    Even though some things are a little different between the way the US does it and Australia does it, it's nice to see the similarities between them! Great video -loved the editing!

    I was just wondering on what subjects you chose for VCE/HSC/IB to make medicine a bit easier. Is doing all the sciences (chemistry, biology, physics) necessary or will doing two of them suffice?

    • @ArcherNewton
      @ArcherNewton  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Audrey, you’ll have to check with each university’s entry requirements. Some have subject prerequisites and some have pre assumed knowledge. Typically biology and chemistry are useful, but definitely check with each uni individually :)

    Hi, I am in year 11. I would like to know more about year 13. do you mean if I repeat year 12 will I still have to take English and go to school like a normal year 12 or is it going to be different? did you graduate from a private school or a government and does it really matter on getting high or low atar? thanks

    • @ArcherNewton
      @ArcherNewton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I am not sure how it works in your state but I think if you have completed english you don’t have to do it again. I graduated from a private school, and realised that it can be easier to get a high ATAR because of the support provided. However, I don’t think a government school necessarily limits you, you can still achieve as high as you want, but it will require you to be a bit more of an independent learner. Good luck!

      Hi Khadija! Good idea - the main thing is just to understand the foundations of everything you learn (the WHY) and then supplementing this with plenty of practice problems varying in difficulty. Hope this helps!

    Hey Archer! I am currently studying year 12 this year but am planning on sitting the UCAT next year. I was wondering if you knew what preferences I should put down on my Uni application? Do I still put Doctor of medicine or just choose another course and try to transfer?

    • @ArcherNewton
      @ArcherNewton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! You can still put it up as your top preferences but what were you planning to do as another course? I personally would have redone some year 12 subjects in year 13 and focused the whole year on the UCAT to make sure that I would get in the next round.

    • @brodyvincent3119
      @brodyvincent3119 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Archer Newton so basically I wanted to focus on year 12 this year then study for the UCAT next year whilst doing either a physiotherapist or paramedic course, sit the UCAT next year then transfer into medicine the year after. However I don’t know whether or not to put it as a preference or not as I have not sat the UCAT yet

    • @ArcherNewton
      @ArcherNewton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In that case, it would just end up being a wasted preferences as they will just reject you for not meeting the prerequisites (i.e. not sitting the UCAT). Have you considered the alternative path of not heading straight into a degree? Your choices for undergrad med schools to apply to once in your first year of uni decreases significantly, including chances. Please let me know if you have any questions!

    • @ArcherNewton
      @ArcherNewton  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Skipz, it really depends on your subjects but anything from B to A- should get you an 85 (try for A's to keep it safe). Thanks!

      @@ArcherNewton thinking of going this route, but it would be harder to get into med since getting a high gpa in eng is much harder than in med science.

    • @ArcherNewton
      @ArcherNewton  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lavaboy1565 I agree that engineering was conceptually harder but in med sci, it's extremely competitive since everyone is trying to get into medicine. So while it may be easier, you gotta try even harder to do better than the rest. Also it's kinda hard to comment since the variability between many unis' degrees for eng and med sci change all the time. Even if med sci is easier, I'd still choose something with a job at the end of the line instead of med sci, nursing, speech path, etc etc

    • @lavaboy1565
      @lavaboy1565 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArcherNewton oh I was under the impression that med schools don’t care about the degree you are doing, but rather the gpa of the degree u r doing

    • @ArcherNewton
      @ArcherNewton  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lavaboy1565 They don't for the most part. They do offer some sub quotas for people who do medical science degrees for example, but I don't think it's worth the risk of graduating without a good job at the end of the line. In terms of actually comparing student to student, yes they just care about the gpa.
