This game tickles the part of your brain that wants to solve puzzles. If you dont have it then its just not for you.
Seems like irony, but for this exact reason it attracts many engineers to play this game. Even people who do similar stuff for a living go relax and unwind doing endless megalofactories.
Kinda like Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator having large playerbase among truck drivers and professional drivers. Sometime all people want to relax is to do same thing as their job just without the stress of real life consequences.
Though i doubt that applies to office workers and bureaucrats, but then again...
