Same here bud.
Me 3
Me 4 lol. I was 16 in 86 and remember watching MotoWorld for all the highlights with Dave Despain. Keep the wheels on the ground and your feet on the pegs lol
John Rambo

I WAS @ THIS RACE & LOST MY VOICE, DAVID & RICKY HAD EVERY ONE IN AWW..
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!
35 years later, and we're still talking about '86 Anaheim. Unreal battle. Just wish I could watch these old races with the same video quality we enjoy today.
When i finnish building my time machine im heading to Anaheim 86
In india I spent all my youth seeing pics of greatest motocross stars in motocross action magazine. Now seeing them in action when I hav grown old. All thanks to TH-cam.
I was 12 years old at that race. I will never forget it. One of my all time favorites.
I was there! I still have my tickets! Took the CDS bus with my new wife and a bunch of friends. Thanks for posting this.
I was there 14 yrs old ! Was epic . David Bailey was amazing to watch . The whole stadium was on its feet . Amazing event. Love motocross . Not the same today as those 80s races . Really messy
aaah the days when fours trokes werent around :D
I was at this Race & It was an epic battle.
WFO from start to finish, Larry Huffman went berserk! Best I ever seen.
INCIDENTLY, the 2ND best race I ever seen was the '81 125/250 Nationals
when Hannah & Howerton brawled it out at Saddleback Park. God I miss racing at that Track. Saddleback Saturdays ruled!
I was at a 250 national in anderson south carolina when david Baily made his first public aperance at a race after his bad accident . He was strapped onto a four wheeler with a back rest welded on it. He was riding around. Kinda broke my heart.
Bailey vs Johnson was the old school rivalry everyone was talking about. When I was 8 years old my dad would put on the race for me. I was always rooting for the #5 motocross bike. It was one of the most epic supercross race ever.
I love the old school tracks. They actually look fun to ride. They made for good racing too.
I was there with all my buddies with our monster mullets and parachute pants . God I miss the 80’s - dam they were a blast !! After this show you had The Mickey Thompson off-road race at the Colosseum then most mister truck . My flask was alway full
Hell I wish we were still on the 80s in my opinion life was a lot better back then
FooBar Maximus it’s you fucking whining libs that screwed everything up. Go back to your safe space . Fucking idiot.
@@jimbeam4111 hahaha
@@jimbeam4111 YOU'RE the only idiot.
Richie that’s your opinion. Who cares what libs think?
@dougie LV + Reagan killed the white dream in the 80s. I laugh at you clowns. He distracted you and took your jobs! LOL HAHAHAH .....Clowns...
Dam, I sure miss these days. Rick Johnson has always been my favorite. I'll never forget these years, they were the best years of my life and the last good years thus far......
Amazing! It was in the magazines we got imported to the UK and it changed everything, the way the tracks were built out doors, the bike choices we made and gave me one arm shorter than the other after many metal plates.
i remember these Lads and im Welsh not American, but RJ & David Bailey will stay in my head till i fkn die!!...Ace vid!
I spent many years watching all the races I could one of the smells I will never forget 2 stroke oil and gas mixture I loved it 😊
I was lucky to be there that night and everything they say about this race is true it was a once in a lifetime battle to witness in person. I want to say there were laps they passed each other 3 to 4 times it was crazy
My senior year of high school and the whole year was amazing for Supercross - DeCoster was my idol and it all came together that night. Not since Bruce Penhall in Speedway had I been so excited for every race in Orange, LA County and Carlsbad.
During all those years only a few "mad" kids were able to watch supercross with satellite tv. I was one of them and I was 14 in '86.
I think most people miss those years, probable the most exciting and true years of supercosss.
End of '80s and first '90 have been the very best years os motosports not only off but on road.
Lets feel happy for having lived those years "live".
BR
I was able to start being a SX fan thanks to my local honda suzuki dealer loaning me their video collection one by one starting with 85 or 86 i remember thinking watching this race man i hope they are all this competetive an good. ..it was sick how many times they changed the lead
Great clip. I remember that, and was heavy into riding at the time. What an epic battle.
Definetly one of, if not the best race battles of all time. Up there with some of Magoo's amazing runs. Among others. Wardy was always a blast to watch as well. Sure miss the days of the big 2 stroke battles.
I was there. Amazing show, still remember the intensity and the crowd.
Wow, that WAS a great race. Bailey and Johnson are awesome. Pretty good commentators too.
2019 fellas where we at
I was 11 , My first Honda was a 1986 cr125 and those guys were my heroes
I had Ricky Johnson Jeff ward bob hanna posters all over my bedroom lol
Remember the Aquanet hair bands ? I remember buying this Europe album and drinking beer at pit parties at night in high school.
