Hughes is a player that the Canucks franchise have never had before. Vancouver has never had a defenceman who was even close to how good he is and he's not even 25 yet. I just hope that when they continue to surround their young captain with some veterans they don't suddenly pull them all away, like they did to Horvat after their 2020 playoff run.

@@wuhaninstituteofvirology None of those guys played at the level Hughes does. Some, like Jovonovski have more of a physical element, but Jovo scored mostly on the rush, like a winger, and couldn't make a one-timer shot to save his life. Lumme and Salo were both good defencemen, but not at that level. Jeff Brown excelled on the offensive side of the game but brought almost zero defence on the defensive side. Lidster was a good defenceman on a bad team. I'd have chosen Babych over him, on numbers alone in the League during his career. Slegr isn't even in the top 20 all time Canucks defenceman.

I never could see EP40 as captain. He just didn’t seem thrilled about it. Frankly it’s more important that Hughes has better ties to the Team and city than Pettersson. Hughes as said several times he’d love to play with his brothers. It’s clear to me Pettersson is going to chase the money and the wins more than ties to this town.
As an aside if we can’t sign Pettersson could he be traded and to whom ? For What back?

No offense to Hughes, he'll probably be a good C but, J.T has the experience to be the better choice imo.

Miller loses his cool a bit too often. He may rub some people the wrong way.

I woulda loved JT as captain cuz he has no filter and it would be a whole lotta fun to hear what he said after each game. Wait a minute. He’s still gonna do that. Go JT!

I have a bad feeling about this... Hope not, but I think this could weigh Hughes down tremendously; mark these words if his pt totals and play diminish... all for the sake of being a "team leader"? He already leads by example, and has nothing further to prove to anyone except getting better on the ice, in his game. Why distract Quinn away from that? I don't like the gut feeling one little bit. Good luck with the decision; I hope it works out; we'll NEVER know, because we'll NEVER see how good Hughes COULD HAVE BECOME without the nonsense distraction.
The dry spell Beauvilier had came as they took him off the top line and surrounded him with lesser line mates but as was mentioned he did snap out of it even though he wasn’t used in his best spot. I frankly loved what he did on the top line and every guy they used that replaced him actually kinda sucked despite playing Pettersson ,mind you they were guys that aren’t even in the league right now.

you don't want to name a player the captain when he is ready to bolt if the team isn't successful this year. miller or hughes were the definitive choices.

seems like miller, demko and hughes are willing to stay and build a contending team. all i'm saying is, a guy who is ready to leave a team is not good captain material no matter how many points he gets. @@VanIsland69er
going back to JT the canucks sign him before they sign thr cpt BO . When they could of landed a 1st rounder in either last years draft or this years and a high drafted prospect pick and even more if done right . But now you got JT signed now for what your going to watch a steadily decline in all around pts production and teenage tantrum .
he is a point a game player, he stays healthy and he'll drop 'em with anybody. between miller and horvat it's a no brainer. you want to talk about a decline? horvat has tanked already. best decision they made was shipping him out of town. beauvillier scored more than him. raty will be in vancouver soon and they got hronek in the deal as well.@@J-Dogg-wt1hp
Hughes will be a really good captain, but Pettersson is my guy because he is the guy that could drag the team with him. I dont think Hughes can do that as a defender

Congrats Huges . But i know Petterson is looking to get out of the gong show that has happened since he has arrived to this town . And i don't blame the kid . Vancouver i cannot see being more that a mediocre team and getting a 12-18 draft pick for the next 5 years atleast . And having a JT contract that ends when . And how Treovor Linden left . To how Bruce there it is . And even how Bo Horvat was handled only shows how bad Ownership And upper management is . And Vancouver Bottom line is the next Winnipeg /Calgary franchise to have NHL players list Vancouver as a no trade place to play . Huges if you studied the Announcement video looked tired and a bit out of place looking to say the right thing . Anyway Quinn if your reading this you can request a trade too .
What qualifies you to trash this team for five years, he would laugh at your suggestion after signing for 7 years and taking the captaincy
