I don't care how many props we give to this group of musicians, it will never be enough. I personally think that they kept humanity from losing their freakin' minds during a time when we could have easily and simply depleted our energy from negative, emotional, hate-filled intentions and thoughts. Their music was always there to restore us with love, and it still is.

I was broke, living in a van and it was hot out there. We promised ourselves we wouldn't stop until we made at least $50 each. Then this very elegant and vaguely familiar looking gentleman approaches me and says, "Dude, I was eating across the street and I made it a point to come over here to tell you you can groove your ass off.". It was a nice compliment. I say, "Thanks man it's been a rough night. Are you a drummer?". He says, "Yeah dude. I play with this little band I don't know if you heard of them.". I ask him who's that. He unzips jacket to reveal a backstage all access pass that said "Earth Wind & Fire." It was Ralph Johnson. I look at him and say, "DUUUUUDE!! You're Ralph Johnson?? Holy shit!" and I started rattling off all the EWF songs I'd ever practiced to and learned the parts to and told him how much his playing influenced me. I asked him if he could hang out for 5 minutes just to chat at him. He says, "No man. Like I say I was eating across the street and didn't really have time to come over here in the first place cos I've got a show to get to, but I wanted to make sure I came over here and tell you you've really got it going on, and I've heard a million drummers in my life.". He opens up his wallet and drops a $100 in our bucket. A truly class act. He didn't just make our night, but he inspired me to keep pushing forward and made me feel special. I will never forget.

