Larry & Orange County Speedway changed my childhood in the 70's - everywhere we went - there was Larry's voice - before even getting in the gate you knew it was him..... "like a snake oil salesman in the night !!!" @ Supercross, Speedway, drags, Riverside Raceway, the boat races in Long Beach, Larry was probably at the Saddleback hillclimbs too but those are faint memories. He was there then "off like a prom dress on a friday night" - Larry was everywhere it seemed and now with things a distant memory it seems even more so. Both Larry and Gene Gene the Dancing Machine were not role models but they were racing entertainment at their best back in the day.... along with the outlaw biker fights, trophy girls, bikes going over the wall, grudge matches and some guy riding wheelies up and down the street behind the turn 2 & 3 grandstand. It was a great time to have Larry as the narrator of our life - I still hear his screaming as Bruce Penhall was about to win after a start from the back penalty line(!)..... no wonder after growing up the way I did that voice in my head telling me "when in doubt gas it" was always Larry Huffman. The Bast brothers, Bad Brad Oxley, and so many others is what made Speedway in California so great we eventually sent one of our own to beat the brits! That California of my youth was worth being there for every moment and Larry was a HUGE part of it - THANKS A MILLION LARRY!!!
