Excellent sharpener in the field. I got one about 5 years ago it works great. I still add additional piece of leather to strop, a little bigger and I can attach to a tree limb.
I bought this a couple years ago. I have other sharpening systems by work sharp, but for the convenience, you can sharpen, hone, and strop all in one little thing. I’ve yet to see anything as nice as this for $35.
I like that design and I see others like using it. You don’t need to use much pressure on a diamond hone, much less than you would use for a stone or ceramic surface.
I have one of those in my top kitchen drawer and have done so for about 8 years. Those are so easy to use. For outdoor knives, cleavers and butcher knifes, the guides work great, but for kitchen slicers you need to feel for the original angle on your knife. They will be a lot slighter angled. Use a ruby red eraser to scrub off the ceramics if they get loaded up.
Thanks, I’m just learning to sharpen my knives. I know that this piece of equipment will help me immensely. Have bought plain sharpening stones and diamond plates, but could never trust that I had the right angles. Glad I watched this, cuz now I’m ordering it. Thanks
Just bought one at Menards. Sharpened three pocket knives using both stones, the ceramic rod, and strop. Wow. I heavily use but don’t abuse my knives so the edges weren’t wrecked, but I got a better than factory edge on my CRKT Pilar 3, SAK Huntsman, and CJRB Feldspar.
Hey Brother. I love my field sharpener. I bought mine at the end of 2015 and still haven't needed to get replacement parts for it. It's great for that quick touch up. Especially during hunting season.
I love the sharpener. What I do is hold the sharpener with the end on a table. The way I hold it is so that the top guide angle is 90 degrees to the table. This way you only have to be able to move the knife straight up and down. I have found this is the easiest way when I teach people how to use it. It takes the user error variable out of sharpening. You will notice the outside corners align for this method.
Man, I left my first field sharpener on an excavator at work awhile back & it was a major loss, lol. I bought a new one & plan on getting a second or possibly a 3rd to keep one in truck, one in go bag & one to just have around... I put a small ferro rod & a couple small items inside mine & put a lanyard on it with a couple knots to really help get a better grip on it when using it. That helps to give a much sturdier hold on it. Overall tho, I like it alot. I've got a ken onion belt sharpener & a Rock sharp precision sharpening system with all the diamond, ceramic & strop plates and several other sharpeners & sharpening systems but I found these past couple months, I just grab my field sharpener & it does about whatever I need to do. And does it pretty quick. Big 👍 !! Love the channel, boss... have fun with your field sharpener, lol. You'll be hitting every blade you got with it. It's good for the ol nerves...
This is huge for a backpack. I have a credit card size. Double silent diamond plate, which I carry in my wallet and works wonders. It probably gets ninety eight percent of. Maybe the edge of your sharpener. Add keep something so big at home. We have to accept that ninery eight percent of the sharpness is just fine. I used to be obsessed by 100% and I got liberated.
I have a guided knife sharpening kit I keep in the workbench for new knives but after that all I use is a plain Arkansas stone , a 10x3 for the bench and a 6x2 for my bag and camping . I still have an old carborundum stone my dad got for me in the 60's when I was in the boy scouts to sharpen my pocket knife, still have that too.
That's a nice sharpener! I have the work shop with the little abrasive bands and it works really good. I've tried and used all kinds of sharpeners. Some are disappointing. I'll have to get one of these
You absolutely can replace the ceramic rod. There is a little pin by the red rotating knob, take a small nail and push it out. That will allow you to remove the ceramic rod.
I did but I cut it out because the video was getting too long. I figured since it passed the Redneck Sharp Test with such flying colors a paper cutting test was superfluous. (My big word for the day)

I've had one for years. Bought it at a knife shop in a truck stop when I was still a driver. Great gear.

I have many sharpeners but this is my favorite, I use it for all of my knives

Excellent product. I have one in my backpack and one in my truck
I love my WorkSharp Field Sharpener. I use it for a lot of blades, and it's narrow enough to deal with recurve blades as well.
This show got me into Knives about three years ago, so I bought one and it’s been fantastic. I learned how to sharpen knives on one and I love it.
These are great. I have one that stays in my travel bag. I have used it several times. It is a great portable all in one option.

Good tip.
I got one dang near a decade ago maybe more but it’s awesome still works fine the plates broke in beautifully will need to put a new strop on soon

Great review. Love those little sharpeners. Use it on my mora when it gets dull from carving vaguely spoon shaped objects.
Been my go to Christmas present for years👍🏻
That Milwaukee looks like a perfect "Tool box beater" knife..
Just recommended this to someone yesterday in fact lol, the best to go sharpener in my opinion. Thanks for showing!

Thanks for the demonstration. This looked like a nice product. I will likely get one son now, after watching.
I was just using that!
Another good video. Thanks

I keep one in a Vanquest survival tool kit, haven't found a more versatile and compact option!
They work great

It's about time for me a new sharpener, I'll check it out 👍

Great review.
I want one!
Nice hat!
yes, it is. American Hat Makers makes some great hats. There's a discount code in the video description.
Looks good 👍.
Good review Brian, thanks for sharing YAH bless !
My pleasure!
I’ve had and used one for years! Great compact sharpener. Thanks for another great vid! 👊🏕️
Thanks 👍
why didn't you do a paper cut test at the end.
I did but I cut it out because the video was getting too long. I figured since it passed the Redneck Sharp Test with such flying colors a paper cutting test was superfluous. (My big word for the day)
Great sharpener. How do you clean the ceramic rod?
Green Scotchbrite scouring pads clean them up pretty good.
@@joecseripko7271 thanks!
do you hafe a wind charm?
You don't apply water as a lubricant to either of the diamond plates?
nope
In a survival situation you can find the right rocks in nature that will sharpen your blade to razor sharp.
What kind of axe is that?
Draw on one side til a burr. Then flip.
Yep, I know. I had been sharpening knives for literally decades before I heard anybody even mention a burr.
Chuck Norris balance tests sharpeners. :)
Chuck Norris balance tests sharpeners. 😅
Learn how to sharpen and keep a small Stone in your pocket. Problem solved.
Brian a great review video. I have had one of these for a few years. It is the only sharpener I use on a regular basis.
