations,,,, like rush hour in Atlanta at 90 mph 😵💫
I did 21 hours on a Honda 300 Rally last summer riding from California to Alaska. Can’t remember the exact mileage but I started somewhere in the upper middle of Canada and ended in Tok, AK. Absolute madness

Long distance rides on a motorcycle not suited for this purpose is always better than watching a similar video on a BMW 1250 GS or a Honda Goldwind.
My personal best is 620+km in a single day (385+ miles), riding from the west end of Crete island to the East and back home (not all the way back to the west side). I did it on my V7iii Moto Guzzi and it was not planned ahead. It was the "just a bit further" mindset, once the next checkpoint was reached! Took me around 12 hours with two major stops for a snack and a beverage.
Moto Guzzi vibrates a lot more than silky smooth Triumph 1200 engine and in the end my palms were buzzing like i was still on the thing riding! I was also a lone wolf during that ride, and it was one of the best days ever, i 've spent by myself!

I have driven 290 miles in a day on my humble hunter 350 to a Royal Enfield meet up in India. Best trip I've made yet, took nearly 14h. Man that bike is not meant for long distances and bad roads.

Hey van blamm. Nice video as ever. I, follow this rule when I am doing long rides on my speed twin. Take a 15 min break every 100 kms, maintain a constant speed of 100 to 120 kmph. Hydration pack ( compulsory for our Indian weather). The longest I rode on one day is 800 kms. I just wish that the speed twin had a touring seat.

This past Christmas rode a rode a Suzuki GW250 990 miles in 18 hours at temperatures below freezing from Nacogdoches Tx to Tampa Fl. My longest day was 1072 miles on a Hyosung GT250 at the end of a cross country trip. I found your video because I'm about to purchase a 2023 1200 Speed Twin to replace my aging Bonnie now at 112,000 miles.

Nice video Sir! My longest ride was Calais to Nice in France, 767 miles on a 2009 Triumph Speed Triple. It took 12 hours including the many stops for fuel and rest. It was tough. At 250 miles I thought there is no way I will make this in a day. At 500 I thought yeah maybe I can do this. At 750 I was thinking maybe I can ride forever and ever and never ever stop. Clearly that was some fatigue-induced nonsense! I was good for nothing the next day. The ride itself was well worth it - but it also enabled me to ride the stunning mountains of Provence and cruise the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. Special biking memories. Keep riding and keep safe.

Great channel, I just subscribed. I've been 2 wheel road tripping for almost 50 years. I share your sentiments about the interstate. A great book that comes out every year is Road Trip USA. Great for route planning, I highly recommend it. Also, I avoided GPS for the longest. There's something romantic about a map. Once upon a time, only kings and explorers had maps. They give you a feel for the lay of the land whereas GPS seems to remove part of your brain. If I followed GPS to the same destination 10x I still wouldn't know how to get there without it.

I just got my first bike ever two weeks ago, a Speed Twin 1200. I guess I was inspired in part by these videos. I live in Fairfax, I have watched this video several times. I still get goosebumps when you enter the tunnel at Rosslyn. I can’t wait to do my first road trip. I guess it will be a short one, maybe Annapolis or Philly 🙂. Baby steps

Hillsboro Oregon to Missoula Mt 577 miles on a Honda CB400 hawk. My buddy was on an Xs1100 Yamaha. Hit a torrential downpour going up the west side of Lolo pass. Great ride. I had worked an 8 hour shift the night before and got off work at 6am left on the trip at 7am. Long day.

