Megadeth Looking Down The Cross Live 1988 Chance, Poughkeepsie, NY Underrated Megadeth song...fantastic stuff with the So Far, So Good...So What! line-up.
Mustaine is a fucking genius. He wrote some of the best metal songs (riffs, solos and lyrics) ever. I find Jeff Young suited Megadeth very well at the time. His playing style, stage presence and mannerisms had 'Deth written all over 'em. But nothing says MEGADETH more than Dave Mustaine. He literally IS the band.
Brahm Tancredi he was never meant to be in MegadetH, he was the guitar teacher of a bullshiter that conned Dave into beliving he could shread but couldn't. when it came for him to lay his tracks down and solos he said "yeah man I got to learn more from my teacher Jeff Young" he lied at a time when Dave had studio time booked for the 3rd album just before the tour too.thats why Jeff was basically dragged into megadeth because this guy flat out lied about his abilities and Dave believe him. It's all in his autobiography guys.i bet he was furious
Ellefson is also so core to Megadeth its incredible. Dave has the spark and out-of-this-world-ness with his riffs, plus the darkness, but Ellefson incredibly consistently provides these strong and powerful bass riffs.
This whole song is played in lead guitar! That's why is so hard to play! Most of these songs are played in lead guitar! Plus he sings with it too! Genius writing guitar parts and lyrics!
Megadeth fan for over 30 years....LOVE this song, to bad Dave won't play this song and a few other favorites of mine with blistering riffs anymore live for reasons I can respect...but still!
in my opinion this was the most "different" song on this album... i think it would fit nicer on "so far, so good"... KIMB songs are too fast and aggressive and this song is way more well worked than the others... this was a proof of what would come in next albums would surprise anyone speaking about megadeth's musicality
Dave really doesn't have a clue at how much he inspired almost every genre of extreme metal other than super slow doom or sludge metal. Just these evil anti-religion material he had and he was into the occult. Inspiration thru and thru.
Who cares about popularity? And why should he keep his opinion for himself? If you don't like his opinion just ignore it. He doesn't need to shut up, he can say whatever he wants and he does, that's what makes him great.
@turns2gold technically it is,it's the most technical intense albume there is but due to low production qualtiy i get why it isn't praised as much but on killing dave shows that he's the best guitarist in megadeth none of the higher classed guitarist can come up with daves ideas there.
i think out of that list, poison was the cure would definitely be the hardest song to play live...i cant imagine anyone singing that song and playing it at the same time live hahaha...though it would be cool if he attempted it
+Darrin Connor Dave refuses to play anything that has occult themes, even this anti-occult the name "Looking Down the Cross" itself it's "satanic" from him. I have always thought that "Satanic" Thrash Metal was not glorifying Satan at all, because it's always end with the main character dead or in hell haha.
+TheAceSpaceman it's neither. He wrote the song as his interpretation of what he thought it must've been like being Jesus during the crucifixion. Or what he thought Jesus saw and experienced. Davs own words.
@itsdimetime69 I agree, it is much underrated, but the music itself is very inspired. Riffs are cool, solos are awesome (well balanced between Mustaine and Poland), drumming is also primetime!
Whadaya mean..recorded professionally in 1984..if your making reference to this video..no way,..Cuz it was 1988..The lineup itself tells that fact..and the only way it could have been recorded in 1984 would have been on one of the demoshow for KIMB..The only way..but anyway an incredible composition..and there are many one of my all time Mega faves by Megadeth!!!..Dave should certainly be proud of his songwriting itself..The Music, Lyrics, arrangements..his solo's...Megadeth talent for Sure!!!
@flaphead325 they have played five magics live-sort of. there is a video of them doing a soundcheck and they play the whole five magics song, excluding singing. just type in "five magics soundcheck"
I guess during the clip of No more mister nice guy, all those 3 were destroyed by drugs. He couldn't play and sing in the same time, so it's filmed in a weird way.
its really hard to say which megadeth album is the best b/c they all sound different...well then again maybe sum do sound alike but thats how megadeth roll.lol
Good job working the google machine....Dude, all I know is that when Rust IN peace came out Dave talked about being a christian in magazine interviews. Him and Marty would pray before concerts. On the Rusted Pieces video he's wearing a gold cross. So good job with the research, wikipedia isn't the last word on all matters, but like I said, believe what you want, I DON"T CARE!!!!!!!!
@shinshoryuken He actually has played a small part of Into The Lungs of Hell live as early as 1984. Just saw a video of it in TH-cam. Name of the vid was something like Dave Mustaine Guitar Solo 1984. It's back when Kerry King was playing a few gigs with Megadeth.
@itsdimetime69 for some reason theres something about that shity quality sound thats so fucking awesome, it just makes it more rough, you know what i mean, it just gives it more of a vintage sound to it
@flaphead325 haha yeah i understand, but it's the closest to a live performance that has been played. i know they are playing this year for the endgame tour, but i'm just wondering when in the tour they are going to start playing it, or if they already have
dave had like.. 3 brains..
1- Destroyed by drugs
2- He plays guitar (godlike)
3- He sings
And writes songs.
gijonny78 Produced and Now Co Produces his Albums
How managed to play some those songs and sing at the same time! It's amazing, def his best quality as a musician
@@grahamkelly8299 while being completely wasted, sometimes.
@@ZGtx those shows probably weren't the best lol there does come a point when your to fucked to function lol
This song is one of the best of Megadeth's repertory
Alvin Cosmik Waste 666 Extremely underrated too.
It's the fuckin best. Hands down.
Still one of the best songs of all time.
Not a lot of people really seem to know about this song, but us that do know, we know it's one of their greatest songs ever written/recorded
For sure, this song is funky, thrashy and pretty dramatic as well. Great song overall
Damn, I want to have a time machine...
Im a time traveler and time travel is simple, first step grab a fork, second step stick it in an electrical outlet
@@etdawgblast6890 considering his response it might work. I'll go test it now
No need. Their shows are still fucking epic!
@@billd3891 Yeah, but they don't play this song live anymore :^)
@@insanemtl5890 oh shit. Didn't know that. That sucks :/
This is the era when Daves vocals killed it