All 'n All was the first album I ever got -- begged my mom for it. I never stopped listening! 😊 I wanted to put together an EW&F tribute band, but the only musicians I could get who were good enough do justice to the music wanted too much money 😀. Not even gonna _try_ to play EW&F without great musicians. But one of the highlights of my musical life was when I was hired to play for a private high school's year-end performance. They had _lots_ of money, so the band was big and had a great horn section. We played "In The Stone" which I had been wanting to cover for literally decades. The band sounded great (not EW&F great, but still great)! My life could've ended happily after that moment. 😀
61 and pass my love of earth wind and fire to all my 4 to 10 years old kids at school 🥰💃🕺best choreography we have together is "September " 🎉love it! Pure energy!!!!! greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
John legend is a master vocalist but when the band hit and cynthia slinked out like a black cat in the moonlight she took the night 🌙. That voice and what a tribute. A band on fire too 🔥 thank you earth wind and fire for the music.
Earth Wind and Fire is the greatest band in history!! All of their songs moves you in some way. It's impossible to listen to any of their songs and feel depressed, angry or sad.. It's impossible
One sunny Sunday, years ago, I walked past a house and heard 'That's The Way Of The World' being played by friends just chilling out. Suddenly, my spirit was refreshed and all was well in the world. God had truly touched my soul with Earth Wind and Fire's music that afternoon.
Philip Bailey, a member of the church I attended for 20 years before I moved. He would bless us from time to time with a Christian song and his heavenly falsetto. Lovely man and generous.
Man! I started tearing up. So so so many FABULOUS tunes from those men!!! The orchestration and vocals!!! Wow!!! Man!!! That was our NORMAL music when we turned on the radio!!! Real men jamming!!! No digital noises. No sampling sounds. Men. Men writing and playing music together!!! And ALL races were excited to hear those songs as we got ready for work, school, sports games, walks, dates, and simply living.
I can't believe anyone would dare to give this performance a thumbs down! I'm a classical musician but when I hear this music I want to start dancing and I don't know how to dance, but I just can' t stay still while listening to this incredible music.
@@NorthPhilly-zr7xc Cynthia and the backing musicians did well. The rest of the "front liners" I could have done without, especially John the "Legend only in his own mind" - I had to bypass that entire segment after the first 20-30 seconds.
I didnt know Cynthia Erivo, when she started singing "Reasons", my favorite EWF song, I fell in love immediately and started crying. Quarantine made me sensible.
Every time I watch one of these KCH shows, I'm always so impressed with the orchestra. They are absolutely no joke. They recreate the song just as it was meant to be played. Kudos to each member.👍💯💞
why does no one ever talk about what an amazing show Neyo always puts on. that man never fails to deliver, hes a true 360° performer. annnnd.... his look is on point 1000% of the time. Quality👌
So blessed to be a 70s baby....we grew up with some of the best music EVER!!! And you are damn right lady in the red dress, it's disrespectful to hear EWF and not get off your ass!!! Respect the elements!!!
I absolutely love Verdine, how emotionally connected he is to the music regardless if it's him on stage or not. Never once was I ever disappointed to see him perform live, you knew every night was like he first night, just magic. Bass player aside, the soul this man has transcends the norm. Zero ego, all about the wonderment of music, Verdine, you are a legend.
Verdine is an absolute funk master. Any interview I've seen him give, his good nature shines through. I think the performance of Can't Hide Love seemed to have brought him to tears. We all miss Maurice!
The Essential Elements!!! Their music was performed at the highest level by John Legend, Cynthia Eric, Ne-Yo, and the Jonas Brothers!!!!! Those background singers, and that band!!!! I was in high school-in the 70's so this music is the soundtrack of my youth....and It is timeless. I will save this video and replay it often.
I'm respecting The Jonas Brothers more now... They hold themselves gracefully for this. They did actually justice for one of the most brilliant tracks ever.
If you watch Nick Jonas video Jealous in the beginning there's a sign with the word GRATITUDE on it. Nick often says they're one of his influences. Almost missed the reference until I watched this twice. And yes grest preformance by the brothers. Grew up to Eartg Wind & Fire so enjoyed this.
@@cockerspanishgirlkiri9974 😅😅😅 Yeah, not so much... But I can appreciate the times they actually do it right... I hold no gruges against them either. They're just ok for me... But, yeah, sometimes they do a nice job, and who am I to say otherwise, right? 😉
This was one of the best Kennedy Center Honors tributes that I had the pleasure to enjoy. It felt like I was right there in the audience enjoying the music. All of the musical tributes were tops. I enjoyed everybody. Nobody will ever compare to Earth, Wind and Fire. They are just incomparable. Thank you Maurice White for your vision and sharing your musical genius with us. We love you. The music will live on. Congrats!
I'd be honored if some EWF fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performance of SEPTEMBER th-cam.com/video/94PzZCZOV0o/w-d-xo.html in tribute to Maurice White, the legendary vocalist and co-writer of the song who passed away in 2016. Live acoustic with no autotune. Peace and everybody have a great September.
I grew up in Memphis... I was privileged to live it the first time.. Motown is in my blood no matter how much of a white southern rocker I am. Thank God for AM radio back in the day.... and some early tolerance in my life
I love many musicians, but Earth Wind and Fire is still my most favorite musician. I am really honored they came to our restaurant in Japan and met them personally.
A part of American history. This band is played a huge part in making this country the leader in entertainment. I grew up listening to this music and modeled my own singing after Phillip Bailey. Not trying to reach his status but instead, using it as an inspiration. God bless you Maurice for creating a legend!
If You're not on your feet when this music is playing, you have to be dead inside. EWF wasn't just the sound of a generation. It was music to be shared for all generations. As my wife is fond of saying. When Earth, Wind & Fire are playing. "I am in my elements".