Great video. Your riding philosophy matches mine. I hate riding on freeways, but I'll do it when I need to make time or it's really the only option. But also to get through medium and larger sized cities. It's a better option than hitting every stoplight going through the city and taking 5x as long. But overall, yes, slabbing it is boring, and very tiring if you're on a naked bike like the Speed Twin. I'm on a BMW R nineT Pure and it's pretty much the same, except that I installed a small windshield which takes the wind blast off my chest at 70+ mph. Like the Triumph, my bike's top gear (6th) is a little short for sustained interstate travel. It's doable, but at 80+ mph the engine gets quite buzzy and you feel it through the bars. No cruise control on mine either, and I agree even if I had it I wouldn't use it all the time, but on the freeway I'd definitely use it.
My longest day ever was on my old Honda VFR 800. I did a SaddleSore 1,000 on it not long after I'd bought my BMW, and not long before I sold the VFR. I also did a few 600-mile days on that VFR over the years, too. It was great for long-distance rides when my knees and neck were younger. I've done 400- and 500-mile days on my Beemer, but even with a Sargent seat installed, it's just too uncomfortable to try doing much more than that. For trips this year and beyond I'll finally buy some kind of saddle pad, which should help prevent backside pain.
Any ride over 500 miles on any motorcycle is a nice accomplishment, but even more so on a naked standard/roadster style bike. Kudos to you and ride safe!
Man, what an awesome video! Thanks for the vicarious road trip. I've ridden a few 500+ mile (805 km) trips over the years on various naked sport bikes (LOVE the feeling of riding in the wind!). Once did 800 miles (1,287 km) from Joplin, MO to Dexter, MI on a 2007 Triumph Speed Triple with a stock seat. Along with getting a solid 8 hours sleep the night before and keeping hydrated, I think the best thing to be able to do long days is doing it more frequently. Your body (i.e. butt) just gets used to it. Cheers to naked motorcycles!
In the early 90's a couple of us drove our 1100 Viragos from Chula Vista, Ca to Cabo San Lucas in 2 days; about 1000 miles. Spent the night in Mulege, halfway to Cabo. Next day drove to Cabo. Spent a week in Cabo deep-sea fishing. I sure miss the Virago, best bike I've ever had, wish I still had it. 😎
hi there ive done 380 miles in one day on my 2015 triumph bonnieville t100 around wales in the uk i loved it, im planning on going to scotland to do around 750 miles in a few days .
my longest ride was Akaroa to Seddonville on the West coast of New Zealand on a 400cc Honda vibrations above 90mph. Although only 6 hours in rain and just missed the snow. It took me two hours to recover in a jucuzzi. I was 38 years then, now 71 and havent rode since So im looking at the 900 Speed Twin as I will only do short trips
Well I did 850 miles from Indianapolis, Indiana to the Hudson Valley, NY, 9am - 11:30 pm. on a 2015 Triumph Tiger XRX, 800cc. It was long but cool. I still have that bike I bought new, Heated grips, cruise control, comfort low seat with Alaskan Butt pad, adjustable wind screen,. GPS, centerstand. I also have a 2019 speed twin, same as yours. I love that bike but 200 miles is about all I'm willing to go on it, not great for touring. I also have a 2018 BMW G310R with an Akropovic pipe. It a single that puts out around 34 hp and weights about 350 lbs. wet. Wringing it out is fun and it's a bit sporty and so flickable, it just works great on twisty roads.

I rode from Minneapolis to St. Louis in June, straight shot, 562 miles in just under 9 hours. Two days later I came back to MN and yeah, my ass was also numb. I did this on a 2021 CB500F....will never do that again!

I've done just over 800 miles a few times on my FJR1300. Never more than 400 when my girlfriend is riding on the back. I had heard stories about how bad the stock seat was, but it wasn't terrible. Then I added a $20 seat pad, and eight hours in the saddle is comfy.
+1 front sprocket made a huge difference for me on my Speed Twin. I don’t do much highway riding, but when I do, the 17 tooth has really made it tolerable.

I did this mod and i recommend it to every Speed Twin owner, 1st gear was way too short, this mod lengthens every gear for a much more relaxed ride. It drops about 300rpm off top gear at 70mph.

Did a 550km ride this summer on my 2021 SpeedTwin with a pillion with temperatures ranging between 37-42 ºC. Was really impressed by how well the bike handled the extreme heat.
I didn’t find it to uncomfortable to ride for such a long time. Even though The SpeedTwin isn’t made for comfort or long cruises. I’m able to easily manage a tank without stopping.

Hats off to you, that was some ride! I've done a few long rides but most memorable was Ulm in Germany to Graz in Austria, less than yours at 450 miles but I was two up. Along the was we took in the Neuschwanstein Castle and the Grossglockner High Alpine Road (look them up). In Graz we visited the Arnold Schwarzenegger museum and attended the MotoGP at Spielberg.