I remember getting so physced to see Jumping Johnny O back in the mid-80's day when he came to Washougal. It was f**king RAD!
David Bailey is a champion in motocross racing. Bought his dads book How to race motocross in the 70's. Raced at lake sugar tree in Axton VA. The best Riders in the world where at the trans AMA 500cc National at lake sugar tree late 70's Great racing De Coster .many more. What a great track to see the best mx riders in the world......
This race and many others is what made supercross, supercross.
This and Pontiac.
I remember watching this race! Was on the edge of my seat 👍
Man, the islands, and 1986! Bad people, kidnapped-- my PK!
Ricky Johnson is 1 of only 2 racers in the history of the sport to simultaneously win two pro-level AMA Championships for two different sized bikes in simultaneously in the same season...) he did it in 1988 & then Jean-Michel Bayle did it in 1991... but I believe the season this race took place during (1986), David Bailey was the 500 class champion of this season & the next racer to win that class championship was RJ... he won the 500 class back-to-back 1987 & 1988 & in 1988 he won the 250 title simultaneously...
I was lucky enough to be at that race. I was racing a 125, amateur, but later that year I bought a 87 cr 250 because that's what David and Ricky were riding!
Now those are true motorcross riders! Motorcross riders today have no clue what these boy went though!! They wore kindy belts to hold there guts in place!! RJ love ya!!
Absolutely fantastic race the golden age of super cross miss those days … absolute legends
ricky johnson is a class act
I WAS AT THIS RACE W SOME FRIENDS CLASSIC RJ. RICKY JOHNSON WAS MY IDOL
What a race! I still remember it. I was a rider then, DB and RJ awesome riders. I am not able to say if it is the best race of all times, however, those two guys plus Johnny O, Ron Lechien, Jeff Ward, Broc Glover... just gave Supercross a quantic jump.
Great video, congrats!
Rodrigo Salas Olivares agreed. Loved these days. Johnson, Ward, Bailey awesome.
No doubt one of the greatest races ever!
これ以上のバトルは 未だに無い!
Carmichael and Stewart seemed to do it just about every race in the 2006 outdoor season.
Definitely the greatest supercross race ever, plus the one from La Collosium at the end of the same season. Ricky Johnson vs Guy Cooper
RJ got tboned in turn 1 by ward and lechien and was dead last . He was flying
What’s the name of the vhs of all of those great races? When Guy Cooper and Johnson went at it.
@@lucyloo2228 the Cooper Johnson epic was LA Colessium event. The last of the 86 season. Truly an epic. I was an RJ fan, but Cooperman was awesome
I used to watch a vhs tape of all those races, does anyone know the name of it. It had the David Bailey “can’t touch him with a 20 foot pole” race and it had the race where Johnson crashed and came back to win.
That track looks unpredictable
Aneheim supercross is awesome. It's like a religion down there.
Yeah, those were the days... I remember I went to Anaheim in 87 and nearly cried when I heard Bailey was paralyzed. THEN on top of that, Johnson missed a jump and was knocked out cold. He was OK, but in light of Baileys injury, it was pretty scary...
I was there 👍
I was there 😍
He said 22 years later I was like damn this video must've been uploaded almost a decade ago
Those supercross tracks then were so gnarly
A lot of people don't remember how blurry the '80s were. It's not camera quality it was actually that blurry.
lets make a copy of the race track and have them race that today
The racers of today would not like that track. It's to rough
Today’s tracks are basically flat track sections, perfectly measured whoops and allot of ridiculous jumps. As talented as today’s riders are, I don’t think they could handle riding those tracks. Time to bring them back and make supercross more interesting.
Supercross at the time was like watching motocross in slow motion. Couldn’t embrace it then still can’t embrace it 35 years on.
Love that race!
Supercross changed so much
The tracks were way more technical back then, and I'm pretty sure Guy Cooper designed a track a few years back in the old school style, all the guys struggled,rv,js included.
Carl Stanton I'm proud to say I grew up watching guy Cooper race with Reynard and gnarley Marley god they were fun to watch coop was a beast!!!! and my favorite track used to be what they called the sugar bowl if you watch the movie steel roots mcgrath did the triple and rode a huge wheelie afterwards brahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
I totally agree. Need to get rid of all the ridiculous jumps and bring those tracks back. Then let’s see just how good today’s riders are. When I raced in the 80’s my arms never stopped moving and our body English was all over the bike. Much harder workout and stamina than today with these 4-stroke flight machines. Today’s tracks are basically flat track sections, whoops and perfectly measured jumps. Watched a video recently where they added a sand section where all the leaders were going down. I grew up racing sand and rarely went down.
