    People call me nuts when I say a Gin & Tonic with a topper of cold brew is delicious. Hopefully this can open some eyes to how wonderful a pairing all 3 are.

    Tried it today at home with a 40g Burundi espresso shot and 150ml craft tonic from Fever Tree and its fantastic! Really brought out the lime acidity in the espresso. Thanks for sharing these excellent tips!

    I find that more acidic coffees are really good with tonic. I’m a teenager, but I think that only drinking fantas and colas is a little boring, because they only have sweet taste, while coffee and tonic have a very pleasant bitter and acidic tastes. Great video!!!!! I wish I could like this twice.

    Just tried this the first time today. I can attest: do not try it with a darker roast. I had an italian roast in the grinder and tried to pull that one rather short 2:1 in 20 seconds but it still had more of a medicinal quality to it. Kind of like a negroni, but with coffee. Will try it out again with a nice fruity kenyan.

    Just last month I made myself a tonic syrup using cinchona bark extract (filtered through a 5 micron filter) and some other spices and herbs and was joking around that I didn't think it would mix well with coffee. Apparently I'm wrong and will have to try making this.

    • @GabrielHakulin

      Happens to me when I pour the espresso too quickly, doesn’t happen if I do it super slowly specially over ice

    • @tomol5785
      @tomol5785 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you can filter your espresso :) try aeropress or V60. But that is the point that cold brew is better in many ways ;)

    • @_intrepid
      @_intrepid 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This happens to me too. I think the espresso needs some time to cool down and you have to pour it very slowly over ice,

    • @ignaodd
      @ignaodd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It has to do with the particles in the coffe, they act as nucleation points for the CO2 in the tonic and makes it foam. Adding ice to tonic will also do this because the ice has a very rough surface which causes the same effect. Heat also makes CO2 to come out.
      So the best thing to do would be to have cold filtered coffe poured slowly into ice cold tonic

    Tomo mentions he uses "cold brew concentrate". Is it something different than standard cold brew? What is the recipe?

    • @EuropeanCoffeeTrip
      @EuropeanCoffeeTrip  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for the question, we should also do a video about it, right?
      So Tomo uses 170 grams of coffee to 800ml of water, grind size as for french press and keep it macerating for 12 - 24 hours.
      For drinking as black coffee, you should dilute it 1:1 to 1:3 with water. Hope it helps!

  • @Kurskayaduga
    @Kurskayaduga 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    tried coldbrew espresso (brazilian beans) and schweppes. got myself kvas. Btw. 60ml of coldbrew concentrate can be too much for 100ml of tonic. Even 30ml already take away all the sweetness of pretty sweet Schwepess indian tonic. So 60ml can be overkill.

      It should separate naturally at first due to the oily espresso. How are you pulling your espresso?

    • @rozowybrokat

      that pouring the espresso slowly over an ice cube and not pouring it directly in the tonic gives great separation, that's what works best for me

    • @Tusc9969
      @Tusc9969 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tonic water is pretty bitter, and it's known for it's distinct taste. On the other hand, soda water utilizes pressurized carbon dioxide gas. Tonic water is pretty different compared to most bubbly, carbonated waters. In addition to its distinct taste, tonic water contains calories (unlike the other types of waters).

    • @ignaodd
      @ignaodd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tonic water is sparkling water with quinine added, a very bitter extract

    Adding ice to tonic water removes all of the fizz, better use super cold tonic instead

  • @perfectbreakfast

    Is that the correct glass? Shouldn't that be a collins glass? Don't we want to give the drink a chance to hang on to the carbonation considering the heaviness of the coffee?