I'm the same regarding freeways, highways so I installed the tall travel screen only when taking long trips then I remove it because it detracts from the Bonnie look. And it makes highway travel very comfortable with the only negative being louder dbs has the wind hits the helmet but not the chest.
I have 4 bikes, and I tour on all of them. I just did Crater Lake OR from Seattle a few days ago. On a 99 ZX9R. I also have a 04 VFR 800 a Harley Night ROD, and a BMW K1200 GT 03. 2 things you need to get, to make touring much more comfortable on long trips. An air hawk seat pad. Forget the comfort seat. I have a comfort seat on my VFR and it is not comfortable enough on long rides. That air hawk seat pad is worth it's weight in gold. Get one. The other thing you need to get is an oxford cramp buster, it will allow you to rest your wrist on long rides. Again worth every penny. Both these items are very cheap. Peace..

Many moons ago, I owned a 1974 Honda CB750. I drove from Greeley, CO, to Topeka, KS. It was about 570 miles. The bike did fantastic.

My longest ride on my 2013 T-100 was 580 miles. NC to Orange Beach, Alabama. It took forever because I get gas about every 90 miles and you’re right, the stock seats are rough. I still haven’t changed mine. Bought my bike new, my first bike, and I’m about to hit 70,000 miles. Not bad. I’ll be 61 in a few days. I plan to buy a new bike after I hit 100k miles on this one. Love my bike.

As someone who lived in DC/NoVA for the greater part of my adult life, this made me a little homesick! I felt every emotion passing those highway signs 😂 Not the longest ride I've done, but the most stressful was ferrying a 1979 KZ400 with bad electronics from DC to PA. Never again

Rode my ‘18 Tiger 1200 200+ miles to K.C. An easy pleasure cruise. Then traded for my ‘20 Speed Twin and rode back. At first I had a tail wind and felt great! Last 100 miles I battled a strong crosswind, so that made my back and butt more sore. Also spent 3 days riding all over the Badlands and Black Hills in SD with my son. We were having so much fun on some of the best roads for motorcycling that we never felt fatigued. BTW, loved your video! Especially how punchy you got at the end! 100 mph in the tunnel, you rascal, you!

Great vid... 300 miles on my air cooled 2016 Bonnie T100 with a pillon... 40° heat... Took us 7 hours (numerous stops and lunch)... rode back home 2 days later... Loved it (apart from the heat). Fitted the Bonneville "Comfort seat" for the trip.

430 miles one way in 50°-38° weather on a 1980 Honda CB900C… and it was pouring down rain 80% of the time! Turned around one week later and made it back home.. Was asked once I got home by a friend “I bet you won’t do that again!” To which I replied “The very next time I get the chance too!” Excited to try out my “new” 2010 Triumph Thunderbird on a trip!

I have always traveled that way. I'm a planner, I can't help it. But I do really want to try a trip where I just ride away with my stuff and see where I end up, no reservations.
@@VanBlamm I understand. I've done it both ways. Backroads through small towns in places like Iowa and Missouri and Oklahoma have been my best rides, with no end-of-day destinations.
I’ve done 430 miles on a Street Twin in a day. Was very glad when it was over. The last hundred miles were rough and it was very hot in AZ in summer. The balls of my feet were numb. My butt cheeks were burning. Hands were cramped. I was riding too fast trying to reach the end quicker. If I’d had a couple of longer breaks it would’ve been easier.
I can relate. Get-home-itis is real.

I did just under 700 miles To the Lake District and back to take my son his medication he had left behind while on a school trip. I have the stock Speed twin slap. And it was the first time I had to keep standing up because my ass was so sore!
Great video! Back in July 2012 went to Newfoundland from Boston. First day was 650ish miles, went past Saint John's in New Brunswick on my 2012 Tiger Explorer. Very easy to do with cruise, heated grips and seat. Didn't really need till we got to ferry and went over to Newfoundland.

