The Wanapitei River is absolutely mesmerizing! 🌊🏞 The flowing waters, rugged landscapes, and natural beauty make it such a serene and adventurous spot. Perfect for paddling, exploring, or just soaking in the tranquility of nature! 🚣♂🌿 Stay connected!
Thank You Daryl 🙂👍Love your Kayaking Adventures the drone shots are Beautiful. Beautiful spot for Kayaking I bet there are some good fishing holes there just below the Rapids. Another Awesome Adventure Thanks from NB Canada🙂💙👍
Call it what you will, but that sure is one beautiful spot... It's just so interesting. A great paddle, beautiful scenery and some thought-provoking information... Exactly... Thanks for that buddy, Jim 😊✌️
Always a dam good time! lol It's amazing the amount of history is found in areas like this all over, especially along waterways. Lots of beauty to be discovered...wonderful!!
Lol! Yes, the little bits of history are what I like to dig up when I visit a new or unfamiliar place. It keeps my mind a little, very little, sharper. 😀
Lovely views on your kayaking trip. The Canadian Geese are making their way down to us for the winter. They love hanging out at Capitol Lake here in Pierre, South Dakota. ❤ I'm not sure what I'd call that flowing water. It could be all three. 😂 Great video. 😊👍 -Rachel
Hi Daryl. I can only imagine that you have a bunch of snow up there by now. I’d love to film these rapids / waterfalls and river area. Hope all is well. 👍47
Hi Craig. Good to hear from you. Yes, we have about six inches of snow on the ground already. I hope all is well at your end. I haven't filmed much lately either, I reduced my publishing to bi-weekly a few months ago so I'm still working through my backlog of content. Thanks for visiting!
What a beautiful place! By those definitions I think you were looking at the Fly North Waterchute Rapidfalls. Interesting about the builders and the connection to Thomas Edison. Great dam video!
I've been to this spot on land only, chasing after trains of course. Whenever I see a small waterfall I'm always inclined to call it a cascade, though I suppose by definition, that would generally refer to a series of small drops rather than one on its own. Maybe we should all just adopt 'water droppy thingy' as a safe universal term 😂 thanks for the adventure as always!
Lovely scenery! Rapids seems most appropriate in my opinion. Interesting history on the dam. My late husband's grandfather was a carpenter superintendent for the building of the Shasta Dam in California.
You may well be right about them being rapids Lynda, a few people are leaning toward that assessment. Interesting to learn about your husband's ancestry. I wonder if today's generations truly appreciate the ingenuity and hard work that went into creating such impressive hydro electric plants that continue to power our world to this day. Thanks for watching.
@@flynorthproductions They are truly amazing engineering! That the concrete in some of those large dams (ie Hoover dam) requires decades to cure, and still curing after 80 plus years blows my mind. The dam just gets stronger with age.
I loved seeing you kayak. The water is really too cold to kayak here until spring because I dont own a drysuit. I enjoyed seeing that paddling experience through your video. I think they could be classified as all three. I liked the drone shots to see the rapids araa from above.
Thanks very much! That water was still pretty warm in September but we stayed close to shore anyway, just in case. I don't have the proper suit for kayaking in the cold either but maybe someday. Thanks for watching!
An interesting bit of history and insight! Falls, chutes, rapids. Even with the definitions, I can imagine that there would still be disagreement as to what moniker to apply to what sets of water. And I like it that way! It gives us canoeists (and even kayakers :p) something to discuss riverside - like a riddle to be solved. Love the island view @2:13 and the dam(n) aerial shots. And, whatever you choose to call that bit of water, we can all agree that it a lovely rapidwaterfallchute. Cheers!
Yeah, even the commenters seem to be undecided a little. Even 'kayakers'? 😅 You may be glad to hear I have a canoe-paddling video coming out later on, in the old Grumman, and a another trip on Georgian Bay with a friend paddling his singe-person canoe. I'm still waiting eagerly for you to do a trip out there, I think you'd make an awesome video of it. Cheers. ~ Daryl
@@flynorthproductionsHey! At least I didn't say "Dam(n) Kayakers! 😅That is great that you have two more vids in the pipeline and I will definitely look forward to seeing your ol' Grumman on the water again. Georgian Bay is on the list for 2025! Thanks for making the suggestion! T.
Sure is a beautiful river! Great that you can portage around the dam and kayak the whole length. Interesting question about the water feature- I would probably guess rapids? if so class 5 or 6! It would be hard to get through there!! Enjoyed the video, thanks!!
Lol! I sure wouldn't attempt running those rapids either. The consensus seems to be 'rapids' with a few calling it a 'chute.' I guess I'll never know for sure. Thanks for watching, Jen.
I've paddled to this exact spot with my good friend Mike Fox and I would classify this as a rapid leading into an unrunable chute because it doesn't have enough height to make it a waterfall ('fall' being the operative word). It might be runable in high water but would require great canoe or kayak paddling prowess and even then I would still call it a chute. The area where the McVittie dam was placed was most likely a "pinch point' and small waterfall on the Wahnapitae River providing sufficient flow & drop to place a dam for hydroelectric power generation. I've also paddled below the dam to the Killarney road. There is another major chute about 1 km below the dam that must be portaged to continue on to the Killarney road. We also paddled back up river to the dam, which was quite strenous, but we did make it. Keep these video coming.
You may well be right about the description of this feature, I really don't know but agree, it's probably not a waterfall. I might try the lower section you mentioned, one day. I've seen the big chute at the Killarney highway on foot but am curious what the sections above and below that look like as well. Thanks again for watching!
Great video, Daryl! As always, my Monday mornings are greatly enhanced by a Fly North video. Another awesome adventure. Beautiful spot! It's interesting to learn about the different categories of white water. Would that be chutes, do you think? All the best!
Thanks Jeff! I'll put you down as one vote for Chute. I really don't know myself but that would probably be my guess as well. I hope you have a great week. ~ Daryl
Thanks. Yes, there's a clearing for about 4 vehicles on the left, just before you arrive at the main gate to the power station. You have to walk across an active railway line to get your canoe/kayak to the shore but it's only about a 30m or so walk from the parking area.
@flynorthproductions Awesome thanks for the reply! I used to visit the dam when I was a kid and there wasn't a gate or any fencing keeping you out. You could walk around freely including right up to the building. I'm glad to hear you can still access the river there.