That has answered my Question of my life ..! I just LOVED CARLSBAD. RACEWAY .I studied the wide world of sports coverage .RACED ONCE got fourth in 500 open class .IF only i studied the LITTLE PROFESSOR🤔💪I COULD HAVE BEEN A CONTENDA🇺🇸☝💯🏁🏆🏁
Had on video, watched it again and again, who would think we're still talking about it
This was a he'll of a good race. There was one that was just as good between Ward, Cooper, Johnson, and others that is tough to beat as well.
This vid would've been better with the sound of the bikes because hearing those things are like music anyway
Respect!
Class act. Today’s riders never race this clean and respectful whip is probably why this was such a good race. Back in the day I was head to head with a dirty rider who made the race dangerous for me and other riders. When the race was over I went to the tower and before I could get a word out they said don’t worry, he was disqualified. Where is that today???
awsome battles :O
GREAT!!!!!!
I was there. Bailey was my favorite rider.
AWSOME !
I remember it very well.
They handed out American flags
agree- technical smoothness against brute force and determination
Crazy race.
I remember this. I rooted for Bailey. I was in my teens and had a cr.
I liked that 1996 suppercross with Jeremy Mcgrath in Houston when Emig and Hughs past mcgrath and were going to break his win streak then they took each other out.
My hair stands up on the back of my neck just thinking about that race,,, TooHip v The Bandit... The Best Of The Best!!
I still have the Moto-Video VHS tape
the magic supercross..it's fantastic
I was there. I remember watching this. I wanted rick johnson to win. Still a good race
TY
thats awesome
38 years ago now I think !
Hard to believe I announced that race 30 years ago!!!
1djgreg wow really? That's crazy!
yah right
Straight bullshit my father actually was working in the twin towers when that happened. Your so wrong
I remember that race, I was Bob Hannahs fluffer behind the scenes. I also rebuilt Broc Glovers top end before that race. 😁
I was the janitor there. Didn't get to see anything but dirty toilets.
Damn! The 30 second board girls got a lot better looking over the years!
I was offered free tickets to this race, but could not go. ☹️
I wish I was alive to see that race
gotta love the old snappy 2 strokes haha
Maravilha
Che battaglia!
Dear Rick Johnson Please revive Too Hip Bad Boy sports wear.
Flat top an all!!!!
I was there
Yes this. Race was right in the middle of the collection of sx tapes the local Honda/Suzuki shop was letting me borrow one at a time and when I think all those races,in my head the picture I remember most is that#6 bike of Bailey ,team mate Ricky just going so hard at it,neither wavered, you could see the frustration,Ricks Helmut movements he's like give up already and Bailey was just so focused he was I like go away at last, and the rest was just well...let go to the video tape Johnny,Rollin..
Des demis-dieux
Great Race ! competitors compete, lesser men cheat, the man who takes you out couldn't beat you no dout.
This is still a RACE TO REMEMBER fair play great day in our hearts for being Professional and giving it your All.🏁💯🏁👏👏👏🕵✔🎬🏆💘
RJ is my guy🏁David Bailey could really FLY
Its the drive from within that keeps HOPE alive that I CAN WIN🏁💘🏁🏆👏👏👏🏋💯🏋✔🎬🕵
We understand
Bailey and Johnson truly a epic battle. Old school track no rythym sections here
supercross and motocross racing is the most physically demanding sport on the face of the earth period!
Atlanta '90 was the best race ever.
That was fuckin AMAZING
@CjBiker88 Holy cow! Those were 250s???? I ride a 1986 CR250!! That's amazing! And I thought it was some old cheap dirt bike!
The '86 CR250 is Known to be one of the Most Powerful CR250's Ever Made! The Later Models were made with Smoother less Peaky Power Band - I Owned an '88 CR250r & '95 CR250r but the '88 had more Grunt Imho - Cheers👍😉
i remember this
Kawa has done " The Force."
the riders and bike look like bricks out there jumping compared to todays riders and bike
How bout Ricky attitude,I'm just gonna go out and rattle him, yeah how that work out for ya,Bailey though a long with the smoothest rider title, fastest how bout strongest mentally, all that pressure and all the changes he made to his riding during that race,he just cold stone unflappable, took all that heat from ricky, and rode his own race and got right back to his game plan and won it,now that I older then I didnt know what was going on the Honda team, really makes meet appreciate the show these guy put on,an more so Bailey's riding so solid.thanks for the memories...I gotta go I'm getting misty.hah...
