Not only was this fight absolutely insane, but it causes you to look at it completely differently once you read Typhon’s entry and learn that he wasn’t an actual person, but basically just a puppet that Ultima was controlling in order to merge with Clive.
Probably the most discomforting boss I've experienced in FF I felt the same too, he's almost like a computer but just creepy as shit. As soon as you see him it's like "Oh God no please" especially coming after the dragon, he was definitely unexpected. He's actually a good difficulty jump too. First time I had to retry a fight, and he's far from the toughest. XVI killed it when it came to setting up the Eikon fights, most immersive and fleshed out fight scenes out of any FF game period lol.
Makes sense if you think at it. Typhon was literally a failed Mythos, while Clive was one who made it. Ultima used his broken vessel to test the new one, so it makes sense Clive completely demolished it once he realised what the pacing of the fight was.

I'm sure other FF games would have accomplished this too but it was an early era of CD's still. Only FF music sells like crazy in the game industry. No other franchise in gaming history compares to the FF ost's.
Can we address that Ifrit is the most agile Eikon in the game! After Clive got into really controlling him he got a massive upgrade. I mean what other Eikon do you see doing pyrosaults! Also Ifrit speed blitzes Garuda, the Eikon of WIND, and he is running and flipping and jumping and dodging all over titan in his boss fight. Ifrit isn’t the biggest, but he just may be the fastest
One of my favourite parts about this fight is the bit before where you clearly see just how big typhon is. Then when you become ifrit you are the same size as them. Really helps put into context how big all this stuff is compared to a normal guy.

I love how unnatural the music sounds being in a game like ff16. Granted scifi elements have been a thing since the very first game but fighting an god’s alien avatar in a setting that’s medieval just hits different
Typhon the Transgressor - the name suggests that Typhon is a member of Ultima's race who was for some reason excommunicated or cast out. Interesting correlation - since Joshua also makes mention of 'The Lost Eikon - Leviathan'
typhon is essentially the dark thunder eikon, akin to Clive's Dark Fire Eikon. It would be cool but be a break in the storys continuity to expand upon this with other Dark Eikons in game's dlc
Watching this, I had the thought: you know what would be awesome? A Final Fantasy fighting game with the summons fighting. Like… Final Fantasy: Dissidia Eikonoclast or Eikonoclash or something like that. This fight and Titan’s are the best ones and really let Ifrit shine as a bad ass. I wish there’d been a fight with Ifrit and Shiva teaming up like with Ifrit and Phoenix.
They NEED to creat a proper FF fighting game like SOUL CALIBUR. Seriously, what a missed opportunity. Square doesn't realize just how much money this thing would make. Dissidia is just not gonna cut it. I mean, I'm talking about a sword to sword fighter pitting Cloud vs Sephiroth. And you can even add a version of OmniSlash as Cloud's super charged move like they got in Tekken 7/SCVI. I can only dream of a videogame like this with character models like FF7R.

What they have here with FFXVI's mechanics can make for a good 1 v 1 game and its own story-driven monster game. Eg: I can see a scenario where it's Godzilla and Rodan vs. King Ghidorah taking heavy inspiration from the Ifrit and Phoenix vs. Bahamut fight.

Agreed. The heavy synth here compared to the normal orchestral boss theme for Akashic Dragon really plays well with the otherworldly battlefield, while also hinting at the true nature of Ultima. It starts with choir appropriate for a deity...until suddenly it isn't. It's fantastically done and made me double take the first time due to how amazing it was.
@TheAdventGamer Torgal minion and Ambrosia mount. I also want Jill's outfit for my Miqo'te. I do wonder how well the fights would translate though, I think Typhon would translate pretty well into an FF14 fight but something like Garuda, Titan, Bahamut, or Ifrit would lose some of the scale and feel that you get in 16 because of how vastly different both are. FF14 is an mmo, and it's by the very nature of its gameplay and how old it is that it's a lot less fluid in comparison to FF16.

The first phase sounds like CC..12yl from Gundam Hathaway mixed with Shin Megami Tensei. Big fan of both composers, 16 is like Hathaway while 14 is like Unicorn in terms of style and quality on how both artists’ music evolve toward their career.
From the trailers I knew Clive was gonna get a lightning Eikon so I was afraid Cid will die. Then this dude shows up and Im super hopeful that we get to use him and I ignore Cid's obvious death flags... I still wish it were the case
FFX for sure but FF13???? My god for me FF13 was the first FF ost that was simply "meh" to me with one of the most annoying battle themes on the face of the planet. I cannot play that game because of the battle music. Over and over again it just makes me fucked up. lol. But to each their own.
Awesome to see players who are actually good at videos games. I mean, I did the beat the game and am midway in my 2nd playtrough on FF mode, but I'm so bad at evasion and not getting hit. Even If I know the movements of the enemy, always hitting that button too soon or too late. xD
this fight was a lot of fun, was fun actually being able to move as ifrit, while the clunky feel of the ifrit v garuda really showed how new clive was to it. This show cases he's actually doin shit for real. I loved it a lot.
More like Clive being new, I think the fight was so slow because they were literally fighting inside The Eye of the Tempest, so Ifrit was massively weighed down.

In the encyclopedia lore bits it said that Ultima just wore Typhon's flesh to test Clive. As to what Typhon truly is, not sure. Maybe it's the same species as Ultima.

Ifrit is also the smallest Eikon. The others are always a lot bigger than him. But big also equals slow. Sometimes small and agile is better.

it was really cool to realise that ultima's final form resembles typhon's second phase a lot.
Maybe the flame of Ifirit was all i needed to keep my heart burning for FF14 again.
You can definitely tell they pulled a lot from FFXIV to put into FFXVI. Personally I love it.
