An F-15 flying over Cap's home while he's delivering a tutorial on the F-15 is a sign from the DCS Gods. The Big W is pleased.
I wished I lived that close to an airbase. The closest to me is Gowen Field, with the 124th, and their A-10s. The next closest is Mountain Home, and the 366th FW and their F-15Es. They transitioned from F-111s to a composite wing with F-16s, F-15Cs, F-15Es, and B-1Bs, then settled into F-15Es.
@@timbaskett6299 I grew up close to Grissom AFB in Peru Indiana. It was a SAC base with two tanker squadrons based there and a stopping point for B52s. Used to ride my bike to the fenceline and watch them takeoff and land all day. It is what got me into military aviation and aviation in general.
You guys do realize that the F-15Es will be from RAF Lakenheath (LN) NOT from U.S mainland bases, just to clarify

Love the tutorials, and sensor explanations. They give me ideas for "future systems" in the real world. One that this makes me think of is an "orbital and atmospheric target triangulation system" (OATTS) using an in theater radar satellite, AWACS, and the onboard radar to get an accurate track on a target, in three dimensions. These also gives DCS players a "taste" of what it takes to train pilots and WSO/RIO crews in the real world.
Loved the video @Grim Reapers! Can't wait for the next video man! The F-15E's Radar is pretty thorough and since it's a Strike Eagle, it can also perform Air strikes on Targets like Airfields or Supply Convoys.
Also, As for the AI Forces in Stormworks: Build and Rescue "Search and Destroy DLC" (Aka The Weapons DLC), the Eurofighter Typhoons, Eurocopter Tiger's, Huey "Venom's" in the Air Force and the "Destroyers" and "Fast Attack Craft" in the AI Navy will keep Respawning at Various Intervals even while you're fighting them. And as mentioned before, the Air Force Equipment flies Slower than they actually would in Real life because of the Limits to the Game's AI, making it possible to Shoot Down a Eurofighter Typhoon with even a Hawker Hurricane Mk. IIB.
I will try to get the Sizes of the Islands of Donkk and the Eastward Chain out Towards Terminal Camodo for you to try out "Operation Shoestring II" in DCS with the World War Two Assets Pack and Appropriate World War Two Warship/Transport Ship Mods. I'm still working out the Vehicles Being Transported to the Initial Landings on LST-325 but it's Generally one Combat Engineer Platoon at Full Strength (HQ Section with the 3 man Command Team, a 2 man Bazooka Team, a Jeep Willy's MB and a Pioneer Supply CCKW-353 2½-ton "Deuce and a Half" Truck, 2 Engineering Sections each with 2 4 man Pinoeer Rifle Teams, a 2 man Bazooka Team and a CCKW-353 2½-ton "Deuce and a Half" Truck, a Support Section with 2 3 man M1917 water-cooled .50 Caliber Machine Gun Teams, a 2 man Bazooka Team and a CCKW-353 2½-ton "Deuce and a Half" Truck and finally a Tractor Section with an M4 Sherman Dozer) as well as a Full Strength Tank Destroyer Platoon with 4 M-10 3" GMC (Gun Motor Carriage) Tank Destroyers and the Security Section of 1 Jeep Willy's MB and 2 M20 Utility Cars and a Tank Company of 14 M4A3(Late) Sherman Medium Tanks (2 Tanks in the Company HQ and 3 Platoons of 4 Tanks each). The Engineers are for Quickly Repairing any Damage to the Facilities at Dreimor Airstrip and Terminal Spycakes incured during the Preliminary Bombardment from the USS Iowa and USS Cleveland while the Tank Destroyers Support the Sherman's in Countering AI Armor and the Infantry in the Assault with their supply of Armor Piercing and High Explosive Rounds. The Sherman's will also be Supporting the Infantry if the M-10's are otherwise Engaged.
I have been toying with the idea of Having an Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battery of 4 M1 40 millimeter L/60 Bofors Anti-Aircraft Guns, each Towed by a CCKW-353 2½-ton "Deuce and a Half" Truck, and an HQ Section with a 3 man Command Team and a Jeep Willy's MB for Anti-Aircraft Defense but that might need to come with the Reinforcements for the Operation.

BTW.... I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath in the mid 80's. Cool that you said you lived near there. .... What a daunting task. I just started learning the F-15E radar. Cap you did a great job with this. To get soooooo much info into an understandable way would be tough. I think you nailed it. I'm not sure it could be taught any better unless you were one on one with someone.
This looks like the greatest radar we'll have in DCS. How very exciting! I hope somehow somebody makes an EX mod with this bad boy. That way we can do the whole 16 aamram thingy :)

23:30 This part may be a mistake because this was 2 months ago but for going in TWSH mode, you have to do the miniraster with TDC depress and then the Acquisition button aft short.

I think the Strike Eagle radar is actually pretty easy to understand, it’s like the FC3 Eagles older brother. In real life it’s probably very similar to this in both planes.