@@VanBlamm went all the way up to L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. Saw Viking settlements. Saw icebergs, took a boat out to one of them. There were smaller ice chips floating around. The crew had a net and pulled some in the boat. Broke off some pieces and gave us some to taste. 20,000 year old water was so pure and good. Wow!
Hiya buddy,l have just found your channel.....that may be due to me getting a new t100. I'm in the UK and our cold weather season is about 6 months. I've made a few mods to help me...I've had cruise control fitted....helps me as a solo rider and oxford heated grips. As an aside my fuel economy has gone from 70 mpg to 76. I own an exact grey 2019 speed twin and it’s my “around town/commuter/Sunday afternoon-around-the-countryside-bike. Longest I’ve done in one day only about 400km (240m). I also own a 2020 Tiger XRT and recently did a trip around the South Island of New Zealand. Incidentally, one of my longest days was exactly 855km!(~500m) The XRT is a touring beast with excellent wind protection and a very comfortable seat + it was a nice warm sunny day, - so all I can say is kudos to your 500miles on a naked bike in colder weather!

a Very Good thing to have is a Backrest, it is Worth its weight in Gold.
hard seat i bought an airhawk seat cushion and it works well i have a neck injury and riding a triumph bobber so the bumps can be quite hard sometimes.
I just got a luggage rack, so packing some bags on there might serve as a bit of a backrest
696 miles on a 1992 Triumph 900 Trophy. Provence in southern France to Bayeux in Normandy on the way back to England. Nice ride when starting out, went through the Alps and the scary mountain roads. However it started to rain heavily which it did pretty much for the last two thirds of the journey. My palms were bruised and sore afterward. I definitely couldn’t do it now.

Well, bro. My longest ride in just one day was from the city of Jacareí, São Paulo state, to the city of Araxá, Minas Gerais state, here in Brazil. I was in a MT-07, or FZ-07 for some countries. Man, not looking forward to repeat that, as you said. But had 541Km on a KTM Duke 390 from São Paulo city too, and it was even worst... My ideal one-day range is 300Km maximum on whatever agressive naked bike, which I like the most. In both situations, I had just bought the bikes, and first 300Km were awesome and funny. But arrived without buttocks at home. Insanely hurts... That's why I'll try to buy next bike in a 300 Km range next time. Congrats for your videos. Came by that of Thruxton vs Speed Twin one. I love both bikes; have never rode one, but started to look for them after have been rode a Street Twin. Loved, but I missed some power and quality that time. And the 1200 bunch seems to solve that! I did 770 miles on a 2010 Bonneville going from Illinois to Colorado. Wanted to do more but left later in the day then I wanted to and was worried I'd get stuck in the middle of farm land without being able to find a hotel. And I am one of those who thinks the Speed Twin needs Cruise control. To the point of I'm waiting to see if Triumph decides to make it an option before making a purchase.

Hi Van. I'm from Brazil and I drove 1.100km in a Speed Twin 1.200, and is the best bike for me. I had a Tiger 1.200 too, but my best experience it was in this bike.
In 1981 I rode a 750 Seca from Santa Cruz CA. to twin falls ID. in 10 hours a 750 mile journey in 1 fast shot in NEVADA I was doing 95 ➕️ up to Donner lake on I80 I guess I was going 100 ➕️🏍💨💥⚡️💥⚡️up the grade ⚡️⚡️it helped to have a screen to tuck behind the wind blast was horrific 😢 💨

Awesome vid! I did 665 miles from CT to just outside of Dayton OH on the first leg of a cross country ride. Was on a DR650 i set up for highway comfort with a smaller front sprocket, wind screen, and more comfortable seat. I was still dead after that day! I would have loved to have been on a heavier bike on the highway that also didn’t have a skinny 21 inch front wheel lol

I want to ride across the country but after this experience I just don't think my bike is the right tool for the job, for me. I'd have to average 300 miles a day.

Yeah the bike makes a big difference. You might be able to have a long haul touring set up with a windshield and that ugly corbin seat lol. But yeah if I do it on two wheels again it will definitely be on something more highway friendly.

Last month I did 403 miles in one day on my CX500E through some pretty awful weather at times … but it was fine, bike was great. It was the last day of a 2400 mile week too (Great Malle Rally etc).