Thanks Robert. Yes, I bet the fishing is pretty good there. I found an old broken fishing rod on the shore nearby. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for taking us along, Daryl. I love all that drone work. Great work!
Thanks very much!
We really like your "Dam" videos 🙂.
The drone shots were awesome again 👏

Awesome spot Daryl, I have spent countless hours fishing that upper set of rapids, and even more time below fishing the dam👍
I figured there must be some good fishing around there. I hope to get below the dam next season. Thanks Janson.
Loved the rapids, waterfalls, whatever and your drone shots of them and the surrounding area. Lots of beauty filmed Daryl. Great job.
Thanks Kathleen. Looking forward to watching your video this week. Cheers. ~ Daryl

It's a very beautiful scenery. You enjoy a wonderful adventure. Thank you for sharing the video. Your new friend❤❤❤
Thank you very much.
You had such a beautiful day for this kayaking adventure. The river is beautiful and just reminds so much of Northern Minnesota. 😊👍
We sure did, thanks. I agree, I watch some content from creators in Minnesota and the landscape is almost identical. Thanks again!
That was a pretty great day out there for a paddle🛶
This as a dam good video😁
Thanks for taking us out to this beautiful country, Daryl😃
You're a very punny guy, Age. Thanks, as always. I hope you're enjoying the great outdoors this week.
You never fail to make me laugh, learn and love your videos with the beautiful scenary :)
I really appreciate that - thank you! I hope you're planning some more kayaking trips for next season. Cheers. Daryl

It's a nice place to bet stuck. The rapids are beautiful 😊
Lol, yes it really is a good place to be stuck. Thanks for the visit.
I've looked at that spot a few times. Always wondered about trespassing. Thanks for clearing it up :)
Yeah. I'm still not sure how to get below the dam but there must be a trail/easement somewhere there. Thanks for checking it out. ~ Daryl

Great drone footage, love the island
I thought chute was the French word for waterfall
I think you're right about the translation, Roni. That's a good point! Thanks.

It’s a class 6 Swift 😆
Lol! More like a Class 60 swift. 😆
Nice video! Were you able to park and launch right at the dam?
Thanks. Yes, there's a clearing for about 4 vehicles on the left, just before you arrive at the main gate to the power station. You have to walk across an active railway line to get your canoe/kayak to the shore but it's only about a 30m or so walk from the parking area.

What kind of camera do you use for your kayaking videos? Is it some model of GoPro?
Hi. I just upgraded my camera to a DJI Osmo 4. Very happy with the colour depth. Thanks for asking.
Oh, I'm first! And I'm watching! -Rachel
Lol - thanks Rachel!
dam - shiut - its a rapid until it becomes a fall and if you fail to make the distinction before you'r wet then it's too lake to ask
Fair point - I won't be attempting to run that regardless of its name. I hope all is well. Thanks!
