@@christophkrass6929 Yea, although that was just a light touching up on the build. A full remake would be more interesting. However he did put in the removal and dual lands.
@jordanshuriken the full rebuild is probably just replace the stone unit with the spider that creates a powerstone, the engineer with the 2 drop that taps for white for artifacts and get the last synthesizers in for the coffin. Then upgrade the sideboard
okay. i really liked the little middle bit, of slightly editing the deck, keeping the memery in, yet adding more propper support. But, the OG deck looks like something you make as a 60 card newbie, after discovering a combo in EDH/Brawl, and building a 60 card deck around. Great video Seth.
I was the white green auras deck, I didn't have Calix in the deck before this game cause I didn't know it existed but added it right after, the deck is much stronger now hahaha
That Hall of Tagsin thing is so relatable. Can I open useful dual lands? Nope, all my rare wildcards go to those. Can I open a full playset of Hall of Tagsin? You bet I can
In Historic, Hall of Tagsin has it's activation cost reduced by 1 and it's actually a powerhouse in go-long decks with artifacts or activated abilities.
@MrNukealizer tell me why i make a meme deck out of that card and every deck i fight is low MMR control where they think spending a counterspell on anything that moves is good magic
I would love to see a version of this series called "From Meme to Dream" where you play the original in the first half and then unveil the improve version for the second half.
That first game really showed off how this deck got places - Simulacrum Synthesizer is a really strong card, the combo itself is pretty strong if you can pull it off, and powerstones are actually pretty decent ramp if you're mostly running artifacts (shame that most of the powerstone-generating cards are so mediocre). I'm just surprised that our friend didn't just stick to mono-blue...
On the red leyline: what blows my mind is that wizards won't print fetch lands in standard because "it leads to a too fast meta that we don't like" And then print cards like this that enable turn 2 wins. Like what? Is that not immediate sirens on "too fast"?
Except the leyline shouldn't be making the games this fast there's just two specifuc red one drops that are problematic with it. In any format without those two red drops it's a relatively fair card.
@@gwenyurick9663 The Red pump spells are also a step or two ahead of where they usually are. +2/0 and permanent +1/+1 + Trample and +3/+0 die into a 2/2 pack a significant punch with good utility. The latter is definitely not critical as the 1-drops, but I think the deck would be significantly less strong without Monstrous Rage as Prowess and Valiant get a lot worse without Trample, though the creatures are definitely the core of the deck. As for Fetches, I don't think it's a format speed thing, it's more that it becomes trivial to build 3+ color manabases if you have dual-basic types in Standard (see Battle for Zendikar Standard). There's also shuffling time concerns in paper where there can be a Fabled Passage or Demo Field, but a full 10 fetchland Standard could really slow how long games take, especially if you do have reasons to run 8-12 fetches.
Fetchlands aren't bad for standard because they're "too fast" (they're no faster than most dual lands), they're bad because they add 10 or so additional shuffles to every match. That adds up over a tournament: a lot of time is spent waiting on your opponent to shuffle instead of playing the game.
A lot of the powerstone cards, including Hall of Tagsin, were buffed in Alchemy. This might have been someone trying to run the deck in 3 year standard after it rotated out of Alchemy.
Wizards announced today that they are "keeping an eye on Leyline of Resonance", so a standard ban in the future is probably going to happen. But it definitely will not happen until at least after World Championships are over. Those leyline red decks are certainly beatable, but that requires all standard decks to run 8-12 cheap removal spells, which severely limits options in deckbuilding.
i'm glad you did a rebuild of the deck, and would be totally cool to see this idea revisted again. also, i absolutely HATE the smiley face system arena occasionally asks you
Loved the rebuild on this deck, Seth. I absolutely love seeing this kind of mechanics on Arena, lol. Especially since I rarely want to do it in paper. Too many triggers and token tracking, but that doesn't mean this isn't fun. With Duskmorne, there's a lot more enchantment removal than there is artifact removal. Which makes this deck a little more viable! Also, I always enjoy watching you review and refine a deck half way into a video. 1+ hours on a video might be long for some, but I love it compared to the short 15 minute videos Crim often submits. Personally, I'd also love to watch him play for 30-60 minutes too, lol.

My favorite part of these videos is always seeing the upgrades and added sideboard items and how they interact. Really cool way to show how a few changes can radically improve a deck
Nexus, if it sticks to trigger once, is a pretty solid card. Replaces itself with the card draw, and go mana-positive by putting in a 7 drop or better. It's just risky if it gets countered or destroyed before you get to trigger it once, making it a very "Boom or Bust" card
Not sure if you forgot or don't know but if you click the number next to the tokens you can have them all block at once instead of clicking each one like you did against that big Dread Knight.
To gang block with a stack of tokens, just click the number of tokens on the stack and click what you want to block. You can also click separate blockers all in a row and then click once on the attacker, and that works too.
43:00 Seth, if you click on the number next to a pile of tokens, you can select all of them. Also, you could have sacced the powerstones to Mondrak, which would have made blocking quite a bit easier.
24:04 - Runs out the thunderhulk instead of keeping up counter mana - Complains that the thunderhulk is bad when you just run it out - Complains that the deck can't do anything early while his opponent dumps their hand, his counterspell rotting in his hand perhaps if you don't spend all your mana on a useless 3/3 you can instead spend it countering you opponent's beaters.
I just noticed you can also exile non-creature artifacts with Nexus. So I guess The Stasis Coffin is in the deck to play as a creature and use as protection. Although the summoning sickness makes it a little slow.
Another supporter of the rebuilding here, too. At the very minimum, filling in the rest of the sideboard seems like a must, but I'm generally a big fan of tweaking it to respond to how it loses in early games.
I think his theory was that, if a certain deck is consistently leading to people not having fun, it can give insight into the idea that a certain deck/play pattern might not be conducive to enjoyable play. Whether that notion is true or not, I can't say, but it does at least make sense logically. In reality, I'm pretty sure they don't need a happy face/frowny face metric to determine if Standard players like turn two losses, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to try.

Plus I've tried to find a deck that 'Hulking Metamorph' could fit well into. This one seems to fit it well. I was thinking that 2× Ojer Taq instead of Mondrak could be more powerful, because one could use Nexus to cast a token copy of it for "free", even though it halves it's power and toughness. But it's just to get its ability to multiply tokens by 3 anyways. Though you didn't seem satisfied with 'Powerstone engineer', I do like the idea of using it as an early blocker for tempo play, and to get that powerstone out of it. But I think that 'Urza, Powerstone Prodigy' might be the better option, because not only can it make powerstones by triggering itself, but it also creates an extra powerstone when using 'Stern Lesson'.

Yeah with some board wipes in the sideboard and a better land base, better removal, I’d watch a whole video of you dishing with a tuned up version of this deck. Seems sick. Wonder what you could do in explorer too…
Good ol' Nexus of Winning. MBM is truly a visionary 🚬
Memes are funny, but making a meme actually work is so much better than playing a precon for 5 games. Please keep doing these, max the mana base, fill out the sideboard, adjust the interaction, than play.
Make a better version of the deck and run it back. The changes helped but with a real side board and trimming a bit of the jank, the deck can be insane.
I love seeing an improved video. Be it in the video or separate.
