What special educator you are! I'm not in the US but you're my real teacher. Everything I do in class is to find out what that lesson is about and then when I get home, I can see if Paul Andersen has done a lesson about it. If so, then it's perfect.
I got 2 F's on my AP bio tests because my teacher wasnt helpful and the study guides were bad bad bad. But then she introduced us to you(best thing she ever done). Now I am getting B's and A's :DD
I'm so grateful for these videos. I have trouble understanding science (understanding processes, not memorizing vocabulary) so these really help, especially the animations, breaking down the meaning of the terms, and pictures.
dude you are a freakin beast of a biology teacher. Keep up the good work because it is sure very useful and helpful information so much good detail packed in this video.
This is all so amazing: Both that these structure/processes exist AND the fact the scientists figured out that they do exist and how they work. Give me science over dogma any day of the week; it lets us see the ultimate and primal beauty in nature.
Yet again, I'm sure you get this a lot, and I swear i won't comment on all of your videos I watch, but you are just such a great teacher with this topic. Concepts I understand from class are explained thoroughly in your videos giving me a mastery of the concepts. I feel as though you condense the subject and expand upon the important points that are taught somewhat well in my 2 hour class in a few 10-minute videos.
@Monkey D. Luffy Water molecules can move through with the help of aquaporin which is a protein that transports water from one side of the membrane to the other and it also regulates how much water can be transported. Water is unable to move through the membrane because it is polar so it has to go through by using the aquaporin.
anyone else watching these before the test on monday? my teacher played a couple of his videos but I don't understand most of the stuff in class so i just decided to try and watch as many as I can.
life saver before test :D thank you soooo much, my teacher doesn't teach at all, just give us a worksheet and test =___= but you're a life save! love you!
one thing is that the phospholipids shown around 5:36 in the photo have saturated fats due to the double carbon bond with one less hydrogen creating the bent shape. The phospholipids typically have unsaturated fats making the fatty acids straight and not bent.
Simply brilliant! Very insightful, and perfect for people starting anykind of bio-chemistry lessons weather it is in university or highschool! More lessons would be fanstastic, made in the excat same way!
What he seems to be referring to is the "partial" charge of the polar side. If something has a partial charge, it creates a "dipole moment" and therefore is polar. The unequal sharing of electrons can cause a partial negative, or partial positive charge.
water molecules have a charge, they are polar that's why the charged heads of the phospholipids all face toward the water that's outside and inside the cell while the tails face each other the charged heads are attracted to the charged water aquaporin is correct, it provides a "shield" from the non-polar tails
An alternative could be Open Broadcasting Software. It can do all of that, and multiple elements can be moved around in your videos. E.g. more than just your screen and webcam, you can add in other stuff.
As a freshman, this is more reliable than the textbooks.
as a junior now, i 100% agree, and it's super helpful in AP Bio
dude im in 7th grade and this was assigned to watch -_-

lazy teacherism brought me here
i never thought the channel was that popular

cant say how much you have impacted young aspiring students around the world or at least in the U.S thank you for everything!
I spilled water over my biology book and have a test tomorrow.. You're my saviour! Thank you, your videos are great

You are an awesome instructor! The way you explain things really helps the information stick. Thank you so much!
Thank you Mr. Andersen! It's my pressure for us to watch this.
I have a test on cell membranes on Tuesday and this is such a great way to revise, rather than just copying down notes. Thanks!
did it cover everything you needed on the test?
Pretty much, yes!
dude you are a freakin beast of a biology teacher. Keep up the good work because it is sure very useful and helpful information so much good detail packed in this video.
I got 2 words to describe this lesson: absolutely magnificant

These podcasts are so good that my teacher doesnt teach us she just tells us to watch these at home and do worksheets in class
@100PercentGreen I use Screenflow to do the recording. It records the computer screen and the webcam simultaneously.
I am in college and this helped me a BUNCH- Now I'm off to find more or your videos covering everything else I need to know! Thanks a lot!

Thank you. I have no experience in cells at all but your video helped me to understand it. be back to re play it, if you do not mind.
If we could gain all this knowledge from you in 20 minutes, I wonder how much knowledge we would get if you lectured us for an hour LOL.
Please don't stop making videos before I graduate XD
awesome video i totally get it now! im in molecular but didn't learn much in my previous bio classes on cell membranes so this hit the spot!

For the Sodium-Potassium pump, you can remember it as the cell membrane saying "NAw" for sodium and "oKay" for potassium.
You're an awesome teacher
I really enjoy your videos, but I'd just add to this one that its only Gram + Bacteria that have cell walls. Keep up the good vids!
