    good video. But nontheless I wonder what to do If had a video of that basketball player jumping ? what are the possible reasons to slow it down properly when using optical flow and not not cause any glitches and aftifacts. What if I had a video of 30 fps or 60 fps with that basketball player. How should I slow it down with optical flow in this case?

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, with optical flow premiere is trying to create frames that did not actually exist in order to make the footage go more slowly. When you have a quick action like a player jumping where there’s a larger discrepancy in the image from one frame to the next, premiere will have a more difficult time creating new frames in between and this will result in artifacting.
      If you have a clip that is in 30 fps or 60 fps slow it down accordingly relative to the frame rate of your sequence. For a 120fps clip we slow down to 20% because 24/120=0.2, so for a 60fps clip 24/60=0.4 so slow it down to 40%, and apply the same principle to 30fps clips or footage with any other frame rate.
      Hope this helps.

    If the video is already filmed in a 60 fps or close enough frame rate and good lighting it does wonders, it can slow down to ridiculous extents through extrapolation, however if the video quality is poor or has 24 fps it generates too many artifacts, though if used in a smart manner it can restore a many old videos to modern standards, although the representation is only an approximation and not reality, like looking at an illusion. This technology is digital illusionism.

    Hey Peter, how did you create the colour grade for the vid? Your vids are 🔥 keep up the exceptional work!

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Dammy, the footage I work with is often log footage so I start by creating one lumetri colour layer that just has contrast and saturation to add some life to the image. I’ll then usually add a LUT that I’ve made or from someone else that I like for that footage as a base on a second lumetri colour layer, then I use a third one to make tweaks to the colour and get the image to my liking before saving the preset. Of course instead of adding contrast and saturation in the first step you can also use log conversion LUTs that are usually provided by camera manufacturers or third parties for free.

    Hi, I’m trying to follow your video, I have the most updated version. What did you click to after you found the spot you wanted to slow down. It’s looks like you pulled something down but I’m not sure how to get to that step. Sorry if this question is confusing lol

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Bri, I held CTRL and right clicked after navigating to the menu that comes up from left clicking and selecting “show clip keyframes -> time remaining -> speed”. When I right clicked after doing that it gave me a break in my clip that slows me to pull down or up on either side to make that part of the clip slower or faster respectively. By pulling that one part down I reduced its speed so that it would be slow motion. I hope this helps.
