I feel she's talking more about how the death took away his wife, but she lost her fricking mom so it's going to hurt more especially at that vulnerable age.

Matthew Devan animatics are animations with less frames and with lower FPS. By your logic animations are just super fast slideshows. The word animate is still included in the word.

There actually were some performances before Broadway where she did meet her mom, but they were cut because the writers felt it removed the emotional journey from Lydia.

One headcanon I read once and has stuck with me since is one where Lydia shares her name with her mom (instead of her being named Emily). They both are "Lydia Deetz", making her both dead and alive in a deeper and more literal sense than presented in the musical. The fact that Lydia never addresses her dead mom by name in the musical, plus the lines "I'm your clone" and "whatever it takes to make him say your name", also take on a whole new meaning from this and I think it's pretty neat
Oh yeaaaahhh. At the end of dead mom she says " _your_ name " but later on in Say My Name she says "gonna make him say _my_ name" so the theory kinda makes sense if they had the same name.

i don' t want to compare animatics, but as someone who has lost a parent and the other parent has reacted in pretty much the same manner as lydia's father, this!! this is exactly how it feels and you portrayed it perfectly. the frustration and anger and grief and hopelessness is all there and you perfectly portray it. thank you for not just making her sad like all the other animatics, bc that's not what this song is abt.
I really love how you draw Lydia. She looks so much like the way I’ve seen people draw Veronica from Heathers. Which is fitting, because the original actress from the movies was Winona Ryder.

I really love the way you portrayed Lydia. This song is both sad & angry, and I think you showed her emotions very well. It’s like,,, she *knows* what she’s saying, rather than just saying stuff she doesn’t mean out of grief. I’m singing this song for a vocal thing, and this animatic is how I want to portray the emotions and stuff,,, (I’m so awkward I dunno what to say,,,) this is like really really good I love it sm 💕💕
It really reminds me of the "5 Stages of Grief", in of denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. It is simply meant as a guide to seeing grief in a new light, rather than an exact estimation of what everyone goes through in grief. Sometimes people skip some stages, the stages are switched and different stages are felt at the same time. Lydia feels both depression and anger here in what she's experiencing. Emotions are complicated, really. Sometimes getting to know your emotions more like in a journal or some other kind of creative expression means you realize sometimes people feel mixed emotions too, even positive emotions along with the negative ones, and that's natural.
I have to say, I absolutely love how you portrayed Lydia's emotions throughout this. It really gives an incredible insight into how she handled her mother's death and how her relationship with her father changed. I personally love this animatic, and I really like your choices with perspective and expressions. Even the gestures were spot on, so thank you so much for this! Happy holidays!!

I really l o v e the emphasis of mockery in 1:08 where she talks about her dad wanting her to smile and act happy. A lot of animatics put her super sad there, and it felt a lot more sarcastic and angry. So thank you for drawing her that way there!!

When she said 'Wake me up when I'm 21' it got me thinking. Did she say that since that's a great age for moving and to get a job? (But then I remembered some 18 year olds do the same) or is it because being 21 is the rightful age to where someone can drink and then she'll drink her problems away from her?
@@thewonderfulvoid4899 It would make sense though, given her current state throughout most of the musical from her point of view, lost, angry, sad, no one she can really rely on, hopes that get destroyed, and this is all happening to a Teenager who can barely process emotions properly, so drinking would be an option, something, anything to numb the pain of their lives. Thank god it gets better near the end, but still.
This song is my favorite, actually. I lost both my parents when I was little, and went into a foster care home with an old lady who was like a second mother to me. Then her son adopted me and she just died. I can't even say "grandma" without crying and it's been years. What makes it really sad is nobody cares, and I made the mistake of telling someone my story. They replied with "well, I think my situation is worse than yours". I reluctantly agreed, and even though it's not a competition, they had only lost their dad due to a divorce. And he still gets to see his father. Lydia is right, you're invisible when you're sad. No one cares, and I see that every day. Not even my closest friends care about me or my feelings. I want somebody to see me, and even though it's selfish, I want some sympathy.
I feel sorry for you. I've lost relatives too but never my parents. It hurts when people say their situation is worse. Why should we compare tragic events? There all sad and they cause a big impact on someone's life.

