This is actually really sad and shows that Veronica loved him. She loved him but knew that life turned him into a monster and there was nothing she could do about it.
She also says "no one here deserves to die except for me and the monster I created" wich shows that she blames herself for what JD did. Even though you could only blame her for heathers murder, she was manipulated into the others. Apart from the fact that she wasn't responsible for JD being a psychopath

I really like how you portrayed JD's realization of Veronica being alive. Just because a lot of other people kinda just make it seem like it's no big deal, and he kinda just shrugs it off. I think it's cooler to have him have that moment of "Wait, what?" and then the mixed emotion (like you had) tho.

-for a brief moment the dynamic switches and he's the one feeling fear and she's the one causing fear and man does she feel good-but the moment is over and it comes back to how it used to be, she's the vulnerable one who's Feeling those Feelings and you can straight up see how quickly he realises that and resorts to violence
-either you're super good at conveying nuanced feelings with body language or I'm super good at overanalyzing
-but you can SEE it in the mallet alone-when he's giving his speech she's holding it out, in full defense mode, clearly terrified, then she droops briefly like all hope is lost, all while he seems confident and you can clearly see he's long lost his grip on reality. Then, as she starts singing, she goes into offense mode, holding the mallet confidently, waiting not to be attacked, but to attack, while he basically shrinks. Then she drops it, leaving herself defenseless, and he soon takes advantage of that
-her eyes start glowing when his stop, it's like she stops fearing him and takes his power away-great metaphor, you're doing amazing sweetie

The illustration is really cool but I have to say the left vs right in that scene is kinda confusing. When it switched from the mouth to the eyes both on the left side of the screen I didn't realize the eyes were supposed to be Veronica, as opposed to just panning up JD's face
2:08 love how you can see how she starts to get through to him, he takes a step back, no longer on the offensive, this was the part when his reasoning was weakest and if it were possible for her to convince him this would be it, gosh i love the subtle realities in this animatic, its clear the effort was put into it and i love the confrontation part.

Countess Prosper yeah, her new style really reminds me more of Steven Universe, especially the nose and eyes. What is special about her old drawing style was the cuteness, the big eyes, no nose and all. Once you see a picture of that kind of style, you will instantly know it was EFA's work.
Yeah I definitely agree. I really liked her old style and I feel like it conveyed emotions really well, and I’ve also noticed that in this new style all the characters are way flatter and skinnier. I really liked Veronica’s body shape and it seems FA changed it completely-took out every trace of curves. Tragic

Did JD shoot Veronica?! That's a twist! This is amazing, by the way. I love the red in Veronica's eyes, like she's the one who has all the power over him. And her smug expression when she says "I wish your mom had been a little stronger, I wish she'd stayed around a little longer" like she knows saying that will take him off guard/hurt him and she's trying to get him to stop but she's also thrilled at how much of an effect her words can have.
Yeah, I thought that part was fascinating too because in a lot of animatics she looks sadder when she says it... So, I liked that different approach. I was also very shocked when JD ended up shooting her too I was like, "Whaaa?!" So, yeah. 0___o
in the movie, JD gets his finger shot off by Veronica. I can’t remember if he tried to shoot at her first, though.

I have watched this animatic much too much, but here I am and might I just say I love 2:07 !! The clear look of shock and hurt on his face that she would use that fact against him, it shows. I love JD so much, I'm sure if things had gone differently in his life, he could have been great. That just goes to show how anyone can become a monster.
Saw this in my recommended, recognized the name but couldn't remember how, and wow. I'm absolutely amazed by how much your art has changed. I remember the original five or so Heathers animatics you did, and they still are good. But this? This shows growth. It shows that you were able to evolve your style into something better, and I'm happy that you did. This looks absolutely fantastic. Well done.

I like how Veronica’s eyes were red in this. In a lot of other animatics JD’s eyes are red, but I like how you changed that and gave her a more realistically furious look.

You know, the production I saw (maybe it was just the lighting?) showed Veronica grab her own mallet, but I really like your choice to give show her holding HC's mallet instead of her own. I think it makes an interesting contrast to Heather Duke wearing the scrunchie. I may be overanalyzing, but I think it draws a good contrast in how the pair are taking control. Duke, for all her bluster, is focused on the appearance of power, and just wears a hair accessory. Veronica, however, takes something red that's used for action, and her decision to take action here instead of focusing on selfish things is a key aspect of the story.
