  • Invented in 1893 by the Maitre d' at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, the Waldorf Salad has become a classic American dish. It's incredibly quick and easy to make, it's fresh and crunchy and quite probably healthy! Apples, grapes, celery, walnuts in a smooth mayonnaise and yoghurt dressing. My first introduction to Waldorf salad was the episode of British sitcom Fawlty Towers where a late-arriving American guest requests a Waldorf salad. Basil is pretty sure they've run out of waldorfs.
    The written recipe for Waldorf Salad is here: keefcooks.com/waldorf-salad-re...

    I make this a lot, I just use Greek yogurt, but I never add grapes, I love it and add it to a meal as a side to anything for summer, fish, ham, chicken... I will always make this.

    What a hoot and a really nice salad. I've had many versions of this thing some had golden raisins and mini marshmallows in it making it duper sweet and syrupy even. Nicely done Keef and glad you both enjoyed it because i know it is so good sweet. savory, crunchy and hits all the notes xx

    I have all the episodes of Fawlty Towers somewhere. There arn't many. They should be required watching.
    I have not seen Seeded Grapes (Red specifically) for a vey long time. Red Seeded Grapes are the juciest in my humble opinion. The seeds crunched up are good for the bowel.

    When I can't find good grapes, I use dried cranberries or dried cherries. If I'm feeling rebellious, I toss in some diced cooked chicken. If I'm feeling oppositional & rebellious, I toss in some cubed tofu (don't judge me lol)

      @@Keefcooks It is a little slow. Ingredients are cooked and cooled new pots, sliced cornichons, quartered cherry tomatoes, peeled and diced apple. Quantities to suit, mix with mayo and dress with chopped parsley and hard boiled egg (if you like), serve with bratwurst 😁

    Nope, hate it. Cant bear sweet with savoury. I know that i'm a bit wierd about this. However i always learn something new when i watch one of your videos, thinking that a bit of yogurt in my mayo might make a prawn cocktail or a tuna salad less "fatty" without having to use the devils condiment low fat mayo.

    • @Keefcooks
      @Keefcooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally I'd agree, sweet and savoury are pretty nasty. But this works really well. IT's also salty from the dressing which is a bit odd till you get used to it.
