Station Eleven is a great read - I would definitely recommend it. Adding The Power and The End We Start From to my must-read list now!

Sounds like in Vox it would be hard to create a bond with your kid if society teaches them to respect you less -- a good exploration of stuff I probably take for granted as a man.
Normal way of things also sounds really harrowing to bring to light those stories in such an understated way.
    Thanks for the recommendations!

I LOVED Station Eleven, had some issues with Vox and *hated* quite a lot of The Power. But then I also, despite the great premise, hated the execution of The Handmaid's Tale. Only Ever Yours, The Farm, The End We Start From and The Natural Way of Things (I'm nervous about this one) are all on my radar though.
Red Clocks by Leni Zumas also deserves a mention here, as does XX by Angela Chadwick and The Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh (both of which I've yet to read) as they all fit the bill. TFS :)

I really want to read XX! And yes, loved The Water Cure too, what a weird and interesting book.

I love the sound of salt slow and the end we start from!! I don't know how my dystopian misery I can handle in the current times but those sounded fun!

I know what you mean, sometimes the dystopian misery gets a bit much and so the cool subversive ones are just what I need

Stop Your Women's Ears With Wax is without a doubt the most rock n' roll short story I've ever read. Julia Armfield is great 🤘

The Power is amazing and Vox is fascinating and harrowing. Other good ones for this list are also The XX and Red Clocks which are both on my tbr and I’ve only heard good things about them 🙂

My friend gave her boyfriend a static shock twice in one day and convinced herself the Power was coming true!! It's such a brilliant book. Thanks for lots more great recommendations as usual!
