I always liked the F/A cars back in the 60's. The one class that was always scary. Even a "normal" run seemed like control was dubious at best. It was like......go A to B with the most chaos possible. Half the time just getting across the finish line was a challenge. Loved it. Glad to see there are still crazies out there. Kudos and congrats.

Built with a Funny Car chassis. This is a short wheelbase slingshot Top Fueler. I would love to see them in a third nitro class in NHRA competition.

The Fuel Altereds ran in the NHRA "Altered Eliminator" class, which was removed by the NHRA in1972. So this car is an "Outlaw" kind of car not recognized in the NHRA rulebook per se.

Todays AA/FA's are nothing more than a funny car chassis with somewhat of a gasser body. I grew up living across from Rich Guasco, back in the 60's and 70's, when fuel altered cars had short wheel bases, small bodies, were squirrelly as hell and nothing like the long wheel bases of AA/FA's today.

I go way back to when Fuel Altereds ran "stock" wheelbase and we're fought for control all the way down the track with exploding engines. I still remember having a Fiat coupe driver tell me "to drive one of these things you have to like being boiled in oil".😮

I would love to see the NHRA bring this back as a third blown nitro class. So what if the wheel bases are longer and they are essentially Funny Car chassis with classic "bodies"? Those of you decrying the demise of cars like the old Winged Express, Nanook, and others need to remember that even Top Fuel cars have evolved since then. As have Funny Cars. 240" wheelbases on Top Fuel cars, bodies that are unrecognizable as any road going car on Funny Cars (and much longer wheelbases there as well). Nobody is going to drive a 120" wheelbase car with 11,000 modern horsepower. I would love to see some semblance of the old T-buckets, Fiat Topolinos, Anglias, Willys, and other old AA/FA bodies, even if on modern Funny Car chassis.

This was 1320 feet. Top Fuel and Funny Cars went to 1000 ft. because they couldn't get them stopped any more. Too many cars were running into the sand traps.

While this one rather distinct & seemmingly incorporates funny car chassis with a wing, altered still expresses imagination & innovation pursued by the enthusiasts.
