    I forgot to take a photo at the viewpont! Tried to send one at the high point with success. Stayed at a lovely place and biked much of the day with a lovely Irish lass.

    Congrats on conquering the most difficult part of this route! Well done! As beautiful as the woods were, you must have felt relief when you saw the town at the end of that trail. Beautiful sunrise & food clip too. Lol. Cheers & take care! 👍

      Wahooo!! Congratulations!!🥳🎉 It’s amazing what you and your body can achieve! ❤️ Was it as bad as you feared in the end? We thought its bark was worse than its bite. Not that it was in any way easy, but the reputation it has made us dread it more than we actually found it to be. It was one of our favourite days in the end. Ah, so pleased you made it. That’s a big step over and done. Onwards to SdC!! ❤️🐌

      Thank you ❤️ Absolutely, and we so love mountains too, annoyingly because by definition they’re going to hurt 😂 But the views and the sense of accomplishment kinda make them worthwhile. there’s a rumour the Chonky Trundlers have a mountain in their list of to-dos 😱 We’re working on the plan for the rest of the year but there will be a few bigger challenges sprinkled in for sure 😂 Thank you for the lovely supportive comment as always ❤️

    What a day, what a feat!
    I read somewhere that the steep hills and long stages are not the hardest part of the Camino. The doubt and the fear are. And once you climb over that part, you can climb over any other steep hill on the way.
    And that's exactly what you did! Congratulations from the bottom of my heart!❤🐌
    (And also, I'm preparing for del Norte in April and you just dispelled all my fears)🫠

      @ChonkyTrundlers  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh the Norte is a bit of a beast! Wow! Will you be recording it? That’s a good 10 times the elevation gain at the Portuguese. We so hope you will get good weather 🤞🏼 But as a Weather God you have a decent chance at least 😂 By the way, the cafe you suggested became our favourite place. We’ve been there several times in the last two days. You are absolutely right, a big dollop of stubbornness makes up for a lot of physical shortcomings 😂 The mental battle is usually bigger than the physical. We’re working on a number of different adventures in the coming year, and all will be more physically demanding than this one 😬😂

      I can't wait to hear about your future plans! Maybe you reveal some of them in the Q&A video. (If you havn't recorded yet, here's thought - there is a nice viewpoint of the Cathedral in Alameda Park - "Miradoiro da Catedral", maybe you record it right there, weather permitting, of course!😊)

And the cafe you recommended became our favourite haunt 👍🏼 We filmed the gear review and Q&A today and were working to get the remaining videos uploaded. LOL yes. The dreaded Combarro hill has quite the reputation. I don’t know why everyone thinks the Portuguese is flat, I know we had that impression, but it’s certainly not. Having said that, the Litoral is as flat as you’re going to get. Even the Coastal hits a fair amount of elevation. However, we totally agree, the Spiritual is sooooo worth it

    Got to Combarro by hook and crook today. Early to bed for climb tomorrow. Hedwig seems magical to me. Too bad he can't apparate you directly to A Armenteira. Hope you're enjoying excellent new adventures. Have a good thought for this hapless pilgrim heading into her second day of spiritual variant. It's amazing how many locals know nothing about this option. This morning when I got turned around, I received two exactly opposite sets of guidance.

      Ultreia Courtney!!! It’s not as bad as you might think. Not that it’s easy, but it’s doable at a Trundler’s pace 👍🏼🐌 Take a break often, even if you don’t feel the need, and keep lots of small, happy snacks handy. I think that’s where the view point is at the top, don’t miss that. If you can stay in Armenteira, do, and don’t miss the Pilgrim’s Mass!! It’s awesome. It doesn’t matter whether you are religious or not, it’s a grounding thing that connects you to the hundreds of thousands of pilgrims across the centuries.
      You’ve got this!!! A photo from the viewpoint please so we can toast your success!

    I made it to A Armenteira and just kept thinking about everything you said in your video! Also helped that the visibility was pretty low that day so I could hardly see when an ascent was coming up. I arrived in Santiago de Compostela on June 12th and absolutely loved the Variante Espiritual! Definitely want to walk it again, especially because I lost sight of the arrows getting out of Vigo so I missed out on the trail and walked along the N-552 most of the day. Splitting this climb into two days is most definitely the way to go!

Yes we started to use the water fountains, but no, we were a bit worried about it… at first 😂 However I’m happy to say we’ve had absolutely no problems at all. Not even a little bit. G'Day Keith & Tina - we have been watching your Portuguese camino travels and quite enjoy it. One questions, if I may:
    Somewhere along your travel you purchased and mentioned a new Poncho. Would you mind telling us what brand Poncho was that, how much did it cost and where/what store did you purchased it from?
    Mny thanks

    • @ChonkyTrundlers
      @ChonkyTrundlers  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Thank you. No problem, we had sleeveless ponchos at the start which didn’t work out well. Entirely our fault as they were an afterthought and we didn’t do enough testing prior to starting the Camino. However, when we got to Nigrán we found a Decathlon store and replaced them then. They are FORCLAZ Hiking Rain Ponchos and depending on the size are around €30. They have been great and can certainly recommend them. Our only tip would be to try them on and maybe get a size bigger. Gives more space for any items attached to your pack and also would cover your legs a little more. Hope that helps 👍🏼

      Hallooo! Hmmm… that’s a good question. It was one of the trickiest places to be honest. It depends very much on your budget of course. The Monastery albergue is now open, and apparently is very nice (but can get chilly). We found a place a couple of KM away on AirBnB which was very reasonably priced, but it’s a couple of KM off the route. In the end we cancelled that and decided to treat ourselves in a really great place we found on Booking.Com called “A Casa do Olivo”. It was a bit pricy but we were celebrating surviving the hill out of Combarro so splashed out on that one. The people were super helpful and it’s only a very short walk to the Monastery to see the blessing. There were some others on Booking.Com though. Hope that helps. Let us know how you get on 🤞🏼👍🏼