I saw earth wind and fire in Vancouver around 1980. I was kind of dragged their by my friends. I was more of a led zep girl. We had seats way up the the nose bleed section. It was hands down one of the best concerts i have ever been to! The music, the talent, the musicians and of course, throw in magic. It was perfection! Everyone was on their feet all the way up to the crappy seats the entire show! I have loved them ever since.
Thank GOD that we are able to time capsule this Fantastic Group for future generations...because there will absolutely never be another like it ever again! God Bless 'em.....!
They were in a class by themselves.
I’m 63 and I’m still listening
All 'n All was the first album I ever got -- begged my mom for it. I never stopped listening! 😊
I wanted to put together an EW&F tribute band, but the only musicians I could get who were good enough do justice to the music wanted too much money 😀.
@Denise Eugene,64 and listening too!
I SO AGREE with you!!!
I'm 63 and have liked them since 1975 when I herd their song Yearnin Learnin in English class.
Yessss ❤❤❤❤❤
Reba you are a incredible singer without a doubt. Michael Day ❤
Best John Legend has ever sounded. The quality of these songs is something else 👌
I was pleasantly surprised by his performance. It was great!
@@c.t.jackson272 same here, I'm not a fan but I thought it was great!

So true man! Impossible.
@@evertonporter7887 saw these guys in 76. Great show
So true. The songs uplift your spirit.
I don't think any r&b group is best but I think the o'jays are as good as earth wind and fire.
Imagine, a people who have gone through the racism and oppression of America, and this is what they come up with. All of my respect!
I'll always appreciate their gifts they gave to us... timeless pieces of music.
Excellent observation
@Lydia Frazier Thanks for reminding me of that song. They used to call it soul music. Oh yeah.
Absolutely... respect...please bring back respect to our ailing Nation 🇺🇲🖤💛
Cynthia’s voice is liquid gold
The most Spiritual and soul touching band ever.
Love earth wind fire music will. forever live in our hearts.
Yes there music is heavenly...and spiritual..
Philip Bailey, a member of the church I attended for 20 years before I moved. He would bless us from time to time with a Christian song and his heavenly falsetto. Lovely man and generous.
Cynthia Erivo her voice is something else.... Just beyond beautiful.
yeah it was amazing
She is a little powerhouse
Wow, she was fantastic!!
Youthful sounding.
She outperformed and outclassed all the other "singers" John Legend is such an overrated nothing and Ne Yo and the Jonas are not far behind.
Cynthia Erivo. Magnificent. A voice like caramel coated in gold dust.
She could play Mary J Blige
Yes They were🙏 the Great voice ever 👍💪🙏
she absolutely delivered, I truly love Cynthia Erivo.
Such a pleasing sound, like butter to the ears!
First time I have ever seen her or even heard of her. She’s damn amazing.
The band was tight AF!!! And the back up singers too. Magical!!! 😍👍
My fave❤❤❤
My boy was born the 21st night of September, 2012, at 6:10pm. It was a Friday. We play it for him every birthday.
Our everyday playlist turned into legend

I can't believe anyone would dare to give this performance a thumbs down! I'm a classical musician but when I hear this music I want to start dancing and I don't know how to dance, but I just can'
t stay still while listening to this incredible music.
A bunch of young kids that don't know music
@@NorthPhilly-zr7xc Cynthia and the backing musicians did well.
The rest of the "front liners" I could have done without, especially John the "Legend only in his own mind" - I had to bypass that entire segment after the first 20-30 seconds.
My fave since i was kid 🙏👍🙏
My legend group music 👍🙏
Superb musicians.
Have excelled in 40 years.
As a classical
Pianist and violinist, all I can say, these are truly gems of music!
The way she bends that note at 11:45. So subtle & musical. She is wonderful, what a voice.

This woman nailed it , I can't believe her voice, in my mind she did Earth Wind and Fire a true justice...
I had the same thought! amazing voice
EWF not easy to duplicate, she did a fantastic job! John Legend on point, Jonas Brother great job as well Neo good job!