I did 849 km (about 528 miles) from Raymond Terrace NSW to Orbost Victoria in one day on a Buell Ulysses XB12X a few years ago on my way to the Australian round of the Motogp at Philip Island.
The +1 front sprocket suits the bike better, the gearing on mine felt better. Why not try a small screen for a bit of wind protection. I have the triumph comfort seat on and I would say it's a little better than standard but I find a sheepskin makes my bum last longer.
I have done a plus 1 on a couple of my bikes. Makes a big difference
I eventually went minus 3 in the rear (roughly same effect as +1 in front). Cruising is noticeably easier now, and acceleration has not suffered.
Just did 2,200 on a trip, with one 500+ mile day and several 400+. Get an Airhawk for the seat - the smaller cruiser one, not the ADV one. Looks like crap, but your butt will thank you, and can be easily removed and reinstalled for long rides. I also installed a Cobrra chain oiler from Best Rest - simple and avoids the hassle of trying to lube every night. The bike needs a center stand, but it is a great motorcycle and works fine for touring.

I did a 1000 km ride on my ST Sprint, that was a 12 hour trip from Yarrawonga to Adelaide (Australia) along the Murray River, well should I say roads that were as near to the river as practical.

Nice ride. My longest was about 580 miles but it was on a 2018 ultra classic. I’ve always liked speed twin but never have had the opportunity to own one. I’m hoping to change that soon. Thanx again for a great video.
I just put an Atlas throttle lock on,, it seems really expensive but man is it easy to engage and disengage, and therefore worth it in my mind. There are cheaper ones (20$) that will also help with right arm/hand fatigue. They are less easy to use however and take up some grip space.
I installed an Atlas throttle lock on my ST after trying two cheaper throttle locks first. The Atlas works very well.
Did a 1640 km in 24 hours last year on speed twin. Stopped only to refuel. In general its ok, but in my case last 400km was very cold- 4-10 celsius, lots of road constructions and poor lightning.
Fair play to you sir, my ass is done after an hour and a half on my speed twin.

Last year I did a day trip of 644km (402.5 miles) on a 2014 Moto Guzzi V7 Racer. That was loads of fun! until I had to do the last leg of the trip on the highway in the rain.... Oh well, nice memories ;)

@@VanBlamm I had (2) vstrom 650's. The original I think it was a 2002 black, the most comfortable seat of the 15 or so bikes I've owned and a newer 2012, also good. Once I tried the Tiger 800 line I thought this is the motor that 650 wants to be and that was it for me. The seat in both 650's is still more comfortable than the Tiger's.

Awesome bud, I felt your euphoria when you arrived lol...I only ride nakeds and have done many 12 to 13hr days, approx 500 miles but using mainly back roads more than motorways....for me a hydration pack, like camebak etc was a game changer! Gotta stay hydrated even in cool temps. Only eat small snacks as well...My ass is always the 1st to give up, esp on the ST so I'm gonna try a seat pad next!

Hey..finally got the same model of bike as yours..2019 triumph speed twin...and have some of grt modification on it...for my upcoming long bike trip...and yes when I rode down from pune about 1800kms from my place..I was doing the 80 mph or 130kmph as that's the best speed to cruise in..👍🍻

The longest one day ride I've ever done was from Virginia Beach to coastal Alabama. It was 950 miles +/-. I did sounded exactly like you did at the end of the video. The bike was a Russian Ural with a side car. Max speed was 65mph.

Yeah, if you intend to keep your ST, I'd change gearing ratio. I went the opposite way as here in Korea 2-wheeled vehicles are prohibited from highway travel.
Did 3000 miles in 10 days on my 1150gsa a few years back……..8 days hungover. One day was forever going German, CZ, Poland….getting lost in mountains at night then riding into Krakow, parking up and drinking with locals. Then went Slovakia and into Ukraine before heading back to the uk. Had an air hawk for my butt. Two guys, two bikes and beer money. Best days.

In regards to my longest ride as you requested at the end of your video, it was from Norfolk, VA to Malvern, AR on my 1984 Honda Magna V-30 (the lesser known 500cc Magna). I did that trip 3 times.
Now THAT is a seriously long day.
Glad you found me! I have actually started phasing the Duro out because it is simply too big for my 6.25" wrist. It's served me well though, easily the king of $50 divers.