This animatic is SO good. Your art is fantastic and very cinematic! I really love that you drew a lot of Lydia's expressions as genuinely angry. It seems like most animatics mostly show her sadness, which yeah, she's depressed and mourning the death of her mother, but the other half of her is pissed off at her dad for not acknowledging their loss and simply brushing it off. She wants to talk about it with him but he won't let her. I love that characterisation so much. Amazing job !!

My cousin sang this as an audition piece, and it sadly fit her and her sister's life. Their mom was a drug addict and overdosed due to their father's emotional manipulation and abuse. He basically isolated the mom from everyone. He's a gay lawyer out in LA and he's a total douchebag. He forced my cousins to call his boyfriend "mom" and they would leave the girls alone for hours while they ate, drank, and had sex. The youngest one is in her final year of high school and the older one is living with her grandparents. It just hurts me how much their story is seen through Lydia.
I can personally relate to this song, my mom died a little over a year and a half ago, my dad married a woman who he'd known for... 3 months, if even. This songs hits hard is what I'm trying to say I guess. The animations were really good, sorry for being dark, keep up the good work.

Oof, this hit real hard. Thank you for making it so expressive and flooded with emotion. It's a bad idea to actually cry while singing on stage, but this is the kind of song that still deserves angry tears and I'm very very glad I got to see that
i *LOVE* the emotion on your animatic, it REALLY shows how iritated and frustrated she is right now, it matches the tone of Lydia's voice and how she is angry at her father.
My father just passed away and I’m 17 and the way you display her emotions and expressions is really helpful to feel like I have someone I can relate to thank you!
Losing the only person who seems to get you, it has to be crushing. Her mother had the same gothic interests and Lydia looks back on those haunted house moments and admits nobody realised who her Edgar Allen Poe costume was supposed to be. It wasn’t simply the loss of one (and then essentially two) parents, but of the other person who understood her interests and outlook.

Can I just say that this is the best animatic I’ve ever seen!! The way you portrayed her emotions in her expressions is just spectacular! It really makes it feel like she couldn’t handle her mother’s death and the way she lost the relationship with her father. It makes the video’s atmosphere feel sad and angry, and that’s not something everyone can do! And those perspective changes!! They were absolutely unreal! I can tell you really worked had on this!! AAAAA IM SO READY FOR THIS OMG, the second you put out that post I knew exactly what this was, only a third in and I love it so much! I was re-ligstening to this earlier. Your animatics show so much emotion and I live for it.
When I first heard this song I could genuinely feel what Lydia was feeling because basically the same thing happened to me, only the roles were reversed if that makes sense. I was my grandfather's favorite and my family hated me and my dad for that; so when my grandfather died, people started blocking me out and making me feel like _I_ was the one who died. They couldn't seem to understand that I was hurting too. They just thought that I didn't care... it's still like this to thid day. My family has practically disowned me for being my grandfather's favorite and it's pathetic really... yet still it hurts.

One headcanon I read once and has stuck with me since is one where Lydia shares her name with her mom (instead of her being named Emily). They both are "Lydia Deetz", making her both dead and alive in a deeper and more literal sense than presented in the musical. The fact that Lydia never addresses her dead mom by name in the musical, plus the lines "I'm your clone" and "whatever it takes to make him say your name", also take on a whole new meaning from this and I think it's pretty neat
Oh yeaaaahhh. At the end of dead mom she says " _your_ name " but later on in Say My Name she says "gonna make him say _my_ name" so the theory kinda makes sense if they had the same name.

i don' t want to compare animatics, but as someone who has lost a parent and the other parent has reacted in pretty much the same manner as lydia's father, this!! this is exactly how it feels and you portrayed it perfectly. the frustration and anger and grief and hopelessness is all there and you perfectly portray it. thank you for not just making her sad like all the other animatics, bc that's not what this song is abt.

