  • A magnificent, if slightly hilly & humid, day climbing up to Pontevedra. It was a day of many pilgrims as we all converge on one of the meeting points of the Portuguese Caminos. An epic day full of stunning scenery and lovely, friendly people ❤️ #caminoportugues #thechonkytrundlers #sendalitoral #coastalroute #caminodesantiago

Definitely appreciated this "hilly" day - certainly have to adjust my expectations of distance based on hills and mud! Warm regards to you going forward, as I will not be doing the Espiritual. Your insight has been invaluable. Thank-you - hoping this stays up for awhile so I can refer to your trip as I plan mine. Buen Camino, Michele

Yes, we’ve got no plans for taking anything down Michele, so don’t worry. I think the Spiritual is growing in popularity but not everyone has the additional time, and you have to dig with the shovel you have, as a good friend of mine always says. We’ve not tried to cut down on our end of day summaries etc. a) we want to look back ourselves and relive it all again, b) there’s always a fast forward button, and c) for those that want to there’s some details that might help someone hopefully.
Wishing you a truly Bom Camino. You will love it

I've only watched a few of your journals, but you're doing a great job and I'll definitely check more episodes - or all. There's something very moomin-like about your relaxed pace, that's very soothing. Thanks guys...

Hi Keith and Tina. I enjoyed your videos! Passed this route when doing my Camino a few months ago. Same as yours on picking the "Complementario" route, thinking it would be shorter/faster (as per the map on the wall). It was more scenic with the creek all the way, but surely not shorter at all (sort of regretted why not picking the normal/road route) as it was raining and muddy (and plus many cyclists), and getting late (my legs were sore). But I was so grateful for the Camino. Pontevedra is so beautiful, one of my favorite places during the Camino. I love the church of the Pilgrim Virgin. Thanks for posting the videos!

LOL you’ve described that section perfectly Ralph, scenic but surely not shorter 😂 Luckily no cyclists for us but we, and the other crazy souls taking it on that day, were stopping occasionally to break into a bit of Cossack dancing in the mud. Complete with heartfelt cries of “Wooooah” 😂 On the day there were times that we wished we’d taken the road walk, but now… 200% glad that we did the Complementario. A wise experienced thru-hiker friend told us that it’s the harder, much more challenging days that we will look back on and remember fondly. He’s absolutely right 👍🏼 Glad you managed to stay on your feet the whole way through. We will join you in the memories of that awesome day and watch it again too 📺

Oh I bought the same purple Camino bracelet from Manuelito. Great guy. (I think he also features in Efren's videos).
I hope you are having a great time in Santiago right now! 🐌♥️

I take the coastal route from Porto. I think I go the same way like you. I‘m also want to go maximal 15 km a day.

Oh that’s excellent. We’ve loved the slower pace, it gives so much more time to enjoy everything. We spend too much of our lives in a rush. Our advice would be to stick to the Litoral as much as possible, in our opinion it was prettier and has more cafes available if you want a break 👍🏼

Hi chonkies! I've just finished watching Efren's Portuguese Central route. He did say that when he reached Tui, that's when the number of people increased significantly, since it's the last 100+ km starting pt and it can be done in a week (if one walks ~25 km/ day). It's good for ppl who have limited time to do it. I think I saw the guy selling trinkets in Efren's vid too. He did that walk in summer, so it was much hotter & more ppl. (He preferred the littoral vs the central route). I hope you're still enjoying yourselves - I think you're delayed in posting by a few days? Glad that you're taking/ took the spiritual variant. Take care!

Hiya Kitty. We’ve got some good food action coming up soon 😉😂 Yeah, I think when you reach one of 100 km or a meeting points I guess it’s going to get crazy. It was actually really nice to feel like part of the herd ❤️

Really enjoying your videos. I will start from Porto in five days. Looks like lots of rain for us. Where did you get your ponchos? Think we might need them.

Hi Sandra. Thank you for such a lovely comment. We got our ponchos in decathlon, make sure to get the ones with sleeves. And we recommend getting a size bigger 😄 Ignore the weather and enjoy every moment. We did. Wishing you a great trip!

Hi from Scotland 😊 can l ask what make your ponchos are please looking for one the same . Booked my third camino and doing same route as you. Totally hooked on camino 😅 love your videos.

Hi @LoreeG82 👋🏼 Oh wow that will be fantastic! When do you go? We’re guessing you mean the black ponchos, not the red ones that flapped around our heads at the beginning like demented banshees? 😂 They are Decathlon own brand. They are excellent. Low cost and mighty. Simple and effective. We’d recommend getting a size up to give more space. We’ve just invested in new ponchos from Ferrino, they are the Trekker rain capes. Not had a chance to use them yet but they look and feel awesome. They’re more expensive and a little more bulky, but they are a cross between a poncho and a rain jacket. Lots of features and most importantly, have a zip up the front. So no fighting to get your head in etc. We’ll keep you posted.
We head to Prince Edward Island in Canada to walk the 700 km Isla Camino later this week 🤩😬😂 Take v v good care and wish I you best of luck and a Bom Camino from us two.

LOL yes, Combarro was a major hurdle. We were kinda dreading that for ages, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as we feared. However, we broke it by staying halfway. Doing the full trek up Combarro and then onto Armenteira would be a whole different matter 😅😂 That will be lovely. We felt bad for poor old Vigo. On the day we arrived we were dead on our feet, and when you think you’re done, only to have to climb all those steps and hills… 😣 Maybe it would be nice to spend a day there, or starting there, to give it a fair shot. Let us know how you get on there. We’re excited about PEI, the food there sounds lovely too 😋😂