Is there a EXP or RAID modes like in the F16 or F18 to separe targets from close formations?
what do you do when you depress the tds and the bottom sweep goes to a narrow fast scan of about 5 degrees. i cant go back to the wide scan

23:39 I’m struggling to get it into tws and it’s getting frustrating pressing auto press on the blank to do small area search then then aft and I’m getting vertical scan instead. Somehow I’ve managed to get tws on the screen once. Any ideas what am I doing wrong ?
You need to press TDC Depress and then AAS Aft.

i tried that today. coolie right didnt do anything, so i tried coolie left. what happened then was that my radar elevation numbers vanished and i could not see any radar contacts at all. i could not make it work anymore.

You're right, and I've heard a lot of chatter about how it keeps moving more from the red (always with GS lol). I mean, I understand - that's what's been obvious in the news lately. But where DCS can swing the needle towards the middle is by adding more and better 3rd gen red and high fidelity red models. I can't wait to continually crash the F-15! I'm garbage at DCS

@@grimreapers Not really, no. The 'standard' crew contract for most F-15E drivers is that the pilot owns the A-A radar functions, and the WSO owns the A-G radar functions. So generally speaking, all the functions you've described would be performed by the front seater.
All it really needs is Sniper Pod, JHMCS, and DataLink

You should transfer from steam to the standalone, there are more sales and discounts, in fact the next sale will be next month (probably why the F15E was pushed to July)
@Ian Pederson I would but Steam has so many more benefits too m than just DCS, from managing my entire game library to keeping games updated automatically and restoring stuff when/if I have to. Plus with Steam I also have the ability to pay usins redeems cards, instead of using my debt/credit card online all of the time.
But if this starts to become the norm with ED DCS and future releases, then I won't have a choice.

It's coming to open beta on standalone in July, it probably won't be on steam for a month or so after that.

I have a serious question: Will the DCS Mudhen be capable of having a Wizzo? Your tutorial is nice (if simple), but you do know that your WSO handles most of this, right? I ask this because I did indeed fly the -E for 18 of my 32 year career in the USAF. My nephew flies the Raptor and has been aggravating me for the past three years to take up this game. I told him I would when the Strike Eagle became available. It's becoming available soon, so it's time to put up or shut up. Also, I'd like some input as to the 'dream' setup to play this game. Cost is not an obstacle, so hit me with the most realistic, most functional equipment. One note: My left eye is blind (lost the eye on the last mission I flew), so perhaps factor that in as well. The F-15 will be the ONLY aircraft I will utilize, so no need for a multi-use setup. I'm also qualified and I did enjoy the Warthog, so I might try that in game, but not sure. One final question: What is the level of difficulty in mapping the game controls to the actual cockpit?

Yes, it will drop with a fully functional WSO seat, the primary SME that they used to develop the module was actually a WSO.

I tried to write a lengthy reply and I accidentally lost it, so here's the real short of it.
Brands I recommend for consideration: Virpil, Winwing, Real Simulator
Brands I would avoid: Logitech, Thrustmaster
Honorable mention: VKB, but they have no products analogous to an F-15 HOTAS.
I have used products from all of these brands except Real Simulator. Avoid the Thrustmaster Warthog. It only seems good if you've never used anything from any other brand. I'll leave it at that.
I use (mostly) Virpil stuff and I'm very happy with their products. My only complaint regarding Virpil is that the Constellation Alpha joystick grip, which is not modeled after any real aircraft, has poor ergonomics for your thumb.
The closest analog to an F-15E Strike Eagle's HOTAS is probably going to be Wingwing's Hornet HOTAS. Although my Virpil CM3 throttle has better craftsmanship than my Winwing Viper throttle, I am very happy with both.
(I'm sure there are professional products offered by other companies which I don't know about, but I'm guessing they cost thousands instead of merely hundreds of dollars.)
If you were still looking for a "dream setup" for the F-15E, Winwing did just release their F-15 throttle grips which means they now have a full F-15 HOTAS bundle available.
@@Pretzulkj And VKB just announced their STECS throttle is finally going to release, which ought to be some good kit at a lower price point.
Also, shipping costs can have a big impact on different brands depending on where you live.

Talk about clunk. A/G ops seem much simpler, or at least more intuitive.
Just a comment about TWS AUTO selection: it does seem like a time saver, if you know who's who. There's no obligation to fire on 10 targets, and you could theoretically just cycle and fire on those you want. Should be faster than having to individually select, say, 3 specific targets.

The HMI on american jets is a nightmare.. why not use simple symbology and units on data. This is so far behind swedish jets like gripen.

Here’s a friendly suggestion. You have one of the most complete tutorial libraries on YT, but it’s painful to watch these video bc they are so unnecessarily long. Can you remake these in a 60 second series? I can’t listen to someone explain how a radar works for 30 minutes. Just explain how to do the core button pushes to see a target and fire each type of missile at it in tws and rws. Most of us fly ac and don’t need more than a 60 second video.
This is all still gaming. No real world applications csn be assumed to be real. Somewhere close maybe but that's not the same. We may soon see for real.
Well, don't forget that this a 40 year old radar.
