    When the user interface is so bad you have to look at a tutorial to move the camera.

    You kinda missed that zbrush will both rotate and zoom around a focal point determined by where your last interaction with the mesh was. So if you are wanting to zoom into the eye for instance, you would not center the eye like you did, instead you would click the eye with your brush, then zoom. Centering the eye on screen has nothing to do with where the camera will zoom. It will zoom in irregardless of position and only dependent on what was clicked last.

    You can also use right click (if your stylus supports that) to drag for rotation and hold alt for panning and alt>release for zoom with the right click held. The advantage of this is that you can do it even while mousing over the sculpt without having to move away.

    3:35 this is what is infuriating me with learning and using Zbrush... Snapping when I hold shift, releasing it cause the camera to jump to a completely different angle and I don't know why or how to stop this.

      hmm. Check you're letting go in the right order.
      Sometimes it can also be a graphic tablet issue.

    The snapping is the best tip here for me. Blender also has a snapping option so I can just sync up movement that way.
    Also clicking the axis on the top right if you want to snap by axis is great too. I have this keybinded on my mmo mouse on blender

    Hello! Maybe this has nothing to do with this video but at this point I’m desperate so I might as well give it a try, do you know if the angle of view of the camera in zbrush affects the final look of the 3D printed sculpture? For example if I use a 28 angle of view... when I print it would it look more or less the way it looks in zbrush? Thank you

    • @colinwilloughby4321
      @colinwilloughby4321 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you’re referring to the focal length of the camera lens, then yes. It will very much affect the look of your model if you sculpt something looking through a focal length of say a 28mm focal length vs something a 85mm focal length. Drastic difference. But if you’re referring to the angle at which you’re looking at your model, so like straight on vs from the side, that will have less of an effect, but you could miss represent the way it looks from the sides you never examined.

    This tutorial is teaching possibly the worst way to navigate... like, ever. If you're a beginner and is struggling with it, here's how you do: Right mouse button.
    That's it. RMB controls the camera without needing to tap on a specific part of the canvas, works anywhere. Ctrl, Shift and Alt are your modifiers, Ctrl zooms, Alt pans and Shift snaps to the nearest axis. Just remap one of the side buttons on your pen to RMB and you're good to go, zbrush's interface is confusing at first but the key is that it's highly optimized around using a tablet rather than a mouse.
    I know the video is 3 years old at this point, but many beginners will end up finding this when looking for tutorials and essentially botch their whole learning experience by using the most ineffective method for possibly the action you do the most in any 3d software.

    • @3dmutiny
      @3dmutiny  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Interesting, but I strongly discourage this.
      A situation where a person can't move on screen due to lack of canvas space is below 1%. Especially given there's a boarder for you to rotate so it's actually closer to 0%
      To assign a pen button for the rest of an artists career to solve a

      @@taylorroddinI'll share my experience vs 1 software tool developer writing documents
      I've taught 1000s of students face to face dealing with navigation. Left handed, right handed, visually impaired, some requiring specialised keyboards, screen tablets, learning difficulties. Each one is tailored to the specific needs of the individual.
      If there's one thing I know deeply it's this subject.
      As an overwhelming majority, they prefer to use the method outlined above. In the range of 80%+
      I've also working in countless studios, I've never seen a AAA artist use pen buttons for basic functions.
      What the website says is irrelevant. It's purely dependant on personal preference and logical efficiency.

    this camera movement is such a pain in the ass. It's not only difficult, but totally unusable without a skill. Like really, it just speaks for itself, when you need a whole video about mastering a camera movement. Like, I play many games oriented about building some vehicles, etc. Like Space Engineers, From the depths, Kerbal Space program, Automation. And I just don't need a whole tutorial to use the camera. Same for 3DS max, I just try some keys, and it just works. But Zbrush? Not only the keys are very unintuitive, but they don't just work properly. Like, when you hold Alt, and right click to move, if you release alt before right key, it just superzooms, instead od moving, like in literally every other software. Why can't they just make it not matter which key you release first? Also, let's say they can't. So why the hell I can't just edit the hotkeys, like in literally every program???? It's so sad, because the software is powerful, but such a pain in the ass to learn.

    • @3dmutiny
      @3dmutiny  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ye, it's super frustrating at first. You're not wrong.
      Give it some time and you'll start to see the method in the madness. A lot of their camera movements have been designed with the pen in mind.
      Once you're used to it, navigation becomes second nature like moving your arm.
      Hopefully the practice techniques help everyone get used to it quicker.
