Too many JELD-WEN factory defects; our new Premium Vinyl windows are TERRIBLE (070)

- We complete our installation of Jeld-Wen Premium Vinyl windows, and we discover multiple manufacturing defects. In total, 5 of our 12 windows left the Jeld-Wen factory with defects, and every window has caulk squeeze-out.

Hello, Thank you for sharing, OMG I had the same issues. Also they shipped mine without protection as well as no instructions. They did my first custom window and it was a mess when it arrive at Menards. I had to wait for this window 30 days. So, when the window arrived to the hardware store it had scratches in the brown exterior trim, which I had to pay extra for been a two tone window. The hardware store re-order me a second window...a redo order. But unfortunately the second one arrived in the same worse conditions as the first one. So disappointed. I called the Jeld-wen Company, and yes the service representative was very nice and understanding. However, this is not the person manufacturing nor packaging the window to ship it.
I must say it is unfortunate; and I have to say that the Jeld-Wen windows I purchased from from of the shell at Menards hardware store before this custom made order were better protected then my $500.00 window. I can understand the company making a mistake once, but making the same mistake twice with the same issues; it has a lot to tell about the production team management.
I was about to pick up a jeld wen v-2500 sliding door. Great seeing this video. I opted out. I had been hearing rumors of Jeld-wen widows and doors taking a dive on quality control in the last year. Thanks for the video confirmation

Saved me a lot of money and headaches.
Glad we could help. Building material quality has been a general disappointment though our entire build. But doors and windows have been our biggest disappointment of all. If you find something nice, please let us know.
Thanks for the insights on these ubiquitous windows. Maybe there is a labour shortage issue affecting these windows, like it affects so much else these days? OTOH I just had a quote from Anderson for replacement of 6 windows. $20,000 cdn ($16,000 USD)! Ouch. So ~$3k per window for simple slider-windows installed. Meanwhile HD has Jeld Wen windows as low as $250 each for. 48 x36 slider. It's a factor of 10 and the install is not a big job either. I think I can live with trimming a little squeeze out and stretching a parallelogrammed frame to save 5 figures on my windows!
Thank you, I was looking at these in a local big box store and will skip them. A nearly 50% defect rate is not acceptable, even if their customer service was amazing, which doesn't seem to be the case.
Yeah. It was disappointing. We eventually got replacements, but then you have to rip out the bad windows and reinstall, which is just so terribly inconvenient. We won’t use Jeld-Wen again. I have no faith in their QA process.
Wow, thats terrible. I bought a new builder grade home with Jeld Wen windows and doors a year ago. I live in a townhouse, so I dont have a lot of windows to begin with. 3 out of 7 windows or doors have some issues with them. Two glass panels had some type of stain within the glass. One window was leaking. The front door seal had a gap. All of these issues could have been caught easily with QC. I think they dont have any QC at their factory at all.
I too suspect a lack of QC. None of that stuff should make it out of the factory.
This is very sad. Hopefully they have addressed the issues by now.
I have been scrutinizing many window brands for my project and Jeld-Wen's premium vinyl is one of my top 3 favorite windows at the moment. But this is what I see all over, they have a lot of quality control issues.
It was a lot of drama. Repair people were out twice. They ordered the wrong parts, and the communication between repair teams was abysmal. Eventually Jeld-Wen ordered replacement windows for both the 4x4 bedroom and 1x4 bathroom windows. And they sent two sliders for the stairway windows, which we didn’t even know were defects until the repair guys looked at them. Jeld-Wen also installed the missing weep hole on the 1.5x6 slider.
We’ve been made whole, but it was a long and frustrating process.
I hope Jeld Wen turns things around. I was considering buying a very large multi panel slider
go with Andersen. I just bought a custom door via Home Depot SOO MUCH Better than Jeld Wen garbage with no support. Andersen will back you up with warranty and parts!
I had 2 windows where the weep holes didn't drip any water. Water from the track couldn't leak out and just flooded over the first time it rained. Turns out that they didn't drill the hole to allow the water out.
The track for the window also fits so tight, that when water gets to it, it has to fill up a little before it can go to the ends to drain. I'd have expect it to be able to drain as it gets in. I drilled a small hole on the track to allow the water to fall thru immediately. Also one window you can literally see the rain drip thru the pane - two drops a second. But at least with the hole I drilled on the track, it is able to get to the weep holes quicker.
Bought to 4500 frames (80x72 sliding doors), had to exchange one due to marks, bent track. Once installed, there is a large gap (top or bottom), however the doors and frame are in spec. Fortunately got the doors for $250 each (on sale at lowes, list 800 or 1000 each) would never pay full retail.
What line of Jeld-Wen windows are these?
Same problems. cross checked windows out of square by quarter inch off, also holes in windows. 5 windows a mess
What’s a comparable window to jeld wen? Seems to be what everyone is putting in around me in TX over the past year. I’ve seen a few plygem windows but not much else.
Had the same experience. Squeeze out on all windows and tracked across glass. On sash was broken . Tech was a young kid who was clueless. He delivered the new sash about four months later and was unable to address other issues with the windows. Screen also missing. First shipment was damaged. Second one OK, but months later. These newer windows aren't as well made as older models.
It’s shocking, really. I guess I have high expectations. Poor quality materials cause delays and require time-sucking retrofits, which is really unacceptable. I mean, a bit of QA in the factory would avoid all these on-site issues.

Yeah. I’m glad it’s fixed. But I doubt we’ll buy Jeld-Wen again.
Ours are terrible too. We bought 2 sets of patio doors and 3 Windows. Very disappointed

Absolutely hating my experience with Jeld-Wen. The list of defects and bad customer service to try and get things fixed is too long. Taking MONTHS for resolution. Also, still waiting for screens after seven months. I know, supply chain issues. But it’s almost 2023. Figure it out. I’m so unhappy with them and urge everyone to avoid this company.

Lol and needed to be built with a shim and pulled in. As for the glue that is kind of cheap. That is weird
We tried to pull it in. But half that window is fixed pane, and it doesn’t really move. A little, but not much. And we were worried about cracking the pane or breaking the seal around it.
Jeld-Wen eventually replaced the entire window due to the “out of square” issue.
biggest piece of crap windows. I have two sliding windows the mold is growing in the sealant that hold the glass into the frame of the window and jeld wed told me I'm not clean the window. I can' t clean where the mold is growing and this is happening on the inside and outside of the window.

Repeat do not buy Jeld Wen Windows, we moved in a newly renovated house and it has Jeld Wen Windows, half of them are warped and leaking air on the seals.
The latch does not match the cam locks. They are worthless replacement windows.