I really love the way you portrayed Lydia. This song is both sad & angry, and I think you showed her emotions very well. It’s like,,, she *knows* what she’s saying, rather than just saying stuff she doesn’t mean out of grief. I’m singing this song for a vocal thing, and this animatic is how I want to portray the emotions and stuff,,, (I’m so awkward I dunno what to say,,,) this is like really really good I love it sm 💕💕
It really reminds me of the "5 Stages of Grief", in of denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. It is simply meant as a guide to seeing grief in a new light, rather than an exact estimation of what everyone goes through in grief. Sometimes people skip some stages, the stages are switched and different stages are felt at the same time. Lydia feels both depression and anger here in what she's experiencing. Emotions are complicated, really. Sometimes getting to know your emotions more like in a journal or some other kind of creative expression means you realize sometimes people feel mixed emotions too, even positive emotions along with the negative ones, and that's natural.

I really l o v e the emphasis of mockery in 1:08 where she talks about her dad wanting her to smile and act happy. A lot of animatics put her super sad there, and it felt a lot more sarcastic and angry. So thank you for drawing her that way there!!

This song is my favorite, actually. I lost both my parents when I was little, and went into a foster care home with an old lady who was like a second mother to me. Then her son adopted me and she just died. I can't even say "grandma" without crying and it's been years. What makes it really sad is nobody cares, and I made the mistake of telling someone my story. They replied with "well, I think my situation is worse than yours". I reluctantly agreed, and even though it's not a competition, they had only lost their dad due to a divorce. And he still gets to see his father. Lydia is right, you're invisible when you're sad. No one cares, and I see that every day. Not even my closest friends care about me or my feelings. I want somebody to see me, and even though it's selfish, I want some sympathy.
I feel sorry for you. I've lost relatives too but never my parents. It hurts when people say their situation is worse. Why should we compare tragic events? There all sad and they cause a big impact on someone's life.

I really love that you drew a lot of Lydia's expressions as genuinely angry. It seems like most animatics mostly show her sadness, which yeah, she's depressed and mourning the death of her mother, but the other half of her is pissed off at her dad for not acknowledging their loss and simply brushing it off. She wants to talk about it with him but he won't let her. I love that characterisation so much. Amazing job !!

My cousin sang this as an audition piece, and it sadly fit her and her sister's life. Their mom was a drug addict and overdosed due to their father's emotional manipulation and abuse. He basically isolated the mom from everyone. He's a gay lawyer out in LA and he's a total douchebag. He forced my cousins to call his boyfriend "mom" and they would leave the girls alone for hours while they ate, drank, and had sex. The youngest one is in her final year of high school and the older one is living with her grandparents. It just hurts me how much their story is seen through Lydia.
Oh my god thats terrible that they had to go through that. I feel really bad that they had to grow up like that.

Her mother had the same gothic interests and Lydia looks back on those haunted house moments and admits nobody realised who her Edgar Allen Poe costume was supposed to be. Can I just say that this is the best animatic I’ve ever seen!! The way you portrayed her emotions in her expressions is just spectacular! It really makes it feel like she couldn’t handle her mother’s death and the way she lost the relationship with her father. AAAAA IM SO READY FOR THIS OMG, the second you put out that post I knew exactly what this was, only a third in and I love it so much! I was re-ligstening to this earlier. Your animatics show so much emotion and I live for it.
When I first heard this song I could genuinely feel what Lydia was feeling because basically the same thing happened to me, only the roles were reversed if that makes sense.
I was my grandfather's favorite and my family hated me and my dad for that; so when my grandfather died, people started blocking me out and making me feel like _I_ was the one who died. They couldn't seem to understand that I was hurting too. They just thought that I didn't care... it's still like this to thid day. My family has practically disowned me for being my grandfather's favorite and it's pathetic really... yet still it hurts.
