I bought finnish beers in germany, some months ago. I could only get Koff, Karhu and Karjala. Now I'm drinking a Schlenkerla Rauchbier while watching. Suomi!
Well personally I always enjoy an old faithful Karhu after a good sauna. It's surpricingly refreshing then... Koff has a great porter, which we drink in our Porter & Stout episode. The standard lager is very bland. Same goes for Karjala. In a feature episode wer'e going to compare two Finnish craftbreweries to each other. Hopefully you'll find that one interesting.
@@jarnovilen5259 not if you miss Finland! I have my "backbone" stem beers that I drink a lot. Then other beers are like the flowers. I even consider finnish beers as such. Finland has good water and talent.
All the basic lager beers are almost the same, I dislike Koff the most though but it is really close to Karjala, Olvi, Karhu & Lapinkulta still. I'm Not counting garbage tier lagers like Lidl Olut, Pirkka Lager or Rainbow Lager etc.

We drove our camper three weeks this summer. I love Finland and the culture and found a new favourite city of Tempere I would love to visit again. You guys have world leading in almost any other culture establishment. However, the beer made me a bit disappointed, I expected better. That's why I was so happy TH-cam algorithm found me your channel! The normal beer you buy on tap in bars are unfortunately quite boring and low variety. Always Karhu lager. I would give it 1,5 on your scale. When comparing to Sweden we have at least 5-6 different low prices tap beer and if you don't like the one at this bar just go to the bar next door for another. Norrlands guld, Sofiero, Mariestad, Pistonhead, Falcon, Bryggmästaren, Eriksberg, Mellerud, the list is quite long. It might be a story here? And maybe a suggestion for an episode if you haven't made it already - cheap* canned beer commonly serviced on tap in Finland? (* A beer for €10 isn't cheap even if it's Karhu, but ridiculous prices at the bar all nordic have in common. )

I think that some of the breweries that are brewing according to the reinheitsgebot could manage that. Koulu, residing in Turku perhaps would be a recommendation in this case. They have some experience in this field. Their beers are coming up in a future episode, quite soon. Hope I could answer your questions.
I think TH-cam is not as actively promoting alcohol-related content, as it would recommend family-friendly content. And also niche content, as is beer related stuff, is probably not the most popular category of TH-cam.

In a way, I can totally understand your philosophy, but at the same time it leads to a situation where almost any good, really good or almost excellent beer is in three to four out of five range. The question therefore is, how to judge any difference between most of the beers you review, as they mostly are in the middle of the pack.

Finland is a third world country when it comes to beers, we all have to admit that. But we do also have good beers, they are just quite hard to find since they are hiding among the huge masses of subpar Finnish beers.

Both Sweden and Estonia have some really internationally successful craft breweries like Omnipollo and Pöhjala. Sweden also boasts a total amount of 500 or so breweries, which is a lot in comparison to the population. All these countries also have had success in beer innovation and all have been able to adapt fast in a world with constantly changing beer trends. On top of this the nordic of quality standards such as hygien and usage of top notch high tech equipment is world class. So on and so forth.

You can go and grab almost any beer and they all are at least ok. There is a HUGE difference but that is understandable, the history for example in Germany is like thousands years older etc.
True that. But hey Germany is one of the prime beer countries in the world. Of course if you compare the nordics to the best beer countries, ofc the Nordics will easily rank as second best. Also have to take in consideration that the Nordics have way smaller population and as you already said a much younger beer culture. If you take those things in consideration Nordics fare rather well.

Karjala is equal to Turku tap water. it's aquired taste. You first hate it, and then you grow to apreciate it. in my experience
