  • I installed a Diamondback Tonneau cover (DYI), Yakima rail system and Tepui tent to my 2019 Toyota Tacoma. Subscribe for future 4X4 off road adventures along with hiking and more.
    The Diamondback HD diamondbackcovers.com/product...
    I went with the Yakima rails so my tent would be low profile. I did not want the tent to be much higher than the cab.
    I selected the 3 person TEPUI tent. There is really no way to put 3 adults in it comfortably but I knew if I got a 3 person, I would not have any issues with having plenty of room.

    I had Rack Attack of Pasadena do the install. They did a bang up job. They are easy to work with! www.rackattack.com/info/store...

    Amazing video. I finally found what I envisioned. In the spring I’m picking up a 2020 Tacoma off-road and wanted the diamondback and roof top tent but don’t know how it would look. Subscribed.

      Thank you. I did a lot of research and upgraded from a 2014 Tacoma. I am very happy with the Diamondback and it is a bit more secure than most covers. I also wanted the tent but not up 18 inches or more with typical rails. By using the Yakima system the tent is barely above the roof of the cab and has very little wind drag. I have since added some more stuff like a slimline front bumper and I am adding sliders. I will do a short video showing that when the sliders arrive.

      Yes! I'm definitely doing sliders and skids. Don't really need them here in Florida, sand doesn't hurt much. But next summer I'm doing my bucket list trip to Colorado to run Black Bear pass among others. I decided not to do a lift. To many potential problems since 99 percent of miles are gonna be on the highway. I think as long as you're not going to do all out rock crawling our trucks are more then capable enough the way they sit.

    • @DigginSoCalOutdoorAdventures
      @DigginSoCalOutdoorAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes....The first time I went camping it was a pain in the back side. I had to pull everything out. As long as you pack knowing you only have one point of entry to your equipment in the truck bed it becomes easy. I keep the stuff I need first in the front of the bed. I have camped numerous times and it is easy now.

  • @mikemead2315
    @mikemead2315 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The one thing I have been struggeling with is once the tent is mounted on the Diamondback, bed access is from the back tailgate only even when the tent is folded. Looking for some kind folded-tent tilting to get better front bed access at least during camp setup/takedown. Or sliding trays. But went with the Diamondback specifically for front bed access.

    • @DigginSoCalOutdoorAdventures
      @DigginSoCalOutdoorAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct. Once the tent is on the cover you have no other access. I pack for my trips with that in mind. I put the items less likely to be needed in back. It has been a slight pain but on the other hand, it does provide for better security. It is def a trade off. I have gotten used to it.

    I have a 2019 TRD OR about 98 percent same as yours. Seemingly the only differences are our choices in tonneau cover and side steps. I want to get the ruggedized version of the Kukenam 3 as I live in Canada because I want to camp out in more seasons than just summer. I'm very interested in your ability to zip up the tent in the area behind the cab. Is it hard to reach in there? When you fold and close up the tent, do you have squish the fabric in between the tent and the back glass? And how's your ability to reach that area? And are you able to deploy the window awning over the cab? Looks like you should be able to get at least one metal pole inserted. Great video!

    • @DigginSoCalOutdoorAdventures
      @DigginSoCalOutdoorAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just looked up the Kukenam 3...Pretty cool stuff. Yeah I debated going cover or rails for a long time. In the end, I wanted the tent low as possible because I tend to drive long distances and didn't want the tent above the cab. ALL great ideas and choices. I don't really use it on rocks but the rails are just incase. I drug the factory steps in dirt a few times.