obb322 I agree Dave is the main attraction, but Jr holds the band down.
@@ericseliz34 not anymore... really interested to see who they get as a new bassist. Better be someone who can keep UP.
Dave + Jackson = Awesome
Definitely! He should of stayed with them like marty, ellefson. They make really cool guitar now to.
One one of the greatest thrash songs. Wow.
how the fuck is he able to play hard ass riffs and sing at the same time??? dave is my idol
these are honestly daves best solos
everything from rust in peace and earlier has crazy riffs if you ask me, but the ones on KIMB are so unique and different
3:53 ~ ending
That part really gives me the chills everytime I hear it. So simple, but so fucking awesome!
This shit is insane, this right here is why i fucking love Megadeth!
Yeah, the first 2 had raw power, awesome and creative riffs and a dark ambient. My fav. albums are KIMB and PSBWB
Same!
After all of these years, I still feel the same way.
I feel for Jr. This is #2 on my fav songs from them. #1 is Black Friday.
same two favourites of mine, 3. is five Magics for me... they are the darkest and strangest of all megadeth songs
Black Friday #1, hands down
I'm sure Family Tree hits harder in Alabama
Vic Rattlehead lmfao, funniest thing I’ve seen all week
Good mourning Black Friday is the best song off peace sells!
This right here is why Megadeth is my favorite metal band...so young . So talented. MEGADETH = GODS OF SPEED METAL.
This whole song is played in lead guitar! That's why is so hard to play! Most of these songs are played in lead guitar! Plus he sings with it too! Genius writing guitar parts and lyrics!
he's drunk, he is devastated, he is Dave!!!
Aaaahh this is so damn raw and powerful, Dave is pure genius, metal soul
4:00 such underrated solo!
i never understood why killing is never prasied like peace sells is . cause really i think killing is the best megadeth album .
2 people are looking up the cross
Dave Mustaine is BADASS! Playing and singing like this is pure talent, I really wonder how he can still do that drugged!
Blakestone when you build a tolerance for drugs youll be amazed what you can do on guitar.... jus sayin from first hand experience
Because the drugs gave him the feeling of the song, made him played inspired.
This song and Chosen Ones are my two favorite songs from this album. I personally LOVE this album but I can understand why some people hate it.
i dont understand how haha
Yeah, why? It's an awesome album.
@@goldenfreddy-gj5wy i meant that i didnt understand why some people hate it. its actually my 2nd favorite album next to peace sells in 1st

I wish they would play this now
My fuckin favourite Megadeth song
back in the day megadeth no one could compete with the 'deth crew
I'd have thought he's play this one more since he got saved.
one of best Daves solo here.
My second favorite Dave solo.
great song thanks for posting this n in good quality too
There will be another metallica but there will never be another megadeth.
awesome song, I can't believe it took a decade for me to discover this hidden gem.
Thankyou! Nice to see & hear live! \M/
Great one.
very nice song I love this one
Fucking badass!!!
After 1:24.... ALL Hell rises, and fire comes from beneath, and Dave turns into Satan.
I wish they still played these songs live

this song slaps
They don't play it because they have such a huge catalog of music and they have to play all the popular songs plus the songs on the new album.
Este tema es una obra maestra, ojala la toquen en 🇨🇱 chile algun dia

Playing this live for Megadeth in 2018 would be a tall order. Not an easy song musically or vocally.
Plus that T shirt he is wearing is called nuclear.can't get that anymore!! :S
he is learning ( re-learning) five magics for the new tour so I think it is possible too
Believe what you want, I don't care.
Poland does ownzor! But, I believe this video features the fretboard gymnastics of Jeff Young.
Fucking Awesome :D