Inesquecivel e emocionante amo eles
Yeah that's was awesome
So that WAS him.. I was like, "is that Spielberg?" That was cool.
Get over yourself.
Yeah, I got a kick out of that
I think this is John Legend's best performance ever
Please don't take offense but that's not saying much. He doesn't have a great voice nor range, he's just plain average.
Is it a reach to call September one of the greatest songs ever? Such a jam
It is right up there at the top for sure.
Nope. Not even a stretch.
Nope….fabulous!!
My birthday is the 21st of September so yeah it’s the best song ever! 😁

THE BADDEST BAND IN THE WHOLE WORLD, EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE! RIP MAURICE!
Better know it‼️🙏🏼👑
I didnt know Cynthia Erivo, when she started singing "Reasons", my favorite EWF song, I fell in love immediately and started crying. Quarantine made me sensible.
So right...She was sent down from another planet
she starred in the Color Purple on Broadway and played Harriet Tubman
I feel you
@@zachcory123 she was the best...wow could not stop listening and i missed seen Barack & Michelle there.
I got the same vibe. Her voice gives me chills, grateful I got to see her in The Color Purple 💯
Quality👌
Everyone is talking about Cynthia's voice, but can we talk about that dress for a min? Stunning!
YES, PLEASE!!! SHE WAS GORGEOUS!!!!!
I've watched this at least 20 times...when she introduces Ne-Yo, she backs up and you can clearly see it's actually pants...BEAUTIFUL!!
She looked like a goddess!!
SUPERB AFRICAN QUEEN DRESSED AS A PRETTY PRINCESS !! When she entered it was magic so so charismatic and so natural with no artifice ! 💯 %
@missA m And why not?
So blessed to be a 70s baby....we grew up with some of the best music EVER!!! And you are damn right lady in the red dress, it's disrespectful to hear EWF and not get off your ass!!! Respect the elements!!!
Yesss Mee Too great decade
Totally agree. I say this all the time...1975🥰
I have never seen such an elegant, yet sexy performance as John Legen's Can't Hide Love here. One of my favourite covers BY FAR, so perfect.
Yes, I thought it was just me John did his thing ❤❤❤
I agree. I didn't even know John could get down like that! He was amazing on this song.
Their music was so technically sound, almost every high school and college band was required to play it. Just superior music!!!
John Legend's performance was mighty smooth. EWF are a blessing to humanity.
Amen! Heaven must look like this!!!
Legend looks like Curious George.
Legend is sooo amazing and beautiful
He made me cry
I absolutely love Verdine, how emotionally connected he is to the music regardless if it's him on stage or not. Never once was I ever disappointed to see him perform live, you knew every night was like he first night, just magic. Bass player aside, the soul this man has transcends the norm. Zero ego, all about the wonderment of music, Verdine, you are a legend.
you got that right
I've had the pleasure of seeing EW&F at least a dozen times, and you're right - I simply cannot stop watching Verdine.
And he dance...everytime
Hello Thonkus.....merry Christmas 🌲
Verdine is an absolute funk master. Any interview I've seen him give, his good nature shines through. I think the performance of Can't Hide Love seemed to have brought him to tears. We all miss Maurice!
I've been a metalhead since like... forever, but earth wind and fire and also ABBA always have soft spot in my heart
Earth, wind & fire is certainly one of the greatest bands of all times. They bring us all together beyond all the differences.
Yeah, they hold together and it was a good rendition. Nick Jonas put up some pretty high noted there
Yassssssssss.........#fangurlniw😂😂😂
@@cockerspanishgirlkiri9974 😅😅😅 Yeah, not so much... But I can appreciate the times they actually do it right... I hold no gruges against them either. They're just ok for me... But, yeah, sometimes they do a nice job, and who am I to say otherwise, right? 😉

Not gonna lie. John Legend killed it.

Congrats!

This and the induction of Led Zeppelin. The Wilson sisters tribute to ‘Stairway to Heaven was unforgettable!

EWF is my official driving song. If was to stand on my feet, I'd be dead. On the outside as well, not just inside.

Cynthia Erivo is from Great Britain. She also portrays Aretha Franklin in the 2021 movie “Aretha: Genius.” Stunning voice!
This brought tears to my eyes as I recall the days of my youth when in 1976 I was blessed to see this great group along with the Emotions. Anybody remember besides Me?
